Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Asian Pear, botanically known as Pyrus pyrifolia is provided. The new cultivar forms attractive late-season medium-sized ovate fruit having a light brown russet surface with prominent raised tan lenticels and a very sweet and rich flavor. The tree also exhibits a vigorous dense growth habit and is well branched. The leaves are medium green in coloration with pinnate finely-branched venation and an acuminate apex. The picking of the fruit commonly occurs during mid- to late-October at Coopersburg, Pa., U.S.A. Substantial and consistent fruit crops are formed.

The volume of sludge transported is accurately measured by determining the fill percentage by using a material flow signal, measured time intervals, hydraulic fluid pressure, or hydraulic fluid flow rate during each pumping cycle.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved transdermal drug delivery device for the controlled transdermal delivery of amino-functional drugs. The improvement resides in providing the device with a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive layer which has been chemically treated to reduce the silicon-bonded hydroxyl content of the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition to render the adhesive layer resistant to loss of tack and preserve the instant adherence of the device to the skin of a wearer during storage and while the device is being worn. Preferably, the composition used comprises a silicon-bonded hydroxyl radical containing resinous copolymer of R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 units and SiO.sub.4/2 units and a polydiorganosiloxane which have been chemically treated with R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 units where R is preferably a hydrocarbon radical such as a methyl group to reduce the silicon-bonded hydroxyl content of the adhesive and thereby its sensitivity to amino-functional drugs.

Abstract: A connector block for connecting drop wires to conductors of a multi-conductor cable is disclosed. The connector block includes a housing having plural apertures therethrough and individual terminal modules which are insertable into the housing. The terminal modules may be inserted into the housing in plural different orientations to permit insertion of the drop wire from different directions, Each individual terminal module establishes electrical connection between a drop wire pair and a pair of conductors of the multiconductor cable.

Abstract: My invention comprises an athletic support glove that will allow its user to engage in vigorous athletic activity while protecting the fingers, thumb and hand from lacerations, abrasions, bruises, dislocations and fractures that injure many athletes. The athletic support glove is provided with non-elastic partitions between each of the adjacent fingers as well as between the index finger and thumb, and a strap that secures the thumb to the hand and wrist of the wearer.

Abstract: A headcover for a human head that has an isosceles triangular shaped first fabric material and with the base of a smaller isosceles shaped supple fabric sewn to the first fabric material such that the smaller triangle is sewn to and centered on the base of the first fabric material, darts sewn into edges of the first fabric material to cause said material to fold along lines extending from the darts to the peak of the smaller isosceles triangle as the peak of the first fabric material is folded to pass between a resilient ring on the first fabric material and the back of the head of a user of the headcover.

Abstract: A combination garment constructed of stretch material including a torso portion to snugly engage and enclose the lower torso of a wearer and at least a portion of the thighs or upper leg portions of a wearer and a pair of leg portions engaging and enclosing the remainder of the legs of a wearer. Coacting connecting structures are provided on the upper end of the leg portions and the lower ends of the portions of the torso portion that engages and encloses the thighs or upper leg portions of a wearer for attaching and detaching the leg portions in relation to the torso portion.

Abstract: An inserted pocket system for use with a waterproof garment having a face fabric is provided and includes a waterproof bag-shaped pocket insert having a waterproof bag, an inner pocket part located at the backing of the garment face fabric and an outer pocket part which projects from an insertion opening and a pocket flap which covers the insertion opening. The pocket system is installed within the garment in such a way as to keep contents within the pocket free from moisture.

Abstract: An ergonomic head band which may be comfortably worn for extended periods of time. The head band includes a strap having first and second upwardly curved side arcuate segments, a front arcuate region, and tails which couple together at the back of a wearer's head. Platform regions are provided between the front arcuate region and side arcuate segments. The side arcuate segments comfortably accommodate the ears of a wearer while the head band is worn, while the front arcuate region is positioned adjacent the wearer's head. The platform regions allow face shields or other apparatus to be coupled to the head band.

Abstract: A movable rear strap stabilizer clip for use with a helmet's strapping system. The stabilizer clip provides a bridge between the rear straps at a location distal from the back portion of the helmet. The stabilizer clip provides an additional support point in the helmet's strapping system for greater conformability with the user's head.

