  • Patent number: 5159833
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining a component of the response of a reservoir to tidal forces (such as the amplitude of variation or delay time) in a hydrocarbons reservoir. That method comprises measuring a variable responsive to tidal forces within the reservoir over a measurement time period, determining a theoretical earth-tide for the reservoir over that measurement time period, and determining the component of the response to tidal forces by comparing the variable measurements and the theoretical earth-tide determinations. Examples of variables that are responsive to the tidal forces are fluid level in a borehole, pressure, and borehole stress. The measurement time period should be sufficiently long so that both a maximum and a minimum variable measurement are achieved during that time period (e.g., fourteen or twenty-four hours).

  • Patent number: 5159834
Abstract: The optoelectronic interface and refractive index display device has a light-emitting diode the light from which is fed through an optical waveguide to a sensing element. A planoconvex lens collimates the light which then passes through a regular cylindrical element to a circular cone. Total reflection occurs at the laterial conical surface thereof when the circular cone is in a gaseous atmosphere. The reflected light is fed through the regular cylindrical element, the planoconvex lens, and then through a common waveguide and receiving waveguide to a photodiode. When the circular cone is immersed wholly or partially in liquid, the light coupled into the sensing element experiences no significant total reflection. The signal generated by photodiode decreases accordingly. The planoconvex lens reduces signal loss.

  • Patent number: 5159856
Abstract: An automatic transmission line pressure control system controls line pressure in an automatic transmission equipped with a torque convertor for hydraulically coupling and uncoupling friction coupling elements of the automatic transmission. The automatic transmission line pressure control system regulates line pressure for selectively coupling and uncoupling the friction coupling elements so as to shift the automatic transmission into desired speed gears. The line pressure is forcibly dropped to a level lower than a level present before an occurrence of a manual shift-down operation when a shift-down sensor detects the occurrence of a manual shift-down. The line pressure is then raised as a speed sensor detects an increase in rotational speed transmitted the automatic transmission, thereby shifting the automatic transmission into desired speed gears.

Abstract: A portable electric cutting and scoring saw for use on laminated or veneer products is disclosed. The scoring saw is disposed in front of the cutting saw and turns in the opposite direction. The saw is designed primarily for an on-the-job cabinet maker where the use of large industrial bench saws are not feasible. The scoring saw cuts at a fixed depth and the cutting saw depth of cut can be varied by changing the blade with a different diameter. The laminate or veneer to be cut is bonded to the workpiece and the scoring saw eliminates chipping of the laminate or veneer. The scoring saw and the cutting saw lie in the same plane.

  • Patent number: 5159871
Abstract: A cylinder-piston unit including a central valve having a valve shaft, on which two spring plates with a pre-stressed restoring spring are disposed. One of the spring plates is engaged from behind by a cross-sectional enlargement of the valve shaft which has a valve closing element. The cross-sectional enlargement is formed by a collar of the valve shaft. Another cross-sectional enlargement comprises a sleeve, which is longitudinally displaceably guided on the valve shaft. On the side remote from the restoring spring, the sleeve has an enlarged inner bore, with which the enlarged inner bore complementarily fits over a snap ring that engages the valve shaft. As a result, a form-locking connection is attained between the sleeve and the valve shaft that assumes that a preassembled valve component unit will be held together even if the snap ring breaks.

Abstract: The stacking cart includes a frame having a base, sidewalls extending from the base, a rear wall adjoining the side walls and a front portion that is substantially open and unobstructed. Channels are formed in the base in criss-cross fashion permit a stack of newspapers supported on the base to be tied in place in the cart. Wheels are provided at the base to permit wheeled movement of the cart from one location to another. A stand portion is also provided at the base to permit pivoting of the cart toward the ground to unload newspapers stacked in the cart. The newspapers are unloaded through a front opening of the cart. The cart thus permits stacking of newspapers, tying of the stacked newspapers in place in the cart, movement of the stacked newspapers from one location to another, and unloading of the stacked newspapers by tilting the cart to dump the stacked newspapers out of the front of the cart. Under this arrangement, there is no need to lift or otherwise manually handle the newspapers.

  • Patent number: 5159877
Abstract: A rotor arrangement for a bagging machine includes a tooth configuration providing both uniform power requirements and well directed compaction forces for uniform distribution of compacted crop material within a storage bag. The rotor arrangement includes right lead and left lead tooth groups wherein members of each right lead and left lead tooth groups sequentially enter a slot of a stripping comb beginning with the right and left, respectively, member of the group. The right lead groups occupy the same length portion of the rotor arrangement as corresponding left lead groups, but are angularly offset whereby rightward compaction forces of one group are followed by leftward compaction forces of the other group. The right and left tooth groups may be organized according to double-helix mounting patterns upon a mounting member. The net compaction force is substantially straight away from the rotor arrangement and has substantially uniform power requirements for uniform compaction within the storage bag.
