  • Patent number: 5303599
Abstract: The miniaturized sampler is activated by a diaphragm motor that can be screwed together by hand. The sampler uses an elastomeric collection head and typically takes a small sample each time the diaphragm motor is activated. The collection head is connected to a piston by a pin and ring arrangement that can be economically manufactured and easily serviced. Because the collection head is smaller than prior art designs, it takes less force to activate. A smaller collection head can be driven by a smaller diaphragm motor which allows overall sampler size and weight to be reduced when compared with prior art designs.

  • Patent number: 5303600
Abstract: A flexible inert gas impervious housing for the sampler which can be squeezed to an essentially flat configuration in conjunction with a close/open/close valve assembly at both ends of the flexible housing that the buoyancy can be minimized by applying a vacuum to the flexible inert gas impervious housing prior to positioning the same on the sampler array, or prior to securing to a sampler cable for lowering into a body of water is disclosed. Pressure release means are provided to optionally open the valve assemblies when a preselected pressure is reached, usually coordinated with depth of immersion, at which time the sampler flexible housing has the vacuum released and it opens and is flushed by the fluid through which it is passing. Thereafter, means are provided to close the two valve assemblies to entrap the sample, based upon a signal, and to return the sample for discharge from the sampler for further investigation.

  • Patent number: 5303602
Abstract: A tool adapted for inserting and removing pitot tubes or other sensing elements through a hot tap into a fluid conveying pipeline is mounted to the side of the hot tap. A drive tube is slidably inserted into a protective enclosing tube, with the enclosing tube being attached to the hot tap and the drive tube being attached to the sensing element. Rotation of a threaded drive shaft causes a threaded bushing connected to the drive tube to move upward and downward within the enclosing tube depending on the direction of rotation. Downward movement of the drive tube inserts the sensing element into the pipeline through the hot tap and upward movement of the drive tube removes the sensing element from the hot tap.

  • Patent number: 5303603
Abstract: An arrangement of cables, pulleys and cams has been invented which provides a simple, reliable, flexible and inexpensive method of converting rotary carousel motion in the horizontal plane into vertical motion of animals on the carousel. A cam is attached to the center pole of the carousel. The cam is positioned so as to interact with cables which are routed from the carousel animals to be given subsidiary motion (typically up-down). For up-down motion each cable is routed vertically from its animal to the overhead support structure and then along a radial passing neat the center pole and is fastened to the overhead support radially opposite the animal being moved. As the carousel, with animals and cables, rotate around the center pole the cam sequentially intercepts the cables forcing the overhead table paths to lenghten and drawing the animals upward to accomodate the cable path change.

  • Patent number: 5303604
Abstract: First and second screw threads along a feed screw permit a slide to be fed at two different speeds for a constant rotation of the feed screw. A first nut moves along the first thread. A second nut is threaded onto the outer diameter of the first nut for common translation along the first thread. Upon contacting a stop shoulder, the first nut stops translation and starts rotating with the screw. This rotation causes the second nut (and slide) to translate off the first nut and onto the second screw thread.

  • Patent number: 5303635
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a military cannon as typically unted within the turret of a military armored vehicle such as an armored tank. My invention teaches method and apparatus for the catching and entrapping the stub case typically ejected from the breech of a military cannon after firing of an ammunition round. Subsequent to entrapment of the ejected stub case, the stub case catcher is raised to a preferred elevated angle simultaneously storing potential energy within a torsion bar which upon later release, ejects the entrapped stub case from the catcher and from the vehicle. By use of my invention and an automatic ammunition loader the crew requirements of such fighting vehicles may be reduced by eliminating the need for a human loader.

  • Patent number: 5303642
Abstract: In a system for monitoring trash compactors, each monitoring unit associated with a trash compactor comprises a transducer for sensing hydraulic pressure, for generating an analog signal from the sensed pressure, and for converting the analog signal to a frequency signal, and a microprocessor. The microprocessor compares pressure signal values generated from the frequency signal over timed intervals to a specified value indicative of a compaction. The microprocessor also compares the maximum pressure signal value generated therefrom, under certain conditions, to a threshold value indicative of the trash compactor having a substantially empty compactor and to a threshold value indicative of the trash compactor having a substantially full container. Whenever a specified, plural number of substantially full compactions have been determined, a modem sends a status signal to a computer at a remote location or a facsimile message to a facsimile machine at a remote location.

  • Patent number: 5303643
Abstract: A waste container crusher particularly adapted for crushing automotive type oil filters or other structurally rigid disposables containing hazardous waste has a housing with an open bottom which is closed off by an anvil plate. The anvil plate slideably receives three equiangularly spaced posts which are secured to a roof plate at the top of the housing, above the anvil plate. Nuts on the posts support the anvil plate below the roof plate, so that the anvil plate is suspended from the roof plate by the posts. The roof plate is secured to a hydraulic cylinder which produces a 10 ton driving force for a platen guided by the posts to crush a container placed on the anvil plate below the platen. In the anvil plate, four blind bores in a rectangular pattern in the top surface intersect a central blind bore extending from the bottom surface, and a smaller central through-bore provides communication between the lower central blind bore and the top of the anvil plate.
