  • Patent number: 5549014
Abstract: A workcenter comprises a track (14) having a carriage (24) moveable along the track by a screw (32) rotated by a motor (30). The carriage has a bore (42) surrounding the screw. Two sleeve members (160) are received in the bore at either end thereof and surround said screw. The sleeve members are segmented and have threads for engagement with the screw. The sleeve members are pressed radially into engagement with the screw by a spring ring (198). The sleeve members are constructed from deformable plastics material and are screwed onto the screw against the opposite shoulders (163) around the bore in the carriage sufficient to deform the threads so as to take up axial freedom of movement between the carriage and screw. This arrangement allows an inexpensive rolled steel screw having inherent inaccuracies to be employed without loss of positional accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5549018
Abstract: A small-locus machining apparatus is attached to the distal end of a wrist of a robot but operable independently of a robot body. First and second drives of the apparatus are mounted on a base in such a manner that respective output spindles are parallel with each other. First and second rotational arms are coupled to the output spindles through decelerators, which are directly connected to the drives, allowing rotation in a plane orthogonal to the output spindles. These rotational arms and links interconnecting the rotational arms constitute a link mechanism having, for example, five joints. A tool is attached to this link mechanism, and the rotational amounts of the first and second arms are detected to determine the coordinate position of the tool.

  • Patent number: 5549024
Abstract: A clamshell machining lathe for cutting and finishing pipes in industrial settings comprises a split-ring assembly, including a clamping ring that is positioned about the pipe, and journaled to the clamping ring is a rotatable gear ring that supports a tool block carrying a cutting tool. The improvement resides in the bearing arrangement used to journal the gear ring to the stationary clamping ring. One face of the gear ring includes an annular groove whose side walls define a bearing race. The race is dimensioned to receive a plurality of roller bearings therein, the roller bearings being affixed to a planar surface of the clamping gear in a circumferential arrangement so as to fit into the bearing race when the gear ring is coupled to the clamping ring. The arrangement can support greater loads without canting, thus reducing wear on the moving parts.

  • Patent number: 5549038
Abstract: A modulated steam cooker in which food to be cooked is received in an oven chamber having an access door associated with a door switch, steam being fed directly into the oven by a steam generator having an electric heater immersed in a pool of water. The heater is connected through the door switch to a power source whereby the generator is powered only when the door is shut. The pressure of steam draining from the oven is sensed by a pressure-responsive switch interposed between the heater and the power source, the pressure switch intermittently interrupting the power supplied to the heater only when the sensed pressure exceeds a predetermined level somewhat above atmospheric pressure, thereby modulating the generation of steam supplied to the oven as a function of the quantity and temperature of food therein to effect efficient cooking of the food. Mounted on the steam generator is a spray head supplied with water only when the door is opened.

  • Patent number: 5549040
Abstract: A food material heating mechanism includes at least an upper and a lower heating plate. Food material is placed on a food material tray which is then placed on the lower heating plate. The upper and lower heating plates are moved toward each other to cause an upper surface of the food material to make contact with a bottom surface of the upper heating plate for a heating process. Heating is enhanced by adding a layer of a far infrared radiation substance to surfaces of the heating plates and food material tray which make contact with the food material. The food material tray is preheated to a temperature that is substantially lower than a temperature of the upper heating plate, whereby during the heating process, a soft surface is produced by contact of the food material with the food material tray, and a crusty surface is produced by contact with the upper heating plate. A fluororesin, such as TEFLON, can be added to the surfaces which come into contact with the food material to prevent sticking.
