  • Patent number: RE34238
Abstract: A valve plug (22, 22a, 22b) is biased inwardly by a spring (78, 78a, 78b) to close an opening (6, 6a, 6b) in a tank. A stem (32, 32a, 32b) extends axially inwardly from the plug (22, 22a, 22b). The stem (32, 32a, 32b) has an inner portion (36, 36a, 36b) which is mechanically interlocked with an outer portion (52, 52a, 52b) to directly transmit axial forces created by the spring (78, 78a, 78b). Fusible material (66, 66a, 66b) holds the stem portions (36, 36a, 36b, 52, 52a, 52b) in an interlocking position but carries only relatively small loads. The plug (22, 22a, 22b) and stem (32, 32a, 32b) move against the force of the spring (78, 78a, 78b) to relieve pressure. At elevated temperatures, the fusible material (66, 66a, 66b) melts to allow the stem portions (36, 36a, 36b, 52, 52a, 52b) to separate and the plug (22, 22a, 22b) and outer stem portion (52, 52a, 52b) to move away from the opening (6, 6a, 6b).

  • Patent number: RE34241
Abstract: An embedded framing bit pattern in a serial bit stream is located by combining the last bit to arrive of the serial bit stream with a predetermined number of prior bits of the serial bit stream which are spaced apart by the pitch of the bits of the framing bit pattern, and this combination of the bits is tested to determine if the combination matches part of the framing bit pattern. If a match does not occur, then the bits which were combined together are changed to a bit pattern that will not result in a match when these bits (except for the eldest bit which is disregarded) is combined again with a new bit of the serial bit stream, no matter what the logic state of the new bit. In this manner all of the bits, as they arrive and are combined and tested, will eventually be changed except the bits which are part of the framing bit pattern.

  • Patent number: 5206969
Abstract: A specially designed and attached anti-wind lift airfoil also acts to reduce wiper chatter in several ways. The foil is fixed to and runs along side the blade support, bracing and stiffening it. In addition, masses molded inside the foil, plus its own mass, increase the total mass and moment of inertia of the wiper in operation, which acts to counteract the sticking effect. The foil is somewhat resilient, and is fixed to the blade support at widely spaced points, with its center section unsupported. If the blade does stick and slip in operation, undulations are thereby set up in the resilient airfoil, absorbing and damping out the energy that would otherwise show up as chatter.

  • Patent number: 5206973
Abstract: This invention, which provides a solution to the long-standing problem of motion-related rattle in torsion balances for windows, is based upon the discovery that the major source of the rattle is related to the movement of the free end of the twisted rod that is mounted within the coil of the torsion spring. A sound-deadening element of resin material is secured to the free end of the twisted rod, being positioned proximate to the extremity of the free end, and the preferred element has a maximum dimension (measured radial to the spring) that is greater than the maximum cross-sectional dimension of the twisted rod but less than the effective internal diameter of the coiled spring. The sound-deadening element eliminates the rattle by preventing contact between the free end of the rod and the spring, and it also acts as a glide to facilitate relative movement between the rod and the spring during operation of the balance.

  • Patent number: 5206981
Abstract: Apparatus for attaching and bi-directionally tensioning a porous fabric over a flexible, rectangular form support. A frame comprises a pair of rigid, parallel frame members connected by a pair of parallel cross members. The ends of the frame members contain legs that contact the form support in each corner thereof. Suction cups located on the cross members allow the form support to be attached to the frame and pulled towards the frame such that the edges of the form support flex between adjacent legs. Once the form support has been flexed, the porous fabric is wrapped over and attached to the form support at the corners and along all sides. After the porous fabric is completely attached to the form support, the frame is removed so the form support can return to its flat unflexed, rectangular dimensions. The result is that the porous fabric is bi-directionally stretched over the form support such that a uniform tension of 50 to 300 kg/lineal meter is created.

  • Patent number: 5206996
Abstract: A tool for cutting tubing or light pipe provides conventional cutting rollers and a blade in combination with a spring loaded, open jaw clamp. The open jaw permits the tool to be passed over the side of the material to be cut, while the spring compressive force automatically urges the cutting blade into the material being cut as the tool is rotated around the material in the manner of conventional tubing and pipe cutters. Thus, the need to continually adjust the cutting blade as the cut deepens is eliminated. Two basic embodiments are disclosed, one comprising a handled clamp type tool with or without foldable or extendible handles, and the other comprising a C clamp type tool. The spring loading arrangement of the cutting blade is common to both. Various versions and improvements are also disclosed, including mechanisms providing for parallel actuation of the cutting assembly, proper spacing of the cutting rollers, and maintaining the proper angular relationship between the rollers and the cutting blade.
