  • Patent number: 5309596
Abstract: An interproximal brush for carrying on the person has an elongated one piece body member of elastomeric material forming a planar surface disposed between two leg members from which a substantially rigid boss extends for supporting a brush member. A plurality of hinges are formed in the body member at either side of the boss and the oppositely extending leg members are folded one adjacent the other and attached for slidable movement relative to one another. The planar surface is disposed transverse to the direction of relative movement of the leg members and rotates to move the brush from a position in alignment with the direction of movement of the leg members to a position forming an angle with the direction of movement of the leg members, when the leg members are moved relative to one another. The one piece body member may also be made foldable in the opposite direction to encase the brush within the leg members.

  • Patent number: 5309597
Abstract: A hand held device for sweeping cloth and other surfaces and to convey the sweepings to a self-contained dust pan. An endless flat belt rotating on two pulleys of unequal diameter supports a plurality of transverse brushes which do the sweeping and conveying. Rotation is derived from a motor contained within the larger pulley. The motor is driven by direct current batteries when the operator presses a switch in the handle. The smaller pulley resides near an opening in the housing. The brushes, one after another sweep through the opening picking up any residues on the surface being brushed and conveys them onto a flat surface which is parallel to the conveying leg of the belt. This plate cooperates with the brushes to convey the particles of residue to the center of the dust pan. Gravity traps the particles beneath the conveying plate in the dustpan until dumping is accomplished. The brushes continue on through a comb, on around the main pulley and back to the opening for another stroke.

  • Patent number: 5309604
Abstract: A clip device for holding flexible tubing in a coiled arrangement, where one end of the tubing is connected to an external device, such as an infusion pump. The clip has a bore formed through it at one end so that the clip may be slidably and permanently mounted on the flexible tubing. The clip also includes two C-shaped channels, one located at the bottom of the clip and the other along a side of the clip, that are sized to receive and frictionally engage the loops formed in the flexible tubing. The tubing is then coiled and firmly held in the coiled state by looping and engaging each loop in one of the C-shaped channels. The clip is capable of firmly holding the tubing in a coiled state, but the C-shaped channels are shaped and oriented on the clip such that when a user needs to use the flexible tubing, the user may pull on the free end of the flexible tubing whereby the loops are released from the C-shaped channels resulting in the uncoiling of the tubing.

Abstract: A buckle for vehicle safety belt systems provided with a pretensioner engaging the buckle, is prevented by a locking pawl (42) from unintentional opening at the beginning and at the end of a pretensioning stroke. By the effect of its mass inertia at the start of the pretensioning stroke an inertial body moves the locking pawl (42) into a locking position in which the release button (30) is prevented from moving in a direction relative to the base in the pretensioning direction (R). Abstract: A transformer core of non-circular cross-section, preferably rectilinear, is formed by successively wrapping individual packets of core strips around a stationary mandrel of non-circular cross-section. Each packet is wrapped by a pair of yieldably biased rollers which follow the contour of the mandrel. As the packet is being wrapped, pressure pads are extended to hold the packet against the mandrel. The pressure pads are momentarily retracted to accommodate return movement of the roller wipers to receive a subsequent packet. The ends of the packet form a joint at the top of the mandrel. The positions of successive packets can be changed to vary the location of the joint in order to form a desired joint pattern.

Abstract: One end of a belt-like fiber material is longitudinally sewn by a sewing machine using a sewing thread. The tensile strength of a bobbin thread is preferably higher than that of a needle thread. In this state, one end of the belt-like fiber material is sewn while being drawn by the bobbin thread, whereby the longitudinal length of the sewn end becomes shorter than that of the other end. As a result, the belt-like fiber material forms a circular arc with the inside surface of the arc being formed by the sewn end while the outside surface of the arc being formed by the other end. The circular arc shaped by the sewn belt-like material is then mounted on a roll shaft in such a manner that the thick face of the sewn end comes in contact with the roll shaft.

  • Patent number: 5309633
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and device for forming a wiring harness comprising a plurality of conductors with their ends either engaged to a conductor or remaining bare for later connection. The method and device results in each connector or group of bare ends of the wiring harness having a predetermined geographic position corresponding to a desired coupling position to enable the connector or group of bare ends to be engaged to equipment to be interconnected by the wiring harness. Each conductor of the final wiring harness follows a predetermined path inside the harness between its ends, such paths having common portions along which the conductors are bound together. The invention applies more particularly, although not exclusively, to the formation of wiring harnesses for connecting together numerous pieces of electric, electronic or other equipment required in automobiles, aircraft or other systems.

  • Patent number: 5309639
Abstract: A machine component has a wear surface along which excessive friction will develop unless the surface receives adequate lubrication. To provide lubrication for the wear surface in the absence of any other lubricating medium, the component is formed from powdered metal compacted to less than theoretical density so as to contain pores, and the pores hold oil. Even though the component is mechanically machined along its wear surface, the pores are nevertheless open at the wear surface to enable the entrapped oil to exude from the ring and lubricate that surface. During manufacture of the ring, the mechanical machining creates a Bielby layer at the wear surface, that is it smears the metal and closes the pores at that surface, but the Bielby layer is removed by electro-discharge machining This procedure erodes the Bielby layer with electrical arcs so that the pores at the wear surface are again exposed and open.

The guard includes side members extending downwardly from an upper surface. The side members are positioned adjacent opposite sides of the handle and the resiliency of the guard forces the inner surfaces of the side members into engagement with the engaging surface of the handle. The guard is movably along the engaging surface in response to sliding movement of the guard relative to the handle. In a further form, the guard is slidable into a permanently locked position relative to the handle, thereby preventing reuse of the scalpel and inadvertent exposure of the blade.
