  • Patent number: 5363543
Abstract: Two bushings are aligned coaxially with a bore in a part in preparation for installation concentrically in the two ends of the bore with an interference fit, using an elongated mandrel which is maintained coaxially on the bore centerline by a guide inserted in one end of the bore while the bushing is pressed into the other end of the bore. The force to press the bushings into the bore is exerted by a pulling tool to which the mandrel is coupled, and that force is transmitted through the mandrel to the bushing by way of a collar attached to the mandrel. The force of the pulling tool exerted on the mandrel is reacted through an anvil attached to the barrel of the pulling tool and effectively in contact with the side of the part opposite to which the bushing is being pressed into the bore. The faces of the collar and the anvil are machined flat and perpendicular to the axis of the mandrel so that the squeezing force exerted between them on the bushing and the part is parallel to the axis of the bore.

  • Patent number: 5363560
Abstract: In the thin set laying of stone or ceramic tile, tiles are set by floating them over a uniformly applied screed of adhesive applied to a level substrate. In this invention combination spacing/levelling devices are used to equally space the corners of adjacent tiles and to maintain them at an equal elevation over the adhesive and substrate. The spacer/leveller device may comprise spacing fins and a guide for maintaining the corner of adjacent tiles flush while mortar is setting. The device works as a guide to facilitate level installation with uniform grout joints and it becomes part of the permanent fabric of the installation. Tiles are temporally supported by spacer/levellers at each corner (while adhesive is drying) and by virtue of the spacer/leveller design they are automatically flush to each other with equal joint spaces separating them. The invention substantially reduces the dependence on the skill of the tile layer to space tiles equally and set them on the same horizontal plane.

Abstract: A workpiece holding system includes a connector for mounting a workpiece-holding pallet or upper plate to a workstation with the high degree of accuracy that is necessary for workpiece machining operations. The upper plate connects to the workstation via a pair oppositely directed, extendable/retractable connectors aligned along an axis of connection, with a total of four connectors and two spaced axes of connection. Each connector includes a pin, an actuating knob and a wrap spring. For each connector, extension and retraction along the respective axis occurs by rotation of the actuating knob. The wrap spring interconnects the actuating knob to the pin in a slippable manner. The wrap spring acts as a torque limiting device during rotation of the knob to extend the pin into engagement with the upper plate, and it acts as a clutch during rotation of the knob to retract the pin from engagement with the pallet.

  • Patent number: 5363564
Abstract: The positions of horizontal lines on a layout cylinder of a printing plate mounting and proofing machine are located with automatic compensation for stretch that results from various parameters such as the diameter of a printing cylinder on which the layout will be used, and the thicknesses of the printing plates and printing plate backing. A display of the circumferential displacement of the layout cylinder, as the cylinder is rotated, provides the displacement with the necessary compensation for stretch, rather than the actual cylinder displacement.

  • Patent number: 5363567
Abstract: The self incinerating oven has a housing provided with opposed radiant walls which define an oven cavity. Each radiant wall is heated by heated air from a combustion chamber. Polluted air, containing volatile, organic compounds (VOC's), from the drying of painted objects in the oven cavity, is directed from the oven cavity, through ducts to suspended, recuperative, heat exchanger tubes in the incineration chamber. The preheated, polluted air, at 800.degree. F.-1000.degree. F. emerging from the heat exchanger, is discharged adjacent to a linear gas burner, in the combustion chamber. The VOC's are burned by the burner and part of the heated air and products of combustion are directed to heat one of the radiant walls.

  • Patent number: 5363569
Abstract: A bearing and seal assembly for rotatably supporting an open front end of a clothes dryer drum includes a ring of felt-like material positioned between the circular open front end of the drum and a circular support flange of smaller diameter coaxially nested within the end of the drum. The felt-like material is fixed to the flange and substantially fills an annular space between the drum and the flange to preclude air leakage therebetween. The upper or outer surface of the felt seal, which is in engagement with the circular open front end of the drum, is powder coated with a wear-resistant material such as polytetrafluoroethylene. The powder-coated surface is slidably engaged by the drum and bears the weight of the end of the drum. The felt-like material acts as a sound dampener and shock absorber between the rotating drum and the fixed flange to preclude transmission or generation of undesirable noise caused by rotation of the drum.
