  • Patent number: RE34257
Abstract: A crank angle detecting system for a multicylinder engine includes a disc formed with a large number of slits to detect one-degree crank angular positions and a small number of slits to detect a predetermined piston stroke for each cylinder. Since the widths of a small number of slits are different from each other, it is possible to separately discriminate each cylinder in crank angular position on the basis of the crank angle signals obtained by a large number of slits. In the case where the detecting system is incorporated with a group-ignition system, it is possible to detect a predetermined piston stroke for each cylinder immediately after the engine is started, thus preventing the engine from erroneous ignition.

  • Patent number: 5210877
Abstract: Outerwear for bicyclists which substantially protects the rider from cuts and abrasions in the event of a fall or crash, particularly of bicycle racers. The outerwear is constructed with protective fabric panels containing abrasion and cut resistant high performance fibers or yarn, such as ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. The fibers or yarn are woven, knitted, or knit-woven with conventional man made or natural fibers or yarn so that they are evenly distributed through the protective panels. The protective panels are structural components of the garment and are sewn or otherwise attached to panels or sections of conventional textile to complete the garment. The upper outerwear defines a pair of arm openings, a waist opening, and a neck opening. Protective panels on and upper outerwear are placed to protect the shoulders, outer arms, and upper back of the wearing. The lower outerwear defines a waist opening and a pair of leg openings.

  • Patent number: 5210878
Abstract: A sleeve for the protection of the upper and lower arm of a person engaged in welding or the like includes a forearm pad providing insulation and additional comfort for the support arm of the welder. A person using the sleeve of the present invention may comfortably rest his support arm upon the material being welded without discomfort or burns from the heat absorbed due to the welding of the material, due to the forearm pad. Additionally, the sleeve may be clipped to the collar or other clothing in order to prevent slippage down the arm of the welder. The insulating material contained within the pocket of the pad is replaceable in the event of wear and tear, and the pad has a strap overlay for further securing the sleeve to the arm of the wearer. A further embodiment provides a cape for the protection of the upper chest and back of the wearer, in combination with sleeves essentially including the various features of the sleeve of the first embodiment.

  • Patent number: 5210905
Abstract: A hand grip for pivotal attachment to a surface of a body, as on a vehicle. The hand grip has a U-shaped grip body with a web joining two arms. The free end of each arm is attached on a bearing pin. The bearing pin is swingably mounted on a bearing bracket so that the grip pivots around the axis of the bearing pin with respect to the bracket. A torsion spring normally returns the grip to a position of non-use. To prevent excessive impact and resulting noise upon the return movement, a friction brake, consisting of a molding of a wear resistant viscoelastic plastic material, has a bore which receives an axial region of the bearing pin. The bore diameter is smaller than that of the bearing pin or least is of a size that permits relative movement between the molding and the bearing pin while braking the movement of the bearing pin with respect to the bracket, for slowing the return of the grip to the non-use position.

  • Patent number: 5210911
Abstract: A device for rapidly wrapping a bundle of newspapers or magazines to be recycled, consisting of a fiberboard plate having a hole with a string-receiving slit through its major surfaces, and arcuate recesses on opposite edges of the plate, each recess having a string-receiving slit. A string is looped through the hole and around an adjacent edge of the plate, and tied near one end of the string. To wrap the bundle, the other end of the string is passed around the bundle and through the hole, wedged into the corresponding slit, and then passed by each arcuate recess and wedged into each of the corresponding slits.

  • Patent number: 5210913
Abstract: An invasive line separator comprises first and second plates of translucent plastic, which are hinged together so that they fold against one another in a face-to-face configuration. The first plate has a plurality of spaced apart, parallel channels that are sized and configured to receive and engage respective sections of invasive line, so that when the lines are placed within the channels they lie beneath the planar surface of the plate. This allows the hinged second plate to be folded into abutment with and provide a cover for channels of the first plate, without constricting invasive lines placed in the channels. The first plate also contains one or more slots alongside an edge, to accommodate straps for securing the separator to an adjacent structure, such as a bed rail. With the hinged plates folded together, any sections of invasive line that have been arranged within the grooves are securely retained in the first plate by second plate.

  • Patent number: 5210919
Abstract: A tool assembly for installing and removing horizontally oriented retaining pins in a mechanical joint between a bucket tooth and a tooth adapter includes first and second lever members and first and second threaded members which are threadably connected to the respective first and second lever members. The second lever member is pivotably connected to the first member. The tool assembly is adapted to be placed over a bucket tooth having a horizontally oriented retaining pin, with the second threaded member aligning with and contacting the retaining pin. As the first threaded member is rotated, a portion of the first lever member contacts the tooth and the second threaded member contacts the pin and forces the pin into the joint, or out of the joint. Conventionally, a large drift pin and hammer are used to remove retaining pins. However, these tools are not useable on horizontally oriented retaining pins.

  • Patent number: 5210922
Abstract: Each board of a multi-board panel is gripped and registration is established by engagement with tooling of the transfer arm of an in-line machine in preparation for a routing process by which the boards are to be liberated from the panel (depaneled). The tooling supports each board and maintains registration therewith during liberation of the board from the multi-board panel and also during transfer of the liberated board to a selected one of several sites of a subsequent station via repositioning of the transfer arm. In one embodiment of the invention, registration is accomplished by inserting lengthwise-bifurcated locator pins into corresponding locator holes in the boards and expanding the bifurcated legs into locking engagement with the panel by longitudinal displacement of a tapered rod which is disposed between the legs.
