  • Patent number: 4965988
Abstract: A tree configuration for use in combination with an exercise or racing saddle. The tree is formed by injection molding with a thermoplastic material that results in a flexible, durable, symmetrical and smooth surface entity. The flexibility of the material prevents undue stressing of the tree at points where certain extended members are attached to the main body and, the members return to their original state after usage without maintaining a permanent spread or set. The smoothness and memory characteristic of the material result in minimal damage to the leather portion of the saddle.

  • Patent number: 4965992
Abstract: A device for removing unwanted vegetation consisting of a pole with a pair of cutting members on one end and two control handles on the other end. In use, the end with the cutting members is pulled through the vegetation and as the device moves, the offending vegetation is cut off by the cutting action produced by the pulling movement. If, during the cutting, the unwanted vegetation is found to be supple and yielding, a first handle is depressed. This brings the cutting members closer together and causes the supple vegetation to be sheared off. On the other hand, if, during the cutting, the unwanted vegetation pulls out of the ground and becomes lodged in the device, a second handle is depressed. This permits the cutting members to rotate away from each other thereby releasing the unwanted vegetation from the device.

  • Patent number: 4965994
Abstract: A jet engine subassembly. The high pressure (HP) turbine includes a ball bearing assembly whose inner race is attached to the HP turbine shaft. The outer race takes radial loads through radially-extending tie rods which pass through the HP turbine nozzle vanes and are connected to the combustor's outer casing. The outer race takes axial loads through a support cone which is attached to the combustor diffurser's radially inner duct through an intermediate forward segment of the combustor inner casing. This eliminates the need for a heavy turbine frame. The ball bearing is the thrust bearing, and does not experience thermal axial growth. This allows the use of unshrouded sloped HP turbine blades.

  • Patent number: 4966001
Abstract: A fuel gas injector for a gas turbine engine employs a plurality of closely spaced parallel venturi tubes disposed in a pair of spaced-apart header plates. The venturi tubes are brazed to the header plates and the perimeters of the header plates are sealed to form a plenum into which pressurized gaseous fuel is supplied. Orifices lead from the plenum to throats of the venturi tubes thereby injecting the gaseous fuel at right angles into the high-velocity air stream existing at the the throats of the venturi tubes. High shear is imposed on the injected fuel for providing complete mixing with the air. The high air velocity in the throats of the venturi tubes avoids flashback and flameholding. The combined flow from the plurality of venturi tubes mixes downstream thereof to provide a uniform velocity and fuel-air mixture across the flow field. This flow field is suitable for use in a catalyst bed which may be disposed downstream of the venturi tubes.

  • Patent number: 4966015
Abstract: An apparatus for producing small clear ice bodies includes an evaporator (110) having freezer cells (12) open at the bottom and cooled by a refrigerant pipe (11). Interspaces between the freezer cells (12) are covered by strips (114) of insulating material. On the outside of the insulating material (114) defrosting components are arranged, formed of metal strips (17). Water is sprayed upwardly out of a trough (30) into the freezer cells by means of a spraying device (20) in the form of a bucket wheel rotatable about a horizontal shaft (29). The bucket wheel has two spaced parallel circular discs (28) with concave splash blades (27) arranged between them. The water sprayed upwardly keeps the metal strips (17) at above-freezing temperatures, so that ice layers cannot form and interconnect the small ice bodies. Splash-guard walls (33), as well as a movable splash-guard flap (32), prevent the escape of water from the apparatus. When defrosted, small ice bodies (1) fall onto an inclined grid (36).

After the setting of the width of a slab to be forged, the crankshaft is rotated to cause each of the slider-pair to reciprocate not only in the direction of width of the slab but also in the direction in parallel with the slab transportation line, whereby a slab is forged.

Abstract: This invention relates to an edging roll for rolling the flange edges (12a) of a rolling material (12), specifically to an edging roll which is adaptable commonly to rolled sections having different dimensions and is capable to roll the flange edges with the web portion of the rolling material guided. The web guide roll (10) is ring-shaped and rotatable along the outer periphery of the outer eccentric sleeve (6). When rolling material is changed according to a schedule in rolling mill operation, the inner eccentric sleeve (5) is rotated along the outer periphery of the flange roll (8) and set there, the outer eccentric sleeve (6) is rotated along the outer periphery of the inner eccentric sleeve (5) and set there. And the flange roll (8) is set at a position of rolling the flange edges, and the web guide roll (10) is at a position of restraining and guiding the web portion.

Abstract: The present invention related to a wire-rod block which forms part of a wire rolling line and which includes two roll rings, between which the wire rod is rolled, and which further includes an input drive shaft and a gearing for transmitting the drive torque of the drive shaft to the roll rings. According to the invention, the input shaft (10) drives one of the roll ring shafts directly, via a first bevel gear (13) and also an output drive shaft (12), via a gear (11). The output drive shaft, in turn, drives the shaft of the other roll ring, via a second bevel gear (14), wherein the transmission ratios of the gear (11) and the bevel gears is such that the roll rings will rotate at mutually the same peripheral speeds.

Abstract: The invention provides a method of bending a workpiece to a predetermined bending angle, in which, in a first step, the workpiece is bent to a somewhat greater bending angle and then released. Thereafter, the amount of resilient back motion occurring after the first bending operation is measured. The adjustable die bottom is readjusted such that a bending angle would result in the next bending operation which corresponds to the desired final bending angle minus the amount of resilient back motion. After the second bending operation, the workpiece is released and the legs thereof will resiliently move back to enclose the final predetermined bending angle.

  • Patent number: 4966034
Abstract: A reliable indication of temperature-compensated pressure is provided from each of the wheels of a vehicle to an operator within the vehicle. A piezoresistive transducer bridge is supplied by a constant current source in one embodiment, and by a voltage of constant amplitude in another embodiment. Voltage to the bridge is reversed on a periodic basis. The use of constant current enables compensation for temperature-induced drift in transducer bridge output. The use of constant voltage enables compensation for ambient temperature, and provides an absolute, rather than a relative indication of pressure or "flatness" within the tire. Voltage polarity reversal permits compensation of amplifier offset voltage. Energy is transmitted to an from the wheel by means of a tuned circuit which is excited by a primary coil when the vehicle's engine is running.

  • Patent number: 4966036
Abstract: In air flow rate meters having a substrate body that protrudes into the air intake tube of an internal combustion engine and has openings in which hot wires are deployed over support points, the problem arises of reducing the heat losses caused by the support points. By disposing a frame body (4) on the substrate body (1) and embedding the connection wires (23, 42) and the linking wire (32), all of which have a very small cross section and serve to electrically connect the hot wires (28, 36), the heat losses to the support points (26, 30, 34, 38) can be reduced. The air flow rate meter is suitable for measuring the mass of aspirated air in internal combustion engines.
