  • Patent number: 4970803
Abstract: A sand layer is fluidized by a gas stream or current in a fluidized bed dryer and indirectly heated by immersed stationary heat-exchanger tubes. The sludge to be dried is continuously fed under pressure in a pumpable conditon from above onto the fluidized sand layer. The sludge is coagulated in the fluidized sand layer to form sludge lumps. Here, the sludge lumps are successively dried from the surface down to the core thereof, and the already dried layers of the sludge lumps are successively abraded by the fluidized sand, whereby the sludge lumps are entirely comminuted and the dry matter thereof is pulverized to form dust. This product dust is continuously discharged together with the exhaust-gas stream from the fluidized bed dryer and continuously separated as a product from the exhaust-gas stream. The gas stream or current freed from dust is partially recycled in a closed circuit back to the fluidized bed dryer for fluidization of the sand layer.

Abstract: An improved ammunition loading device designed for cartridges having radially extending rims, such as 0.22 calibre cartridges. The invention comprises a body having a spiral groove and a feed arrangement to drive the cartridges through the groove and into a magazine. A manual crank has an eccentric cam which operates two mechanisms alternately on each rotation of the crank. On half the rotation it operates a feed finger which inserts the next cartridge exiting the spiral groove into the magazine, and on the other half of that same rotation it advances the line of cartridges to present a fresh cartridge for insertion on the first half of the next rotation.

  • Patent number: 4970822
Abstract: This invention relates to the placement of insecticides in such a manner that precludes their contact by larger non target species and in a manner that isolates these insecticides form contact with food and other surfaces that may be contaminated by random application of insecticide products.Specifically, the invention concerns itselft with the construction of a device that allows containment of the insecticide in a manner that will deliver a lethal dose to the target insect.Additionally, the construction of the device entices crawling insects to its interior and thereby insures a more effective usage of a limited amount of insecticide concentrate. And, the invention allows for unique and stable application of premeasured amount of insecticide product in a manner that insures the stability of the insecticide and thereby lengthens the useful killing life of the insecticide product.

  • Patent number: 4970823
Abstract: A container of the kind used for supplying water and/or nutrients directly into the soil adjacent the plant comprises a bottle for holding the supply of water and a cap structure which encloses one end of the bottle. The cap structure is effective to both support the bottle upright on the soil adjacent the plant and to transfer liquid downwardly from the bottle into the soil. The cap structure includes a spike which extends from an outer, flat surface of the cap so that the spike structure can be inserted into the soil until the outer, flat surface of the cap is engaged with the upper surface of the soil. The spike and the flat surface of the cap thus hold the bottle in a stable, upright position. A wick extends through an opening in the cap. The wick has an inner end immersed in the liquid within the bottle and has an outer end which is inserted into the soil.

  • Patent number: 4970824
Abstract: An apparatus for the gripping of plants located in a container is disclosed. This apparatus comprises a pushing element, which pushes the ball of the plant upwardly from underneath, until the ball is released for a substantial part above the container. Then the ball is gripped by a number of gripping arms, movable in a horizontal direction, which transports the ball including the plant to its destination. To be able to push the ball upwards the continer comprises at location of each of the cavities for the balls a guiding channel for the pushing element. This channel has a cross-section of a star-like configuration, the number of points thereof coinciding with the number of points of the pushing element.

  • Patent number: 4970825
Abstract: A revolving door including a plurality of door leaves extending radially outwardly from a center shaft in angularly spaced positions. The door leaves are mounted in a door opening for rotation about said center shaft by upper and lower bearing means. The door also includes upper and lower collapsing mechanisms which are adapted to normally maintain the door leaves in their radial positions, but to permit pivotal movement of each door leaf about the center shaft between its normal radial position and a collapsed position in the event that the door leaf is subjected to abnormal forces. One of the upper and/or lower collapsing mechanisms has associated with it a locking assembly having an electromagnet which normally is operated to prevent the collapsing mechanism from functioning so that the door leaves can be collapsed.

  • Patent number: 4970826
Abstract: A gate opening and closing apparatus for automatically moving a gate between opened and closed positions and where the gate can be unlatched in order to permit manual opening and closing movement and easily re-latched for automatic movement thereof. The apparatus comprises a powered drive unit. The gate is moveable and, preferably rotatable about a vertical hinge axis, between a pair of opposite end positions. A drive arm forms part of the opening and closing apparatus and is driven in an arcuate path between a pair of end positions which represent a gate open position and a gate closed position. A coupling arm is normally engaged with the drive arm and may be moveable therewith between the opposite end positions represented by movement of the drive arm. A latching arm is provided for latching the coupling arm to the drive arm. A connecting mechanism connects the coupling arm to the gate to translate the movement from the drive arm and the coupling arm to the gate.

  • Patent number: 4970827
Abstract: A vehicle window regulator is provided for lifting a window and lowering the window for retraction into a window well in a vehicle door. In the best embodiment the window is supported for lifting and lowering by first, second and third flexible cables, each of which is attached at one end to a take-up mechanism mounted on the window. The first and second cables at the end opposite the take-up mechanism are mounted to an upper portion of the body of the vehicle door, and the third cable at the end opposite the take-up mechanism is mounted to a lower portion of the body of the vehicle door. For lifting the window, the take-up mechanism shortens the first and second cables and simultaneously lengthens the third cable. For lowering the window, the operation is reversed.

  • Patent number: 4970830
Abstract: An apparatus for the uniform proportioning of granular blasting agents in pneumatically operating blasting machines is disclosed in which the blasting agent supply is in a closed hopper with a blasting agent feed controlled with regard to the amount of agent fed per unit of time. A screw conveyor screw disposed in a horizontal screw conveyor tube having an entry area adjacent to the discharge area, which is in turn adjacent to a removal duct of the conveyor screw tube has substantially the same cross section diameter value of a blast-air duct. The blast-air duct forms a tee with the screw tube in the discharge area. To compensate for the pressure drop in the device during its operation, a connecting duct is provided between the blast-air duct and the closed hopper. The branching of the connecting duct to the blast-air duct lies upstream from the entrance to the screw conveyor tube.

Abstract: In bearing structures which can be converted from a rest shape to an operational shape of larger volume and have at least one flat bearing part (1) and at least one support part (2) movable with and/or detachable therefrom, the problem consists in achieving good shape retention and in particular high resistance to bending without affecting the geometrical adaptability. The solution is achieved through three features: (a) the flat bearing part (1) is essentially resistant to bending in the first normal plane (NE1) and comparatively flexible in at least a second normal plane (NE2) at an angle to the first normal plane; (b) the bearing part (1) has an at least sectionally-curved functional shape; (c) when the bearing structure is in its operational shape the support part (2) is connected in a push-resistant manner with at least one region of the bearing part (1) which extends at an angle to the first normal plane (NE1).
