  • Patent number: 5603156
Abstract: A method of lapping the air bearing surface of a magnetoresistive head which minimizes the likelihood of interelement shorts at the air bearing surface is described. In a final, linear lapping phase, the air bearing surface is lapped back and forth parallel to the longitudinal axis of the head elements in an oscillatory path across a stationary lapping surface. Any scratches or smears of the elements will be along the length of the elements rather than transverse to the elements. Any transverse scratches or smears occurring in earlier lapping phases will be removed during the linear lapping phase.

  • Patent number: 5603158
Abstract: An adhesive is applied onto a flexible resistive film 1 and dried to form an adhesive layer 2. A metal foil 3 is contacted onto the layer 2, which is subjected to a heat and pressing treatment. The foil 3 is polished. An ultraviolet light curable ink is applied on the foil 3 and dried to form a first layer 4. A negative film is placed on or over the layer 4 and ultraviolet light is irradiated thereto through the film so that the layer 4 is cured. Uncured portions of the layer 4 is removed so that cured portions thereof remain and the foil 3 is exposed between the remaining cured portions. The metal foil 3 is subjected to an etching treatment to remove exposed portions of the foil 3 so that unexposed portions of the foil 3 remain and form conductors 3A. The cured portions of the layer 4 is removed from the conductors 3A. A metal plating film 5 is formed on each conductor 3A to form each electrical conductive circuit 9.

  • Patent number: 5603168
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating a dryer used to reduce the moisture content of sheet material such as a jet veneer dryer. A drying chamber is provided and includes a plurality of individual, juxtaposed drying sections. Each drying section circulates air in a path substantially transverse to the path of movement through the dryer. A single point exhaust system extracts the exhaust from the first drying section. A wet seal section located at the input end of the dryer includes an exhaust passage through which a gas sample is drawn by a sampling fan. Gases within the wet seal section are a combination of ambient air drawn through restricted passages at the entry to the wet seal section and exhaust gas that bleeds into the wet seal section from the drying chamber. A controller monitors the temperature of the sampled gases and ambient air and adjusts the rate of exhaust flow from the main exhaust system as a function of the temperature differential.

  • Patent number: 5603187
Abstract: A watertight mounting system for keeping objects, such as climate control devices, solar panels, etc., above a roof deck. The system has a deck mount with a flat plate for fastening directly to the roof deck and a coupling joint with an insertion opening for receiving an elongate joining member by its bottom end. A supporting means or element is attached to the top end of the elongate member. Preferably, the supporting means is a U-shaped channel and is attached to the elongate member by a swivelable cap. The U-shaped channel receives an object framework, preferably made up of beams, which upholds the object. This allows the user to orient the supporting means parallel with the horizontal and thus maintain objects level on a pitched roof deck. The lower portion of the elongate member is tightly enveloped by a flashing to provide a watertight seal between the elongate member and the flashing. The lower portion of the flashing covers the deck mount and is attached to the roof deck in a watertight manner.

  • Patent number: 5603193
Abstract: A sealing system for a multi-panel T-bar ceiling. The panels are supported upon arms of the T-bar supports and a locking system is used for sealing the peripheral edges of the panels upon the arms of the T-bar. The sealing is in compressive relation of the panels upon the arms against upward forces that might tend to move the panels off the T-bar such as in cleaning operations and the like. The locking system is comprised of an operating rod, such as a screw or the like extending through the T-bar which can turn a threaded locking member, such as a clip or the like into forceful relation against the edge of the panel into sealing engagement against the arms of the T-bar. When sealed, only the head of the screw is visible from the bottom of the panel. A resilient seal may be employed between the panel and the arm of the T-bar.

Abstract: A stretchable film is used whose width is substantially equal to that of the bottom of an article of the largest format which can be processed by the packaging machine. The film is characterized by considerable stretchability and a low elastic memory when stretched. The portion of film cyclically introduced into the wrapping station is normally subjected to longitudinal pre-stretching which has the function of decreasing the width of the film, and the extent of this pre-stretching is variable according to the dimensions of the article to be wrapped, so that the portion of film has a width proportionate to the corresponding dimension of the article to be wrapped.

Abstract: A method and a device are specified for feeding, arranging and distributing articles on a conveyor and for inserting the articles in receptacles, particularly for articles which are identical or similar to each other (monoproducts). The system involved is flexible and cost-effective in operation, with which articles of differing shape and size can be processed without any substantial alteration of its components. For this purpose, articles fed unarranged are gathered by means of gathering rails in lanes in juxtaposition and apportioned, counted and distributed according to the capacity of subsequent inserter means, to form groups having the same number of articles which are transferred into receptacles, whereby excess articles are diverted from one lane to a neighboring lane.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an airtight, recyclable, biodegradable package includes the steps of stamping a cardboard sheet to mark the folding lines which define the lateral walls, the top walls and the bottom of the package as well as adhesive bands. The sheet is then sterilized. A fast drying adhesive substance is applied on the adhesive bands between the walls. The cardboard sheet is then folded so that the adhesive bands overlap each other in pairs forming a tube. The ends of the tube are closed by folding the bottom walls making a flat base. The top walls are folded to seal the tube. The adhesive in the adhesive bands becomes activated to form a closed airtight package.
