  • Patent number: 5287619
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, an MCM substrate product is manufactured in an additive process using multiple layers of a fluoropolymer composite material and copper. The copper layers are plated, and the fluoropolymer composite layers are laminated. A seeding process promotes reliable bonding between the fluoropolymer composite material and the plated copper. The use of the filled fluoropolymeric composite eliminates the need for a barrier metal layer between the insulation and the conductors. The MCM substrate device of the present invention may have multiple metal layers and multiple dielectric layers; four or five, or more, of each in a single structure would be easily achieved and is typical. The structure would include lead lines in separate mutually orthogonal planes (sometimes referred to as "x" and "y" lead lines) sandwiched between ground and power voltage planes of copper.

  • Patent number: 5287627
Abstract: An automatic plumb, level, pointing and distance measuring tool uses a visible laser diode to project a beam in any of several different modes through a beam exit window. The tool, approximately the size and shape of a tape measure, can be placed on one edge to project a tilt-compensated vertical beam. Placed on another edge 90.degree.-rotated, the tool projects through the same exit window a tilt-compensated horizontal beam. When laid on either of its larger flat sides, the tilt compensation becomes inoperative and the tool projects a beam which is fixed relative to the housing. Acoustic distance measurement is facilitated using a second component or target side device which receives both a light beam an acoustic signal simultaneously projected from the laser tool across a space to be measured. A receiver in the target side device first detects arrival of a characteristically modulated or pulsed light beam, received at a photodetector on the target side device, and then receives the acoustic signal.

Abstract: A machine for sharpening skates that can be operated by an individual through a coin-operated or credit card operated input, permits a person that wants skates sharpened to place the skate into the machine and have it automatically sharpened in a manner that is selected by the operator. The operator places a skate into a support and the machine centers and clamps the blade. The machine includes a grinding wheel that is dressed before each sharpening operation, to provide a wheel surface that gives the proper shape to the bottom surface of the ice skate blade, and after dressing, a skate held in the clamp is moved across the wheel so the bottom edge surface of the ice skate is sharpened uniformly along its operable length. The machine includes inputs so that either figure skates or hockey-style skates can be sharpened, and positive clamps that hold the blade directly during its sharpening operation.
