Abstract: Disclosed is an insulated metal door edge guard having a stainless steel body, a PVC cover, and a sheet of colored PVF. The PVC cover is coextruded completely around the metal body in strip form. Then, before the heat of the coextrusion step is lost, the PVF sheet is laminated onto one surface of the PVC cover. The combination is then roll formed into a door edge guard having a base and two legs. The ends of the legs are folded inward to form two beads. The PVC cover has two regions of decreased thickness on the interior of the beads to facilitate the roll forming of the beads.

Abstract: An accumulator type of fuel injection nozzle having an injection valve, a first electromagnet for initiating fuel injection, and a second electromagnet for controlling the lift amount of the injection valve is provided with an energizing arrangement which enables effective fuel injection control but which greatly reduces the risk of burning damage to the electromagnets. The amp-turn characteristics of the first electromagnet coil provide for a rapid start-up time wherein the peak magnetic flux is reached relatively quickly. In contrast, the amp-turn characteristics of the second electromagnet coil provide for a more gradual start-up time so that peak magnetic flux is reached more gradually. The second electromagnet coil is also adapted to achieve a relatively large magnetic flux without the need for large current supply. In operation, when the second electromagnet is energized, such energization is started before energization of the first electromagnet for a particular fuel injection cycle.

Abstract: A sports band for absorbing perspiration and for cooling the wearer is comprised of a band of elastic absorbent material, generally toroidal in shape, and is configured to be worn upon a person's head or wrist. The sports band has a slit formed upon its inner surface such that a flexible cold pack may be received thereby and disposed within the band. The sports band may alternatively be generally comprised of a comparatively inelastic material and have a strip of elastic material inserted as a portion of the band to provide the required stretchability. A layer of insulating material may optionally be formed along the inner layer of the generally toroidal band to reduce the rate of heat transfer between the wearer and the cold pack such that the sensation of cold is reduced and the useful life of the cold pack is increased.

Abstract: A cooling vest having opposed front and back panels to substantially cover a user's torso. At least one pocket (but preferably a plurality of such pockets) is provided on at least one of the panels and preferably both. The pocket has an opening to receive a cooling pack into the pocket. The pocket further has opposed inner and outer walls normally on the inside and outside, respectively, of the vest. The inner wall has a structural layer and an insulation layer of a different material than the structural layer. Preferably, there are a plurality of such pockets which together cover the majority of at least one of the panels. The insulation layer of the inner wall inhibits too rapid cooling of the user's torso which might otherwise occur from cooling by the gel packs.

Abstract: A toilet ventilation unit including a vacuum motor mounted in the wall voids surrounding the toilet that is connected to the back of the tank and utilizes the water passageway of a conventional toilet to draw odors and aromas from the toilet. A vacuum shut off valve is mounted adjacent the back of the tank and is actuated concomitantly with the rising and lowering of the water level to cut off the air flow from the toilet. An additional valve is also mounted adjacent the tank to act in opposition to the shut-off valve and provide relief from the vacuum created from the drop of the water level during flushing. A release valve is adjacent the vacuum motor to draw air from an air source alternative to the toilet, when the shut-off valve is activated.

Abstract: A urinal having a smell release function, comprising: a bowl unit including a drain trap provided at the bottom thereof; a urinal shell unit for surrounding the bowl unit with an air space being interposed between the bowl unit and the shell unit itself; and smell inlets through which the air space communicates with at least one of an interior of the bowl unit and a lower external surface of the urinal. In this urinal the air space communicates with a secondary side of the drain trap, and a fan for blowing the air within the air space towards the secondary side of the drain trap is provided in the vicinity of the drain trap.

Abstract: Stoppable flushing mechanism having an assured minimum flow of water is provided with an evacuation orifice having a sealing edge adapted to be positioned in a base of a flushing tank, and a substantially axially movable valve capable of being applied to the sealing edge. A substantially axially movable floater is affixed to the valve and adapted to maintain the valve at a distance from the sealing edge during evacuation of water. A transmission and lifting system is provided for moving the valve, and a push-button control device activates the transmission and lifting system. The transmission and lifting system includes a buoyancy chamber having a first base, with the buoyancy chamber being arranged in an upper portion of a housing in which the floater is housed and being associated with a rapid evacuation mechanism comprising at least one element activatable by the push-button control device, and at least one orifice in the first base or in a vicinity of the first base of the buoyancy chamber.

Abstract: A toilet has a pump to deliver selected quantities of water from a reservoir to a toilet bowl so as to effect a water savings. In one aspect, both the motor and pump are positioned in the reservoir to deliver water to both the rim and bowl portions. In another aspect, there are conduits connected between the basin, the rim and controls which are provided to deliver water to the rim and bowl either independently, simultaneously or in selective sequences. In alternative embodiments, a refill tube is connected to an intake conduit and the rim of the bowl to effect a water seal, a fail safe valve is connected to the supply conduit, a receptacle with a cleaning fluid and a pump is connected to the bowl and there are at least two receptacles for receiving waste.

Abstract: A shower curtain brace is provided for securing a lower portion of the shower curtain away from the shower stream when the shower curtain is extended across the shower entrance. The brace includes a bar with two ends perpendicularly oriented to a longer middle section. One end of the bar is pivotally mounted on a first wall of the shower so that the bar may move between a non-use-position in which the bar is substantially parallel and adjacent to the first shower wall, and a use-position in which the bar lies across the shower entrance approximately perpendicular to the shower walls. The distal end of the bar has a friction-reducing roller to facilitate contact and movement of the distal end against the curtain along the surface of the opposing shower wall. A clip is provided for mounting on the first shower wall above the hinge for capturing and holding the distal end of the bar when the brace is in its non-use-position.

