Abstract: The design and construction of past oxygen injection systems having an oxygen mixer to inject oxygen into an air intake pipe required the use of oxygen in a highly pressurized state. The use of high pressure oxygen required precise pressure control in order to maintain safety. Additionally, the high pressure tank used for storing the oxygen was not space efficient due to the large volume occupied by the oxygen in the gaseous state. The present invention overcomes these problems by utilizing oxygen in the liquid state. Liquid oxygen is stored within a more space efficient storage tank. A solenoid is signaled through an electronic control unit to open under specific operating conditions allowing liquid oxygen to flow from the storage tank. Upon leaving the storage tank, the liquid oxygen is converted to a gaseous state where it flows through an oxygen supply pipe so that the oxygen can be injected by an oxygen mixer into an air intake pipe for mixing with ambient air.

Abstract: A remotely piloted vehicle control and interface system is provided. A penal computer equipped with an RS232 serial communication port passes an ASCII character(s) as a serial data stream. A shift register device converts the serial data stream to a parallel data character and continuously generates a status signal indicating one of the presence or absence of the parallel data character. A central processing unit, responsive to the status signal, compares the parallel data character with a set of valid control characters to generate a control signal when a match occurs therebetween. A transmitter, responsive to the control signal, transmits a radio frequency control signal to the remotely piloted vehicle.

Abstract: A refractive index-based sensor uses a light source and an optical fiber to direct an optical beam towards a sensor/environment face at a specific angle. The sensor has a predetermined shape selected such that the light directed into the sensor will have a specific angle of incidence designed to detect a plurality of liquids. A second optical fiber carries the light reflected off the sensor/environment face to a photodetector. The optical beam will either be transmitted through or reflected off the sensor/environment face based upon the refractive indices of the sensor and the environment and upon the angle of incidence of the optical beam. The amount of light reflected is indicative of the refractive index of the material in a given area of the sensor/environment face and, thus, the type of material. By adjusting the angle at which the light is directed to the sensor/environment face, the photodetector response can be calibrated to identify the type of liquid present at the sensor/environment face.

Abstract: Disclosed is a circuit board and a process for the manufacture thereof providing a circuit board comprising a metal core having parallel first and second major faces and exhibiting high thermal and electrical conductivity. The circuit board includes electrical insulating layers of thermally conductive, dielectric material applied to the first and second major faces of the metal core. Protecting the dielectric layer and copper conductors is a solder mask layer applied to the dielectric layers and forming outward facing major surfaces. A plurality of insulated and grounded vias having electrically conductive interior rings connecting the major surfaces are provided through the board. Conductive sleeves within the vias are either electrically insulated from the metal core by dielectric material or in electrical contact to the metal core for grounding.

Abstract: A computer interface adapter is provided to support data communication been a parallel signal device operating at the MIL-STD-1397B Type B interface and a serial signal device operating at the MIL-STD-1397B Type E interface. A first converter, connected to the input and output channels of the parallel signal device, converts parallel format data between the Type B voltage level and a standard transistor-transistor-logic (TTL) level. A second converter, connected to the input and output ports of the serial signal device, converts serial format data between the Type E voltage level and the standard TTL level. Staging memory is provided to temporarily store parallel format data at the standard TTL level. A parallel-to-serial converter converts parallel format data in the staging memory into serial format data at the standard TTL level and passes same to the second converter.
