Abstract: The fabrication of bipolar junction transistors in silicon-on-sapphire (SOS) relies upon the laser-assisted dopant activation in SOS. A patterned 100% aluminum mask whose function is to reflect laser light from regions where melting of the silicon is undesirable is provided on an SOS wafer to be processed. The wafer is placed within a wafer carrier that is evacuated and backfilled with an inert atmosphere and that is provided with a window transparent to the wavelength of the laser beam to allow illumination of the masked wafer when the carrier is inserted into a laser processing system. A pulsed laser (typically an excimer laser) beam is appropriately shaped and homogenized and one or more pulses are directed onto the wafer. The laser beam pulse energy and pulse duration are set to obtain the optimal fluence impinging on the wafer in order to achieve the desired melt duration and corresponding junction depth.

More particularly, a reinforced landing surface is disclosed for securing a hook-type mechanical fastener thereto. The reinforced landing surface includes a fibrous non-woven layer and a scrim-like web that is attached in a composite arrangement to the fibrous non-woven layer. The mechanical fasteners include a plurality of hooks, such as those used in a hook and loop type fastener which extend through the scrim-like web and penetrate the non-woven fibrous layer and become intertwined therewith. Depending upon the fastening requirements, the pattern of the scrim-like web may be repetitive, variable, continuous or discrete.

Abstract: The transfer device of this invention comprises a sled means 10 and a handle means 12. The sled means 10 comprises a generally rectangular, relatively thin and flat-surfaced transfer board 20. Transfer board 20 has two parallel sides and two transverse ends. Each side is provided with a plurality of loops 22 which conjoin with mating fasteners 24 of the handle means. Loops may be spaced equidistantly from the transverse ends along the sides of the transfer board 20. Handle means 12 comprises a grip bar 26, a tension bar 28, a plurality of fastener means 24, and a plurality of straps 30 which are attached to the grip and tension bars as shown.
Abstract: A disc record/reproduce apparatus with a brushless dc motor having no separate dedicated position sensor, controls rotation of the dc synchronous motor by back-electromotive force signals developed in windings of the brushless dc motor using a/d converter included in one-chip microprocessor in the first mode, and controls by position and index signals recorded on the disc in the second mode. During start-up, a start-up oscillator is used. The control with a back-electromotive force signal is provided to enable the microprocessor to write a position signal on a disc and provided for inspecting the brushless dc motor independently. In the second mode, functions for executing the back-electromotive force control in the microprocessor is disabled during recording and reproducing of data to prevent overload on the microprocessor which is busy because of communication with an external computer and control of head position.
Abstract: An exercise machine for performing an incline press includes a frame, a declined seat connected to the frame along a vertical midplane and two independently maneuverable levers with upper rearward ends pivotally connected to the frame above the seat, on opposite sides of the midplane. The lower, forward ends of the levers are adapted to hold removable weights. Handles also extend inwardly, rearwardly and upwardly from the lower ends of the levers. Each handle is adapted to be grasped by a person supported on the seat and upwardly extended and adducted in an incline press motion against the held weights to move the respective lever along a vertical plane that converges inwardly with respect to the vertical midplane. This incline press exercise machine accommodates the natural musculoskeletal movements of the arms and shoulders of a person, thereby maximizing muscular benefit while minimizing joint stress.

Its corners are rounded and its size is wide enough to surround the baby's head and shoulders and long enough to hold two shoulder straps (12). Shoulder straps (12) are stretchable to ease the baby's arms into the device. Cushion (10) is supported behind the baby's head without any elements that visually or physically protrude around or upon the baby's head. If the baby slips, its head, as well as its neck and shoulders, will fall against cushion (10).