Abstract: A waste storage and removal assembly for use with a waste chute under a sink wherein a carrier for a waste container is pivoted from positions outside and under the sink as well as raised and lowered in conjunction with a sealing member of the waste chute. The waste removal assembly is easily connected to a sink cabinet beneath the sink and is entirely accommodated therein so that no portion is visible when the waste container is stored thereunder. In an especially preferred form, the waste assembly is particularly suited for use with a chute connected to a saddle portion of a two basin sink which also has a drain control in the saddle.

Abstract: A sofa sleeper comprises a stationary wooden sofa frame and a foldable sofa bed assembly mounted to the frame which is adapted to move between a fully folded or retracted position within the frame to provide a seat when used as a sofa and an extended unfolded position when used as a bed. The foldable sofa bed assembly includes pivotally interconnected head, body, intermediate and foot frame sections each including a pair of opposed side rails to which a wire fabric or plastic sheeting material is attached. The body frame section includes a pair of opposed cross tie members which extend between the side rails and are adapted to support a plurality of transversely spaced, longitudinal extending sinuous wire springs. Preferably, a rigidity bar extends between the cross tie members to maintain the cross tie spacing.

Abstract: The invention is a pull-out bed attachment apparatus for supporting a bed spread or similar articles. e.g. luggage at night. The attachment comprises a flat, stationary base board abutting the end of the bed, usually a mattress and box spring. The base board is in connection with at least two support boards that lie perpendicular to the base board and support the base board from between the mattresses. Movable dowel rods slide through apertures in the base board and are connected to a third board-the extension board. The dowel rods slide under the mattress and the extension board is pushed flush against the base board when not in use-typically during the day. When in use, the extension board and dowel rods provide an extended platform for supporting the bed spread.

Abstract: A mobile salon station comprises a cart having two generally upright frame members which are vertically adjustable. The cart further has wheels and feet and two horizontal shelves. Two supporting rods are mounted on the frame members and support a basin having tubes received on the rods. The basin can be removed from the rods so that the salon station can be used with the basin supported on the rods for a patient in a wheelchair and can be removed and used on a bed for a bedridden patient. The basin has a convex central portion so that the patient's head can be supported thereon while the hair is being shampooed, etc. The rods are pivotally mounted so as to be swung into the plane of the upright frame members when the station is being transported.

Abstract: The present invention solves a possible contributing cause of Sudden Infant Death syndrome. A body support pad having a support portion and a pillow portion is disclosed. The support portion is connected to the pillow portion. The pillow portion provides ventilation to the infant. The pillow portion has a thin outer sheet permeable to the passage of air which keeps the head of the infant in healthy repose. The interior of the pillow is subdivided into an upper portion containing a porous foam material and a lower portion containing an air pocket. An air pump supplies air to the air pocket to thus supply air to the nose and mouth of the infant.

Abstract: A clothes steaming and drying cabinet comprising a housing defining an interior region for the clothes. Hangers and a bar are provided for suspending jackets and trousers respectively. Weighted bars tension the clothes during steaming. A sub housing houses a heating element and a fan for delivering heated air into the interior region. A boiler tank generates steam for delivery into the region. During the steaming and drying cycle, steam is delivered for a steaming period of the cycle and subsequently heated air is delivered during the drying period of the cycle. During the steaming period, heated air is intermittently delivered into the interior region simultaneously with the steam to reduce the formation of condensation on the interior of the cabinet.

Abstract: An automatic washing machine having an automatic liquid level control system including an ultrasonic transmitting and receiving arrangement. The automatic washer includes a vertical axis tub disposed within a cabinet and further having a rotatable perforate wash basket disposed within the tub for receiving a load of clothes and a quantity of washing liquid. The cabinet includes an openable lid disposed above the tub and the wash basket. A transducer is provided, mounted in the cabinet lid, for operating in a first mode as a transmitter for transmitting a sonic pulse into the wash basket. The transducer operates in a second mode as a receiver for generating an electronic signal responsive to receipt of a sonic echo pulse from the surface of the load of clothes disposed within the wash basket. The height of the load of clothes may then be determined in accordance with the elapsed time between transmission of the sonic pulse and reception of the corresponding sonic echo pulse.

This vacuum results in paint particulate being induced from the surrounding air through the garment itself into the vacuum chamber. The clip further comprises an elongate second spring portion which is attached to the front end of the second jaw portion and extends inwardly toward the first spring portion in cantilevered relation to the inner surface of the second jaw portion. Abstract: The invention relates to a clamp comprising a first C-shaped jaw having first and second limbs and an interconnecting bight portion. A second jaw is mounted pivotably to the second limb, and a releasable ratchet-and-pawl arrangement is provided for locking the second jaw relative to the first jaw in a number of degrees of closure. A finger-actuable tab is provided on the pawl for releasing the pawl from the ratchet and allowing bidirectional pivoting of the second jaw. The first limb is provided with a circular aperture and the second jaw is arranged to urge material to be clamped between the first and second jaws through the cavity, so as to increase the effectiveness of clamping. The material which has passed through the cavity also serves as a cushion. The clamp is particularly suited for use as a diaper clamp.
