  • Patent number: 4966039
Abstract: An electrical force and/or deformation sensor includes a support structure constituted by a rigid plate in one face of which a recess is formed. The bottom wall of the recess is thin and is resiliently deformable under the action of a force or pressure to be measured. At least one piezoresistive sensitive element constituted by a thick-film resistor is applied to the other face of the plate in correspondence with the recess. Electrical conductor elements connected to the sensitive element or elements are also applied to this face of the plate to enable its connection to supply and processing circuits. These circuits may conveniently be produced by thick- or thin-film hybrid circuit technology on the same face of the support plate as that which carries the piezoresistive element or elements. In order to measure absolute pressure, the inlet opening of the recess may be closed by a gas-tight seal so as to define a closed cavity in the thickness of the plate, in which a vacuum is formed.

  • Patent number: 4966041
Abstract: A pair of permanent magnets adjoining each other and magnetized with opposite polarities are coupled with a movable object through a connecting shaft so that the pair of permanent magnets are aligned in a direction of displacement of the movable object. A first and a second Hall element is disposed stationary at a position opposing to the pair of permanent magnets and aligned also in the direction of displacement of the movable object with a predetermined space interval between the first and second Hall elements. When the movable object is displaced in one direction, and hence the pair of magnets are moved from a neutral position at which the boundary of the pair of magnets corresponds to the center of the interval of the first and second Hall elements, output voltages of different phases are respectively generated by the first and second Hall elements.

  • Patent number: 4966042
Abstract: A large compressor has a four throw crankshaft, four connecting rods, four crossheads, and four horizontally opposed pistons. As usual, each piston is offset from its opposing piston and this causes the usual inertia force couples (primary couples and secondary couples). The crankshaft has counterweights thereon. A parallel oppositely rotating countershaft has balance weights thereon. These rotating weights balance the two primary inertia force couples. The crank sequence and the crosshead/piston locations are such that the two secondary inertia force couples counteract each other and no other secondary balancing device is needed. Further, the same counterweights also serve to balance the four crankpins and the large ends of the four connecting rods. Thus, the whole machine has near perfect balance with no unbalanced reciprocating primaries, reciprocating secondaries, primary couples, secondary couples, or rotating unbalance.

  • Patent number: 4966074
Abstract: A reliable, fast-acting, web wrap detection system is disclosed which is particularly useful inn an offset printing press for stopping operation thereof quickly enough to prevent the web from wrapping around a blanket cylinder. The preferred detection system includes optical sensors which sense blanket cylinder surface reflectance and which stop printing press operation upon an increase in reflectance, such being indicative that the higher reflectance printing web has begun to wrap the cylinder which occurs when the web breaks.

  • Patent number: 4966076
Abstract: To permit radial removal of a cylinder, roller or similar element in a printing machine from between the side walls (1) thereof, the cylinder or roller (9) is formed with two stub shafts (8) coupled by separable half-shells (5, 6) to the ends of shaft elements (3) passing through the side wall (1) of the printing machine. One of said shaft elements can be coupled to a drive gear (4). In accordance with the invention, and to permit rolling off of the stub shaft (8) of the cylinder over the half-shell, the separating surfaces (10, 11, 12, 13) between the half-shells are formed to extend essentially tangentially with respect to the part-circular clamping surfaces (14, 15) which clamp the stub shaft to the shafts (3) passing through the side wall, one of the half-shells being secured to the shaft elements.

  • Patent number: 4966078
Abstract: Projectile steering apparatus and method employing the autogiro principle. Two rotatable blades are swung out from a longitudinal slot in a flying projectile. The blades are shaped to rotate as a result of the air stream rushing past the projectile. Steering is effected by altering the orientation of the blades with respect to the projectile in synchronism with rotation of the projectile. By varying the autogiro pattern produced by the pair of blades, it is possible to impart a force for correcting the projectile trajectory.
