  • Patent number: 5309644
Abstract: An instrument and method for measuring the invert of a sewer pipe relative to a manhole employs a horizontal bar which spans the manhole and rests upon its rim. A sight rod is slideably mounted on a sleeve fixed to the bar. The sleeve has adjustments for mounting the bar in true vertical and plumb position with a spirit level. Removably connected to the lower end of the rod is an arm which extends laterally and below the rod at its distal end. The rod is lowered until the distal end of the arm contacts the invert of the pipe. The vertical distance between the bottom of the arm at contact with the invert and the intersection of the rod with the bottom of the horizontal bar yields the desired elevation. It may be read directly off the sight rod when the rod is specially marked with corrected graduations.

  • Patent number: 5309647
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the length of fiber optic cable being deployed om a winch to an underwater environment. The cable deployment measuring apparatus of the present invention comprises a constant current generator for generating a direct current, a resistor array having a plurality of series connected resistors and a plurality of trip wires with one of the trip wires being connected across each of the resistors. The trip wires which function as short circuits are also attached to the cable at predetermined locations along the length of the cable. When the fiber optic cable is being deployed, each trip wire will break when the location at which the trip wire is positioned is unwound from the winch for deployment in the underwater environment. This, in turn, will cause flow through the resistor array with a resulting voltage drop across the array.

  • Patent number: 5309650
Abstract: A paint baking oven utilizes air flow throughout the oven to ventilate solvents and/or resins which evaporate off during the paint baking process. Air is continuously introduced through air seals located along the paint baking oven at various points. This ventilation air is directed toward the center of the paint baking oven where it is exhausted at a rate proportional to the rate at which the ventilation air is introduced into the paint baking oven. Removing the solvent and/or resin laden air from the paint baking oven results in a more desirable final finish on the component being baked.

  • Patent number: 5309654
Abstract: A new and improved combined snow pusher, ice chopper, and broom apparatus for clearing a surface includes a handle which is supported by a support and which projects upward from the top of the support at a first acute angle with respect to the support. Bristles are supported by the support, and the bristles project downward from the bottom of the support by a first distance. A panel element is supported by the support at the front of the support. The panel element is connected directly to the support, and the bottom end of the panel element projects downward past the bottom of the support by a second distance. The second distance is less than the first distance, whereby the portion of the panel element which extends below the support element protects the interface between the bristles and the support, whereby the panel element does not contact the surface to be cleared. • Patent number: 5309663
Abstract: A linear fish catching device having an elongated barrel and a coaxially disposed internal elastic spring humanely allows hooked fish to remain in the water until harvesting. Preferably the elastic tube spring extends between a pair of spaced apart guiding elements coaxially centered within the device. The device is cocked by stretching the spring tube, that functions as a linear spring. The line from the open end of the barrel is secured when a captivated stop registers with a slot defined in the barrel end. When a fish strikes, line is dislodged from the slot, freeing the stop which is thereafter drawn into the tubular barrel by contraction of the elastic spring. Alternative couplings for centering spring movement are disclosed. Each coupling comprises a cylindrical body having a penetrable eyelet and a pair of aligned relief slots that provide clearance when line is tied to the eyelet.

  • Patent number: 5309685
Abstract: A composite roof covering securement element is comprised of an elongated rubber membrane onto which a plastic batten strip is adhesively bonded. The membrane and strip have a range of flexibility which permits the same to be rolled into a coil for manual prepositioning on a roof and then unrolled to lie flat upon the roof for attachment along the perimeter. When installed the composite element resists shear loads and securely retains the overlying roof covering in place.

  • Patent number: 5309686
Abstract: A work space management system for creating work areas including two horizontal elongate tracks attached to a permanent wall with a decorative wall tile disposed therebetween and an office partition panel attached to the tracks at variably selectable positions for defining and partitioning the work areas. Overhead modular storage units and work surfaces may attach alternatively to the panels and tracks at any point and may be removed and relocated as needed. The brackets attaching the modular furniture to the track include an anti-dislodgement tang preventing disconnection of the furniture units from the track by only vertical movement.

  • Patent number: 5309688
Abstract: A penetration unit (10) for a concrete slab including a hollow housing (28) open at one end for receiving a service line or pipe (27), and provided at its other end with an enlarged opening surrounded by an annular flange (36) which enables connection of the housing (28) to formwork (37) defining the boundary the concrete slab. The housing (28) defines a hollow space (29) in which the service line or pipe terminates and may be connected to a further line or pipe such as an elbow (31). A puddle flange (32) may be located about the service line or pipe (27) and engage the housing (28). Intumescent material may be located in the hollow space surrounding the pipe or line (27).

  • Patent number: 5309689
Abstract: A framing system is disclosed which includes a frame member and a slide on cover. The frame member has an interior portion, an exterior portion, and at least one glazing pocket defined between the interior and exterior portions, the glazing pocket being configured to receive a lateral edge of a glazing panel therewithin. The cover is configured to engage the exterior portion of the frame member and has a gasket mounting means thereon configured to engage a glazing gasket for bearing against an exterior marginal edge of a glazing panel received within the glazing pocket. When a glazing gasket engages the gasket mounting means and bears against an exterior marginal edge of a glazing panel received within the glazing pocket, it exerts an outward force on the cover which biases the cover into snug engagement with the exterior portion of the frame member so as to secure the cover with respect to the frame member.

  • Patent number: 5309691
Abstract: An apparatus for joining precast concrete units. A precast concrete unit, such as a section of pipe, decking and pavement includes a plurality of spaced, longitudinally aligned tubular members. The ends of each concrete unit are flush and are bounded by rounded edges to prevent chipping. The ends of the tubular members are flush with the end of the concrete unit. When two of such units are to be joined together, a guide member is inserted in one end of each tubular member on one concrete unit while an internally threaded insert member is inserted into each end of the tubular member in a second concrete unit. The guide members and insert members have axial apertures with the aperture in the insert member being internally threaded. The two precast concrete units are brought together so that the guide member on one concrete unit enters into the ends of the tubular members containing the inserts in the second concrete unit.
