  • Patent number: 5313740
Abstract: A moulding is contacted by two end pieces of a rotatable first holding part and is scanned by a disk. For the suppression of relatively large elastic deformations of the moulding by the pressure exerted by the disk, the moulding is also contacted by a second holding part which is located opposite the first holding part, extends into two tips and is mounted so as to be rotatable. For allowing an uninterrupted scanning, the disk is provided with a radial slot which, when the surroundings of the area contacted by the second holding part are scanned, receives said second holding part. The scanning device can be used for the direct copying of the moulding, rotations of the first holding part being transmitted via bevel gears and a shaft to a fastening bearing a blank and a rotating grinding disk of the same dimension as the disk being moved analogously to said disk.

  • Patent number: 5313741
Abstract: An improved method of using an ID saw slicing machine for slicing a single crystal ingot in a direction normal to the axis of the ingot to obtain wafers, of which the improvement lies in that the cutting load which the blade of the ID saw slicing machine imposes upon the single crystal ingot is continually detected in terms of three vector elements along three mutually perpendicular directions throughout the slicing operation, and that, when the magnitude of that vector element of the cutting load which extends in the slicing direction exceeds a predetermined value, the feed rate of the ingot to the blade is decreased and, at the same time, the rotational speed of the blade is increased in accordance with a predetermined control pattern.

  • Patent number: 5313743
Abstract: Apparatus for supplying coolant to the location of contact between a workpiece and a grinding wheel in a grinding machine has one or more reciprocable and indexible carriers each of which removably or fixedly supports two or more different nozzles. This enables each carrier to maintain a selected nozzle in an optimum position for delivery of one or more streams of coolant to the location of contact. At the same time, the other nozzle or nozzles are sealed from a source of coolant so that the coolant is not wasted when a particular nozzle on the carrier is in the process of delivering an optimal quantity of coolant against a workpiece. The nozzles can be removed from their carrier or carriers individually or in groups of two or more. Alternatively, each carrier with all of the nozzles thereon can be replaced with a carrier mounting a different set of nozzles.

  • Patent number: 5313750
Abstract: The grid member is formed of sheet metal and has an inverted T-shape with a bulb at the top, a double thickness central web and oppositely disposed flanges at the bottom. To achieve controlled expansion, an extended angular lance is cut at the top of the bulb. No metal is removed at this area of maximum bending stress. Further, staggered cutouts are placed in the two thicknesses which make up the web. By staggering the cutout areas of adjacent web layers, the overall web strength is maintained. These web cutouts and the lance at the top of the bulb cooperate upon thermal expansion, causing the bottom flanges to buckle down, and the web and bulb to separate laterally and fold. The folded web configuration directed by the staggered cutout pattern will maintain longitudinal rigidity.

  • Patent number: 5313764
Abstract: A packing apparatus used for filling or/and emptying bottle cases or the like. The packing apparatus comprises an extension arm, which is adapted to have attached thereto a gripping head and which is articulated on two articulation points with the aid of steering rods defining a steering rod system which is adapted to be moved after the fashion of the bars of a parallelogram, said extension arm being adapted to be moved in an essentially horizontal direction via a cam disk. • Patent number: 5313765
Abstract: There is disclosed a capping machine head for affixing screw caps on containers, which in one embodiment has a cylindrical magnet ring in the body of the head surrounding a cap chuck driving element in a low friction bearing in the head, each having an array of permanent magnets distributed around their periphery. For certain angular relative positions of the ring and the chuck driving element, the North poles of one are face-to-face with the South poles of the other; displacement from such position causes torque on the order of ten to twenty inch pounds to be imparted to the chuck driving element. The chuck driving element rotates with the magnet ring until the resistance of a cap being threaded on the container exceeds a predetermined torque limit, after which the magnet ring rotates relative to the essentially stationary chuck driving element. The ring magnets may be in an axially misaligned position to reduce and control maximum torque value.

  • Patent number: 5313770
Abstract: A rotary weed cutter or trimmer establishes two cone shaped guard volumes about the drive shaft to prevent weeds or vines, whether cut or uncut, from wrapping around the shaft during operations. A motor-driven weed cutting machine drives a main filament spool mounted on the drive shaft. When the spool is rotated at high speed by the motor the filaments create a conventional cutting plane. An auxiliary spool is employed to create a guard zone comprising two cone shaped guard volumes coaxial with the drive shaft. The auxiliary spool is mounted on the shaft between the main spool and the frame of the machine. The hub of the auxiliary spool defines a central orifice to accommodate the shaft. An upper disk and a lower disk extend from the hub. A plurality of holes are drilled about the periphery of the disks. Cutting line or braided wire is disposed through the holes. Each of the bitter ends of the line or wire are left unanchored to provide cutting action in the vicinity of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5313777
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a spinning process and to a device for the production of a yarn. In the spinning process the fibers are conveyed to a perforated collection surface which is subjected to suction in one zone. They are brought together into a fiber accumulation on the collection surface. The fiber accumulation is drawn off from the collection surface and twisted into a yarn of predetermined twist in a twisting element which follows the collection surface in the direction of yarn draw-off. The fibers are accumulated at a suction edge constituting a collection line and are pre-twisted at said collection line.

Abstract: A bleed air control system for an aircraft gas turbine engine operates in a fuel saving mode in response to operation of the aircraft in a steady-state cruise condition (215,350) within a threshold flight envelope (202,310) during steady-state engine operation above a threshold range. During operation in the fuel saving mode, a gas turbine engine compressor bleed valve (10) is closed. The rate of bleed valve closure is determined as a function of bleed valve position (12,20) and gas generator speed (26,30) at the instant the fuel savings mode is initiated.

Abstract: In a combined gas/steam power station plant which consists essentially of a fossil-fired gas turbine group and a steam circuit, with an exhaust heat boiler (11) in between, intercooling and reheat are provided to maximize the efficiency. The gas turbine group consists of two compressors (1, 2), of two combustion chambers (7, 9) and of two turbines (8, 10). Downstream of the first compressor (1), there is an intercooler (3) and on the cool side of this is placed an evaporator (4) which is in effective connection with the intercooler. The steam quantity formed in the evaporator (4) is introduced into a turbine (6) of the steam circuit, the result of this being a first improvement in efficiency. Downstream of the first turbine (8), there is a second combustion chamber (9) in which the exhaust gases from the first turbine (8) are processed to produce hot gases for the second turbine (10) .

Abstract: In the case of a gas turbine, containing a turbine (10) and a compressor (11), it is intendeda) to increase the efficiency of the individual components (10, 11),b) to reduce the undesired exhaust gases, i.e. NOx formation.Means (21) of generating cooling air of higher quality are used. In particular, cooling air of higher quality can be generated by a booster (21) which contains a booster compressor (23) and a booster turbine (22). A further increase in efficiency is achieved by a heat exchangers (29, 30) on the booster (21). The booster turbine (21) is driven by the fuel and the booster compressor (23) compresses the compressed air generated in the compressor (12) to form the cooling air of higher quality. The advantage of this plant is the utilization of previously unused energy of natural gas.
