  • Patent number: 4913012
Abstract: A high-precision punch and die method wherein a pair of pneumostatic bearings are mounted on a rigid frame structure in registered spaced-apart relation to each other, each bearing having a plurality of journal segments provided with a pneumostatic bearing surface and adjustably mounted on the frame structure. A segmented die is mounted on the frame structure in registered spaced-apart relation to (and preferably between) the two bearings, the die having a plurality of die segments provided with a cutting edge and adjustably mounted on the frame structure. The bearing journal segments and the die segments are adjusted, by use of a mating set-up bar, to achieve required sizing and alignment of the bearings and die. A punch is then positioned in the bearings for guided movement through the die, the punch having an integral pneumostatic bearing surface closely facing each journal-segment bearing surface and a cutting edge adapted to coact with each die-segment cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4913014
Abstract: A band-sawing machine is provided opposite to the intended workpiece location with a movable work unit comprising the saw-band and its drive mechanism. The rate of travel of said movable work unit is reduced by a hydraulic circuit provided with a device for regulating the rate of flow. In addition, the hydraulic circuit includes a valve which is capable of limiting or even of interrupting the flow of fluid. The operation of the valve is controlled by a means responsive to an increase in the resistance set up in opposition to the driving tension of the saw-band. The arrangement is such that an increase in said resistance produces a limitation of the flow rate within the hydraulic braking circuit and consequently a reduction in the rate of travel of the movable work unit.

  • Patent number: 4913015
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting soft sheetlike material, such as a fabric material, which is subject to elongation due to effect of tensile force. The apparatus has a driving device for supplying a layered severable material in an intermittent step-like manner from an upper position to a lower position. A cutting device cooperates with the layered severable material, when in a stationary vertically-suspended condition, for forming cutting lines of basic configuration therein along the elongate direction thereof, with such cutting lines being repeatedly formed following each advancing step of the material to create cutting lines which extend substantially continuously along the severable material. Devices are also provided for removing unwanted portions of the severable material so as to leave only an essential portion. The severable material includes superimposed sheets of flexible soft material and thin flexible backing, which sheets are separated and independently wound following the cutting step.

  • Patent number: 4913031
Abstract: In the case of weapon barrels which are only secured at one of their ends at the weapon housing during firing of the weapon there occurs, particularly during series firing, bending vibrations or oscillations which impair the hit probability of the fired projectiles. In order to preclude or at least dampen such bending vibrations of the weapon barrel the invention contemplates securing a vibration damping device or damper at the muzzle of the weapon barrel. This vibration damper comprises an inertia body which is resiliently connected with the weapon barrel muzzle. Also provided is a brake device which dampens the movement of the inertia body relative to the weapon barrel. The inertia body preferably comprises two ring members which are pressed by springs against two disc members which are rigidly attached to the weapon barrel muzzle. Between the weapon barrel and the ring members of the inertia body there are arranged resilient elements, such as blade or leaf springs.

  • Patent number: 4913051
Abstract: A roll which can be used in conjunction with the printing cylinder in a rotary printing press to define a nip for the running web of paper or other material which is to be provided with printed matter has a shaft which is surrounded by a deformable hollow cylindrical shell. The ends of the shell are mounted on antifriction bearings which surround the shaft, and the intermediate portions of the shell can be deformed, to conform to the outlines of adjacent portions of the printing cylinder, by inflatable plenum chambers which are installed in sleeves surrounding the shaft so that each plenum chamber bears against the shaft and urges the respective sleeve radially of the shell. Additional antifriction bearings are installed between the internal surface of the shell and the ends of the sleeves which flank a larger-diameter central portion of the shaft. The shaft has a metallic tube with a set of longitudinally extending internal reinforcing ribs.

  • Patent number: 4913052
Abstract: Ignition of a separating charge in a cavity between a flash-conducting tube and a casing of a propellant charge igniter extending below a combustible tube is brought about by the propellant gases passing through priming bores from the outside of the propellant charge igniter to be used in a breech of a cannon or like weapon. This requires a seal acting in the manner of a valve being positioned at the flash-conducting tube head and being urged towards the casing. An especially suitable sealing means in a sealing ring located in an annular groove having a cross-section shape similar to a trapezoid. In case, for example, on account of low temperatures, the pressure buildup of the propellant gases occurs more gradually, the separation of the combustible tube from the bottom piece is thereby also automatically initiated at a later point in time. Thereby, flashback in the breech zone of the cannon is avoided and ballistics are improved.

  • Patent number: 4913060
Abstract: A running gear for an electric rolling stock has coupling devices for coupling the output shafts of traction motors to the input shafts of reduction devices which are provided with electrically resistive elements so as to prevent return current from flowing therethrough. Therefore, the coupling devices possess a higher level of resistance than the grounding resistance of the grounding devices, thereby enabling any return current to be prevented from flowing through the coupling devices. Thus, the running device can be kept free from electrolytic corrosion.

  • Patent number: 4913061
Abstract: Automobiles are transported on train cars called auto racks. These auto racks are covered by galvanized steel panels that are mounted by brackets to the auto rack frame. The brackets and frame are typically formed of a metal other than galvanized steel and the interface between the two metals cause the panels to rust and crack. Applicant has solved this problem by coating the brackets with a nylon coating that prevents the panels from rusting. Brackets that are to be welded to the frame are left uncoated at their weld points but are coated elsewhere. The invention results in an auto rack panel support system that will prevent rusting of the side panels and allow them to be used for longer periods of time.