Abstract: A web type mounting pad for a mini-flashlight is removably secured to a helmet with elastic straps having hooks that clip to the helmet rim. In one embodiment three straps (two long one short) secure the mounting pad. In another embodiment a slidable mounting pad slides on one or more elastic straps. In another embodiment a snap on Velcro band holds a removable Velcro mounting pad, and a tether secures the hand held flashlight to the helmet.

Abstract: A child's toilet seat assembly includes a mount which is attachable to the toilet bowl of a common adult-sized toilet and a child's seat body which is securable to the mount in a snap-fit relationship therewith. The mount includes a base having wing sections which are securable to the bowl with bolts used to secure the adult-sized seat atop the upper rim of the toilet bowl and rounded portions which are maintained in an elevated condition above the base. The child's seat includes a body having portions which cooperate with the rounded portions of the mount to permit the body of the child's seat to be interfitted with the mount in a snap-fit relationship therewith. When joined together, the body of the child's seat can be pivoted between raised and lowered positions without interfering with the movement of or the use of the adult-sized seat.

Abstract: A rubber gasket slightly larger than the footprint of a standard toilet base. The gasket has central hole for surrounding the soil pipe or connection flange from the toilet. A lip surrounds the gasket and the hole to retain any liquid leaked onto the gasket. Optional extensions to the gasket may be placed under other components of the toilet from which leaks are likely, such as the water supply valves. The gasket pads the toilet from the floor surface and protects the floor from any slow leaks from the toilet. The gasket is particularly useful for protection from deteriorated wax seals between the toilet and the drain flange. Any slow leaks through a wax seal will be captured on the gasket and will thus be evident to observers as wetness on the gasket. Without the flange the slow leak would seep into the floor and the ceiling below, most likely causing major damage before it was detected.

Abstract: A toilet has a pump to deliver selected quantities of water from a reservoir to a toilet bowl so as to effect a water savings. In one aspect, both the motor and pump are positioned in the reservoir to deliver water to both the rim and bowl portions. In another aspect, there are conduits connected between the basin, the rim and controls which are provided to deliver water to the rim and bowl either independently, simultaneously or in selective sequences. In alternative embodiments, a refill tube is connected to an intake conduit and the rim of the bowl to effect a water seal, a fail safe valve is connected to the supply conduit, a receptacle with a cleaning fluid and a pump is connected to the bowl and there are at least two receptacles for receiving waste.

Abstract: A consistent-delivery flush and fill system for a water tank. A vertically movable post with a central passage carries a valve plug to open and close a valve seat for a discharge port from the tank. Buoyancy means on the post respond to the water level in the tank. A tank valve supplies water to the tank. When the tank is full the tank valve is closed. Engagement means on the post prevents the tank valve from opening until the tank is substantially emptied, at which time the valve plug closes the discharge port and enables the tank valve to open, having delivered a substantially constant volume of water from flush-to-flush.

Abstract: A wheelchair seat is formed with an aperture around which a toilet seat and lid are mounted. A bed pan support and removable bed pan are positioned directly below the aperture. The bed pan may be easily installed and removed from the support from the rear of the wheel chair seat without disturbing the occupant of the wheelchair.

Abstract: A snap hook fastener for swimming pool covers is provided to hold a pool cover edge rigidly close to the edge of the pool. The snap hook/eyebolt connection supports a pool edge sealing member in a proper orientation for optimal contact with the pool wall. The fastener includes a hook device used to attach the pool cover to the edge of a pool. It holds the edge of the pool cover horizontal and very close to the edge of the pool to minimize the chance of persons or objects falling between.

Abstract: A spout which can effect a waterfall in the form of a sheet of water in conjunction with the recirculation of bathing water is described. An accumulator with a baffle structure receives the recirculating bathing water to place it in a quiescent state before passage from the spout. In a preferred embodiment, there is a whirlpool basin which receives bathing water from the spout as well as body spray nozzles which also receive recirculating water from the basin.

Abstract: A positioning device for people in hospital beds is disclosed. The device includes a sheet which is placed under the patient. This is connected by rope to an apparatus on the headboard of the bed. Either by the bed's existing motor, or an independent motor, the patient is moved up in bed towards the headboard. This action eliminates the need for two or more people for the job of positioning a person in bed. The chance of an on-the-job injury is also greatly reduced with this positioning aid.

