  • Patent number: 5197150
Abstract: A cap with a movable brim and a method of construction for it is disclosed. The movable brim is fitted with a pair of ears, that engage rivets or stitches placed through an upper and lower brim, which are placed around the movable brim. The upper and lower brims are fastened together at their ends with a single row of stitches. The front of the brims is not closed, to permit removal of the movable brim. The ears contact the rivets or the stitches as the brim is extended, thereby preventing the movable brim from being removed. A method of construction using a jig to hold the brims prior to sewing is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5197151
Abstract: The overflow tube and ball valve of a conventional water tank are replaced with a collapsible tube, one end of which is located above the water outlet of the tank, and the other end of which is located above the water line in the tank and able to be compressed to allow water to flow through the tube thereby flushing the tank. The volume of water expelled from the tank is controlled by choosing an appropriate amount of compression. The compressed tube returns to its original height after flushing. In one embodiment of the invention, a handle on the exterior of the tank cover is used to compress the tube in a plunger-like motion. The handle is provided with markings corresponding to the amount of water flushed for a given vertical displacement of the handle. In another embodiment of the invention, a lever is positioned on the front wall of the tank and is able to cause rotation of a cantilever beam. At the free end of the beam is a connection to a vertical rod which is depressed by rotation of the lever.

  • Patent number: 5197163
Abstract: The nipper unit comprises a lower nipper as well as a an upper nipper and an auxiliary nipper, the latter two each being movable with respect to the lower nipper between a closed position and an open position. The auxiliary nipper is spring-loaded against its closed position. If the upper nipper is in its opened position, the auxiliary nipper is in its closed position and is used to tightly clamp a lap on a lower nipper plate while a previously combed fiber tuft is detached therefrom. When the upper nipper moves to its closed position, stop elements arranged on the upper nipper come into contact with stop surfaces arranged on the auxiliary nipper and open the auxiliary nipper so that the lap on the lower nipper plate can be advanced. The electrical circuitry (118, 120) is made on a stainless steel mandrel (10, 10a) having a TEFLON pattern (16, 16a) on its surface that allows the desired electrical circuit (30, 32, 34, 30a, 32a, 34a, 78) to be electrolytically plated upon the conductive mandrel surface. The mandrel surface is formed with projecting features in the form of depressions (24, 24a) that will form a series of dots or raised interconnection features on the termination wafers. The mandrel also has projecting posts (76) for providing electrical connection through the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5197185
Abstract: The process of the present invention allows interconnecting one conductive layer to another in a Multichip Module. The process uses bumps formed by wire bonding, or any other means of forming bumps of 0.002"-0.004" height with comparable diameter. These bumps create an opening through dielectric insulating layers, thereby allowing one conductive layer to be electrically connected to the next conductive layer.

  • Patent number: 5197186
Abstract: The present invention is a method of determining the quality of a crimped electrical connection by collecting force and displacement data during the crimping cycle and comparing that data with data that represents standard crimped connections of known high quality. Of the collected data, selected portions are related to corresponding portions of the standard data and, if a deviation exists of more than a specific amount, a reject signal is generated and displayed to the machine operator. The standard data is continually updated to account for slowly changing environmental conditions that occur over a relatively long period of operation.

  • Patent number: 5197188
Abstract: In the case of this process, the crankshaft is assembled from individual formed pieces each comprising a crank web and two journal projections. Journal parts belonging together are slid onto a joint sleeve which is plastically deformed by applying pressure, whereas the journal parts themselves are only deformed elastically, and as a result of their springback, they provide the necessary adhesion for the connection. Prior to being joined, the bearing journals and crank journals may be provided with bearing bushes of a material having better tribological properties and/or undivided roller bearings and also undivided connecting rods. Lubricating channels provided in the webs, annular spaces remaining between the sleeves and journals and longitudinal grooves provided in the former permit continuous lubrication of the bearing faces. Key teeth provided at the parts to be joined ensure accurate orientation of the parts relative to each other.

Abstract: A fluid flow control valve for use with chemical fluids where avoidance of contaminants is important, is provided. The valve has a flow control chamber divided into an analytical section and a driver section by a metallic foil membrane operating member, clamped between the peripheral rim of the chamber and the upper wall. The foil membrane is movable in response to driver fluid pressure between open and closed positions. The upper portion of the rim which engages the membrane is of relatively small surface area, and is made of a softer material than that from which the membrane and the upper wall are constructed, .about. thereby providing a very effective means of sealing the membrane periphery to the upper wall when tightly clamped. The membrane is of domed shape, and is formed in situ by deformation of a planar metal foil sealingly clamped in position within the chamber, by application of fluid pressure thereto through a port to the chamber.
