  • Patent number: 5345632
Abstract: A medical examination table comprises a pedestal to which an end of a rocker is hinged. An underframe is fixed rotationally to the other end of the rocker. By acting on the two axes of rotation, the table may enable motions that are as different as a simple raising motion and tilting motions of various amplitudes in one direction or another. The advantage of the invention is that it provides a simplification of the industrial-scale manufacturing of tables with or without a rocker.

  • Patent number: 5345637
Abstract: A wash system is provided having a rotatable wash basket for receiving fabric items disposed within an imperforate wash tub. A quantity of wash liquid is initially applied to the fabric items while the fabric items are tumbled within the wash basket until the fabric items are saturated with wash liquid and have had a chance to roll-up. The washing liquid is then extracted from the fabric items and the extracted wash liquid is stored for later use in a holding tank. A portion of the stored wash liquid is reintroduced from the holding tank to a mixing tank and mixed with detergent to form a wash liquor having a detergent concentration within a predetermined range. This wash liquor is then continuously passed through the fabric items while the wash basket rotates at a speed to maintain the fabric items against a peripheral wall of the wash basket.

  • Patent number: 5345642
Abstract: A hand tool for removing adhesive material, such as ceramics, from cylindrical containers and/or scraping such containers clean of residual adhesive material, thereby salvaging such material and reducing the labor and material costs of construction work, includes a handle and two different sized blade members of semicylindrical shape. The dual size feature makes the tool suitable for a range of container sizes, especially one gallon and one quart containers. The absence of a bottom surface connected to the blade members enhances the efficiency of the tool. By one or two simple hand rotations of the tool while the appropriate blade member is inside the container, virtually all of the adhesive material can be removed. The length of the blade members, their placement with respect to one another and the placement of an angulated rod connecting the blade members to the handle make use of the tool simple and effective.

A plurality of arcuate magnetic elements are retained against an outer surface of the rotor by a cylindrical shell such that each magnet is disposed between a pair of the ribs. A hardenable adhesive is interposed between the outer surface of the core and the magnets and cooperates with the ribs and magnets to prevent rotational slippage of the magnets relative to the core during rotation of the rotor. Various embodiments utilize different techniques for retaining the components in assembled relation.

  • Patent number: 5345671
Abstract: The present invention includes a sensing edge for controlling movement of a door by actuation of a device upon force being applied to the sensing edge. The sensing edge includes a base member for being secured to the leading edge of a door and a sheath having a plurality of internal cavities extending therethrough for receiving a switch comprising two electrical contacts. The sensing edge assists in providing a failsafe feature for detecting electrical problems (such as open circuits) in the electrical contacts. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the failsafe feature is achieved using an electrical connector, positioned within the sheath, which electrically connects the electrical contacts. A method of making the sensing edge includes coextrusion of the base member and sheath. During the coextrusion process, electrical contacts are positioned within and bonded to the sheath.

Abstract: Manufacture of brake drums having an annular brake ring and a drum back for mounting the ring for rotation about an axis defined at least in part by one or more openings in the back. Radial runout of the brake ring is measured, and the mounting openings in the drum back are located at a position to substantially cancel the first harmonic of measured radial runout. The radially inwardly directed braking surface of the drum ring is then finish-machined on a cylinder of revolution coaxial with the drum back mounting openings so as to provide a brake ring of substantially uniform thickness and weight distribution about the axis of rotation defined by the drum back mounting openings.

  • Patent number: 5345675
Abstract: A pair of second cameras mounted on a robot are located in front of, and symmetrically with respect to the center of a wheel hub of a vehicle, according to approximate coordinates of the center of the wheel hub calculated from an image of the wheel hub taken by a first camera. Revised coordinates of the center of the wheel hub, a rotational displacement from a standard rotational position of the wheel hub, and a turning angle of the wheel hub toward the right or left with respect to a progressive direction of the vehicle are calculated from the images obtained by the second cameras. A wheel is then automatically mounted to the wheel hub by the robot, according to the results of calculation.

  • Patent number: 5345677
Abstract: A method for connecting sections of metal conduits extending on opposite sides of a concrete floor in a multi-story building in which the floor is formed by pouring concrete over a form. The method comprises positioning a first section of metal conduit on the form with a first open end against the form and a second open end extending above a height of the concrete to be poured over the form. A removable ring is fitted about the first open end of the first conduit section abutting the form to create an open space circumscribing the first end after pouring of the concrete. A relatively rigid cover is positioned over the second end of the conduit section. A fastener is inserted through the cover and into the form and tightened to compress and hold the conduit section in a fixed position on the form. Concrete is poured onto the form and allowed to harden about the first conduit section. Afterward, the fastener and form are removed to expose the ends of the conduit section.

  • Patent number: 5345678
Abstract: A method of assembling window and glass-door casements. The casements are a rectangular frame with four profiled U-shaped and mitered channel sections joined at the corners by flat right angled fasteners. The sections have a slot shaped cavity along and in the bottom channel wall. The flat corner fasteners have two legs, each with a cross-section corresponding to the slot. The inner edges of both legs are notched and the legs of a fastener are inserted into the open ends of the slots at the ends of adjacent sections, and the sections then moved into abutment with one another over the fastener legs. The frame is placed into a press tool which includes, (preferably for each frame corner), a fixed part with two sides at right angles, and a movable part also with two sides at right angles. The latter sides have projections that correlate to the notches in the fastener legs. The movable part of the tool can be moved towards and away from the associated fixed part.

  • Patent number: 5345682
Abstract: A tube cutter mechanism supports an arm from which a tube supporting anvil extends, the anvil being aligned with the tube cutter mechanism for cutting the supoorted tube. During cutting, an axial force is imposed on the tube and anvil. The arm is formed such that it bends in response to the force, storing energy such that rotation of the tube occurs for more than one revolution of the tube without advancing the cutter wheel. The device is formed of molded glass fiber reinforce nylon, preferably ZYTEL. In a second embodiment, the arm does not bend and the anvil is constructed so as to bend relative to the arm in response to the axial cutting force permitting rotation of the tube during cutting beyond a single revolution without advancing the cutter wheel. The anvil advantageously does not have a cutter wheel for burnishing the tube to remove oxides during cutting.