Abstract: A foldable bed includes a pair of legs arranged between a head member and a foot member. Four pairs of pivot axels are arranged between and coupled to the members and the legs by four pairs of links. Two pairs of frames are pivotally coupled between the legs and the members and each pair include a middle portion pivotally coupled together by a hinge member so as to allow the frames to be folded upward about the hinge member and so as to support the frames in horizontal position by the hinge member. The bed may be folded to a rather compact configuration.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for controlling outward movement of flexible walls defining an enclosed chamber of a device inflatable by air or other compressible fluid, the outward movement occurring in response to application of an external force over portions of a flexible wall to decrease the volume and increase the internal pressure of the chamber. Spring-like couplings, preferably in the form of elastic members such as "rubber bands," are attached at spaced points to portions of the flexible, relatively moveable walls inside and/or outside the chamber. The couplings are so attached as to be expanded or stretched by relative movement of the flexible wall portions as the external force is applied, whereby the members exert a force resiliently opposing movement of the flexible walls in response to the increase in internal pressure caused by application of the external force.

Abstract: A bed apparatus is provided which has a support frame, a rotation frame and a bed plate structure. The rotation frame has a one-end side and other-end side supported in a width direction so that one of these end sides each serving as a fulcrum is rotatable in a direction in which an opposite-end side of the rotation frame is raised. A link mechanism is connected to the rotation frame and driven by a drive source. The bed plate structure comprises a middle bed plate assembly and a pair of side bed plate assemblies connected to the middle bed plate assembly such that these side bed plate assemblies can be rotated in the raised direction only. With the rotation frame rotated, one of these side bed plate assemblies which is situated on a lower side in the rotation direction is abutted against the support frame to allow the bed plate structure to be bent upwardly.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for positioning a leg during surgery has a support for holding a substantial portion of one of the patient's legs on the side facing the other leg and a pivot located in the proximity of the patient's pelvis. After patient's pelvis is secured relative to the operating table, the distal end of the support can be moved for adjustment of the outer extremity of the patient's leg relative to the operating table to selectively position the leg relative to the patient's pelvis.

Abstract: A head rest for supporting a human head relative to a ground surface. The inventive device includes a base frame positionable upon a ground surface. An upper frame is supported at an angle relative to the base frame by a plurality of stanchions extending therebetween. A perimeter pad extends about the upper frame for engaging a human head. The upper frame is substantially oval in shape to accommodate a human head in both prone and supine positions.

Abstract: A portable ramp for providing a bridge between a ground level surface and a raised surface. The ramp includes a support plate having a substantially horizontal first portion adapted to rest along an edge of the raised surface. A second portion of the plate extends vertically downward from the first portion and a third portion extends generally outwardly from the second portion in a direction generally toward the ground level surface. The third portion of the plate member supports one end of an angled beam which extends at a generally predetermined angle from the plate to the ground level surface. The opposite end of the beam is supported with respect to the ground level surface by a resilient foot member which provides stability. A traction plate having upwardly projecting portions is attached to a top surface of the beam intermediate the support plate and foot member in order to increase friction and provide traction along the inclined beam.

Abstract: A brush assembly for the improved cleaning of the interior of a bottle includes a cap having a central opening and a twisted, elongated stem passing through the central opening. The stem has a brush assembly at one end and an operating assembly at the other end, and with the brush assembly mounted in a bottle, the pushing or pulling of the operating means will push or pull the twisted, elongated stem through the central opening in the cap so as to automatically rotate the brush.

Abstract: A floor burnisher having a frame, a peripheral housing, rear wheels and a front caster, the housing having an internal cylindrical wall defining a vertical chamber having an open bottom; a floating rotational drive motor in the chamber, and a rotational pad-driver underlying and connected to the motor to be rotationally driven thereby for mounting a flexible burnishing pad; suspension links and springs between the frame and drive motor suspending the drive motor, pad-driver and pad thereon in a floating fashion relative to the frame and housing, allowing limited vertical movement relative to the cylindrical wall; a flexible, peripheral, floor-engagement skin suspended from the peripheral housing shroud, and an air flow control sealing member between the motor and annular wall for preventing excessive air flow between the floating motor and wall into the burnisher wall chamber.

