Patent number: 5321879Abstract: A method and apparatus for carrying out the method in which a clamp made from a flat blank is plastically deformed into circular shape, is locked in its closed condition, is transferred from the deformation station to a transfer station where it is placed over the object to be fastened and is thereafter tightened onto the object. In order to maintain the clamp in predetermined position on the object before being tightened, the clamp is additionally plastically deformed into a slightly non-circular shape differing from the circular shape of the object and is again elastically deformed into its original circular shape before being placed over the object so that return of the clamp to its slightly non-circular configuration will provide sufficient frictional engagement to hold the clamp in predetermined position.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1988Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Hans Oetiker AG Maschinen- und ApparatefabrikInventor: Hans Oetiker

Patent number: 5321919Abstract: A twisted stem internal abrading tool having molded axially curved swept back filaments is formed from a twisted stem internal finishing tool having strips of abrasive containing plastic arrayed in a radial pattern about a twisted tool stem. The filament end of the tool is inserted into an undersized mold cavity thereby forcing the filaments into an axially curved swept back configuration. With the filament end of the tool fully inserted into the mold, the mold is heated and quenched to permanently fix the filaments in an axially curved bent back configuration producing an abrading tool in which the lengths of the abrasive filaments are positioned for contact with internal surfaces, maximizing the amount of abrasive material put in contact with the work surfaces and increasing the abrading efficiency of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1991Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Jason, Inc.Inventors: Alfred F. Patent number: 5321920Abstract: An improved gutter screen, and the combination of such a screen with a roof and gutter upon which it is mounted, in which the screen is of flexible, open-mesh construction, having spaced, flow-directing ribs extending in directions parallel with the slope of the roof and transverse flow-interrupting bars extending between the ribs. Together the flow-directing ribs and the flow-interrupting bars define a multiplicity of small, generally rectangular apertures, with the ribs being of a height substantially greater than that of the bars. The screen includes on its underside an underrib, parallel to the bars and the length of the gutter, to break up the surface tension of water flowing along the underside and direct the water into the gutter.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Inventor: Gerald M. Patent number: 5321922Abstract: A steel cable eyelet construction for a looped steel cable end is protected against corrosion by a tubular member of synthetic material that extends all the way around the loop and partially into the ground when the steel cable end is formed as an anchor that is cemented into the ground. The synthetic material tubular member in turn is protected against mechanical wear and tear by a tubular metal jacket such as a stainless steel jacket. This construction is especially suitable for anchors that are used to secure protection nettings against falling rocks and avalanches. Providing the corrosion protection and the mechanical wear and tear resistance by different elements assures a prolonged serviceability of such steel cable eyelets forming anchors cemented into the ground.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Fatzer AGInventors: Xaver Popp, Theo Loepfe

Patent number: 5321923Abstract: An antivibration actuator which alleviates vibration applied to a machinery or a building accommodating the machinery to protect the machinery and building from earthquake or other external perturbing vibration. A signal from a sensor disposed on a vibrated body can be inputted thereto through a control device and a waveform opposite to that of a vibration transmitted to the vibrated body is generated in order to reduce the vibration transmitted to the vibrated body. In particular, it is so constructed that it includes a coil member including a holding plate and flat coils disposed on a front and a rear surface of the holding plate and secured to a fixed member disposed independently from the vibrated body; a movable member including a pair yokes and a plurality of permanent magnets disposed on said yokes opposite to the flat coils through magnetic air gaps and magnetized in a thickness direction so that opposite poles appear alternately in a longitudinal direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Hitachi Metals, Ltd.Inventor: Koichi Oda

Patent number: 5321924Abstract: A wall assembly includes a wall frame which is made from a U-shaped support channel in which one end of a wall stud may be releasably engaged by a ratchet engagement formed between the channel and the stud. The ratchet engagement is defined by ratchet teeth provided on the side walls of the channel and splines provided on the sides of the wall stud which splines are shaped to releasably engage the grooves between adjacent teeth. In addition, a door unit is used in the wall assembly which includes a peripheral pocket around the side jambs and top header of the door unit to allow the wallboard to be inserted into this pocket. Fasteners can then be used to secure the wallboard to the flange which defines the peripheral pocket such that the wallboard is connected directly to the door unit, thus obviating the need for side studs secured to the side jambs of the door unit.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Inventor: Robert A. Patent number: 5321925Abstract: A multistory building comprising a plurality of units which are disposed connectedly and side by side and stand along a horizontal standard line, is disclosed. The units comprise two groups, wherein one of the two groups is tilted in one direction and the other of the two groups is tilted in the opposite direction so that the moments according to the weights of the two groups of units cancel each other.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Shimizu Construction Co, Ltd.Inventors: Yoshio Kaneko, Shigeru Akiyama

Patent number: 5321926Abstract: A novel insulated cementitious building block is disclosed. This block has a substantially larger inside section or segment than the outside section or segment. Positioned between these two sections is a middle portion which houses the insulating material. The middle portion has a sinuous configuration thus holding more insulating material than a linear configuration. Griping holes which are compatible with conventional building blocks are provided which can act as conduits for electrical wires or the like. Also, these holes can later be filled with additional insulation to substantially enhance the insulating properties of the block.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Inventor: Francis A. Patent number: 5321927Abstract: A mid-roof anchoring system includes a series of anchoring channels secured to the roof structure along a line midway between the eave and the ridge of the roof. Metal roof panels installed over the substructure are permitted to float laterally on the roof, except where they are attached to the anchoring channels. As a result, the roof panels expand or contract in both directions away from the midway line. This approach minimizes thermally induced movement the upper and lower edges of the roof, and minimizes reaction forces at the anchor.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Butler Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Norman A.
