  • Patent number: 5123145
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning textile fibers for use in conjunction with an opening roller to which the textile fibers are fed and around which the textile fibers are conveyed, in the form of a fiber bat, in a transport direction. The apparatus includes an arrangement for conveying the textile fibers from an inlet to a clamping point proximate the opening roller; compressing and clamping the textile fibers, in the form of a fiber bat, with a clamping force, the clamping force having a magnitude which is a function of a characteristic of the fiber bat; drawing the fiber bat from the clamping point to a takeover point on a periphery of the opening roller, the fiber bat then being subjected to centrifugal force due to rotation of the opening roller; conveying the fiber bat, under the influence of the centrifugal force, to a separating blade; and separating an area of the fiber bat having contaminants concentrated therein resulting from the centrifugal force and from the drawing of the fiber bat.

  • Patent number: 5123147
Abstract: A cover which fits over a restrain harness buckle assembly. The cover slides down over the buckle and confines the ends of cam support pins in the assembly, eliminating the need for the use of pins with heads on one end, for fasteners to hold such pins in place, and the need for machining threads or grooves on the pins to cooperate with such fasteners. Additionally, the cover provides a smooth, contoured appearance which insures that nothing protrudes from the buckle assembly which might snag clothing or scratch skin. Thus, the cover eliminates the need for extra parts, machining, and assembly while providing a neater appearance.

  • Patent number: 5123148
Abstract: A hinge pin couples a first hinge receiver mounted on a vehicle body and a second hinge receiver mounted on a door to be installed on the vehicle body. The hinge pin is removed from the vehicle body and the door to separate the vehicle body and the door from each other after the vehicle body and the door have been coated, and the removed pin engages in a hinge pin engaging member. The hinge pin is fed to a position where the vehicle body and the door are to be assembled together, and the hinge pin is removed from the hinge pin engaging member. Then, the removed hinge pin is pressed into the first and second hinge receivers which are aligned with each other, thereby coupling the vehicle body and the door to each other.

  • Patent number: 5123155
Abstract: Elongated thin strip stock is blanked to form interlocking laminas for electric motor or generator rotors or stators at successive blanking stations. At a final assembly station the laminas are stacked and pressed into interlocking relationship. In response to an operator input a predetermined number of reversals, or half turns about the stack axis of the previously stacked lamina are provided in order to compensate for nonuniform strip thickness to obtain a rotor or stator of substantially uniform height. Alternatively the thickness of the strip stock is gauged at transversely spaced points on the strip to determine cross feed thickness variation in the strip whereupon the stacked laminas are automatically provided with a number of reversals about the stack axis in response to a thickness differential that would result in a parallelism error in the stack that exceeds a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 5123162
Abstract: An automatic rivet feed apparatus which can be used as a retrofit to an existing power driven riveting tool or incorporated integrally into a riveting tool. A rivet strip holds each of the plurality of rivets at individual fixed positions on the rivet strip. Included is a rivet strip release hook which stops the rivets, as they are advanced one-by-one, at rivet pick-up point and releases each of the rivets from the rivet strip. A hand mounted on the end of a pneumatic ram grips the rivets at the rivet pick-up point. The pneumatic ram moves the rivet forward and rotates to place the rivet in alignment with the nose piece of the riveting tool. The pneumatic ram then retracts and inserts the mandrel of the rivet into the nose piece and returns to the rivet pick-up point to repeat the steps.

  • Patent number: 5123164
Abstract: The present invention eliminates the release of vapors from an adhesive which bonds an organic multilayer substrate to a ceramic layer. Posts from the organic layer are plated up sufficiently high as to enter holes in the ceramic layer, but not completely penetrate through them. The holes may then be filled with solder, which both seals the holes against the escape of adhesive vapors and makes a good electrical contact with the post. A conductive pad may then be stenciled on top of the solder plug, and the chip or other electric component mounted to the pad. The hole is preferably plated with a conductive material prior to being filled with solder, so that solder may join the plating with the post. The solder plug is formed by forming a slurry of solder with alcohol, which is squeegeed into the holes and fused under pressure. A solder paste is then stenciled over the fused soldered power and is, itself, fused using the vapor phase.

  • Patent number: 5123165
Abstract: The present invention is a method of determining the crimp height of an electrical terminal being crimped to a wire during the production crimping cycle. The method includes collecting a plurality of force and position data element pairs which are measured and sampled during the actual crimping operation. These data element pairs, representing the work curve of the operation and are analyzed to find the position of the ram when the crimping die set just disengages the terminal being crimped. The position of the ram at this point is then translated into the crimp height of the crimped connection. The analysis of the data element pairs includes a filter to remove inconsistent or extraneous data element pairs which could adversely affect the result by indicating an erroneous crimp height.

  • Patent number: 5123175
Abstract: Disclosed is a horizontal extensometer for measuring strain on specimens in cryogenic to elevated temperatures with zero frictional and activation forces. The extensometer has first and second elongate hollow arms which are adapted to pivot in relation to one another in response to the increase in length of a test specimen when a strain is applied thereto. An increase between the points of attachment on the specimen produces a corresponding decrease in length at the opposite ends of the two arms, thereby producing movement through a standard linear variable differential transformer. A connecting rod which is highly rigid in the Y-axis but readily flexible in the Z and X-axes is adapted to pass through the center of the linear variable differential transformer to a moveable core and produce a measurement of the differential. The extensometer also employs a unique clamping mechanism which substantially reduces error caused by external forces. The extensometer of the present invention has near zero hysteresis.

  • Patent number: 5123190
Abstract: A novelty drinking container device with a disappearing object, such as a photograph such that a drinking cup is separated into top and bottom portions by a convex magnifying lens, with the lens pointed in its apex direction upward toward the mouth of the cup, and the lens is situated above an air space to permit the refraction and distortion of light rays when the cup is empty, and permitting the display of a novelty object, such as a photograph housed in a round-shaped compartment at the base of the bottom section of the cup when clear fluid is introduced into the cup. The clear fluid immerses and submerges the convex magnifying lens, thereby permitting the light rays from the air space to transmit the image of the novelty photograph clearly to the user of the container.

  • Patent number: 5123193
Abstract: This invention teaches a safety device for preventing unauthorized firing of a weapon (H) of the type having a trigger (19) and mechanical firing mechanism (21) for firing the weapon. A solenoid (S) controllably actuates or deactuates upon the application of an electrical signal. A decoder (D) is mounted with the weapon for detecting a signal from an authorized user and selectively activating the solenoid upon the signal from the authorized user. Such decoder (D) is electrically connected to at least a power source (P) and to the solenoid (S). An encoder (E) creates the signal indicating that the possessor is authorized to use the weapon. A linkage (L) connects the solenoid (S) and the firing mechanism (F) for controllably enabling or disabling the weapon from being fired upon the desired activation of the solenoid.
