  • Patent number: 5199359
Abstract: A twin-axle rail-bogie which incorporates a steering mechanism for positively steering one or both of the axles of the rail-bogie in proportion to the rotation of the frame of a structure supported by this rail-bogie. Steering is achieved by slidably mounting one of the axle end supporting assemblies onto the chassis of the bogie so that this assembly is longitudinally slidable and thus causes the one axle having one of its ends connected thereto to pivot forwards or rearwards out of its normal transverse position relative to the transversally opposite supporting assembly which holds the other end of the one axle and then acts as a pivot. An operating arm attached to the frame near the one supporting assembly is used for moving via a linking mechanism the one supporting assembly in such a direction as to cause the one axle held by this supporting assembly to pivot in the same direction but at an angle smaller than and proportional to the frame with respect to the chassis of the bogie.

  • Patent number: 5199363
Abstract: Harmful constituents are removed from non-combustible solid waste, such as incinerator ash, by continuously feeding a mixture of the solid waste and a combustible excitation material into a reaction chamber, igniting the mix in said chamber and causing it to react in the presence of oxygen until the heat of the reaction causes the solid waste material to become a molten slag and the temperature within the chamber above the molten slag is high enough to destroy substantially all of the harmful constituents in the gaseous effluent released by the formation of the molten slag. The excess molten slag is conducted from the reaction chamber. The effluent is conducted from the reaction chamber into a second chamber where it is rapidly cooled to cause particulate material to precipitate out of the effluent. The effluent is thereafter treated to remove substantially all of the remaining particulate and harmful gases to achieve acceptable environmental quality. The thus treated effluent is released into the atmosphere.

Abstract: The invention in directed to a work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw having a housing and an air-cooled internal combustion engine mounted therein. An exhaust-gas muffler is mounted in proximity to the cylinder of the engine. A flow of cooling air for cooling the cylinder is guided transversely through the housing. In order to obtain an efficient cooling, the muffler has an L-shaped housing and is configured to define a conducting wall for guiding the cooling air flow. One leg of the L-shaped housing is disposed approximately parallel to the flow direction of the cooling air on one side of the cylinder while the other housing leg lies transversely to the flow direction thereby causing the air of the air flow to partially back up. In this way, the side of the cylinder facing away from the flow direction is cooled with the cooling air being effective down to the base of the cooling ribs of the cylinder.