Abstract: A combination toothbrush and storage/dispenser apparatus 10 having a handle 30 with a hollow chamber 30A, a toothbrush head 20 attached to an end of the handle 30, and at least one tray 40 for storing articles which the at least one tray 40 slidingly inserts into and moves inside the hollow chamber 30A. The articles stored in the tray 40 can be pills 70. The combination apparatus 10 can further have a pill dispenser 50 that is integral with an end of the handle 30 for dispensing pills 70 from the tray 40. The pill dispenser 50 has a dispensing slot 51 through which the pills 70 are dispensed and a tray stop located near the dispensing slot 51 for stopping the tray 40 from further being removed from the handle 30 when a pill 70 is at the dispensing slot 51. The tray stop can be a deflectable tray stop 55 which allows the tray 40 that is loaded with pills 70 to be inserted into the hollow chamber 30A, but stops the movement of the tray 40 when a pill 70 is at the dispensing slot 51 ready to be dispensed.

Abstract: A rotary brush is especially useful in vacuum cleaning of duct interiors. The brush has a hub with a center hole for receiving a drive shaft of a power tool, an annular collar positioned over the hub, and a low density strand set of polymeric flexible strands extending from the annular collar. The collar has a set of substantially uniformly spaced radial holes to receive the strands. The strand set of polymeric flexible strands is capable of being bent axially of the annular collar so as to access the duct's interior through a small opening. The strand set is also capable of bending radially during a cleaning process. The low density of strands ensures that efficient vacuuming of debris loosened by the rotary brush is accomplished.

Abstract: A mop wringer is adapted for mounting on the rim of a basin or toilet bowl. The wringer has a pressure plate with a lower edge. The wringer also has a mounting frame with a lower receptacle for receiving the lower edge of the pressure plate. The frame also has an upper receptacle adapted to fit onto the rim of the basin or bowl. The pressure plate is mounted on the mounting frame for compressing a mop between the pressure plate and the mounting frame. The mounting frame has a lug projecting on the mounting frame away from the pressure plate. This lug is above the lower receptacle and below the upper receptacle when the wringer is mounted on the basin or bowl.

Abstract: A resist processing apparatus has a washing nozzle inclined outward at a predetermined angle, for jetting a washing liquid to a vicinity of the undersurface of the peripheral portion of an article to be processed, and a collecting device for collecting the washing liquid from a portion above the article. The washing liquid is supplied by the force of the jet and the centrifugal force of the washing liquid from the washing nozzle to the undersurface of the article to remove coated films formed on the peripheral portion of the undersurface of the article. The washing liquid further reaches the upper surface of the article through the peripheral edge of the article. The width of the coated films to be removed is adjusted by properly regulating the amount of flow and the sucked amount of the washing liquid determined by its viscosity.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for cleaning floors. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes four wheels, two of which are steerable wheels, and a steering mechanism that permits the two steerable wheels to turn to a degree that allows very tight turns to be made by the sweeper. In another embodiment, the apparatus is a sweeper with a cylindrical side broom. Yet a further embodiment of the sweeper includes flaps or seals that form a skirt about the broom and a mounting mechanism for slidably receiving the flap or seal. In a further embodiment, the apparatus is a sweeper that employs flaps with wear indicators that tell an operator when to adjust or replace the flap. In another embodiment, the apparatus is a sweeper that utilizes a pre-filter to remove debris that remains in the vacuum airstream after having passed through the hopper and that is of a size that can require frequent cleaning of a subsequent filtering device.

Abstract: The instant invention relates to a compression bar such as is used in the main drafting zone of drafting rollers of the textile industry. The invention considerably reduces deposits on a compression bar. The fixed compression bar has a rectangular cross-section, with its narrow faces being rounded off. On the other hand, the compression bar is rotatably mounted about its longitudinal axis, whereby the compression bar has preferably a circular cross-section.

Abstract: A bag closure for securely closing a handled shopping bag or the like. The bag closure includes a thin, flexible piece of material having an elongated center strip and a pair of flaps pivotably mounted to opposite sides of the center strip. The center strip defines a slot therein for receiving the handles of a bag. Attached to each of the flaps is a fastener such as adhesive double stick tape for fastening the flap to a side of a bag. To close a bag with the bag closure, the bag handles are slipped through the bag closure slot and the flaps bent to press and fasten against the bag sides. The bag closure fasteners may be fastened and unfastened multiple times, permitting the bag closure to be used over and over again with the same or different bags. The bag closure fastener can also be made so that once the closure is secured, it may be recognizable that the bag was tampered with if opened.

Abstract: A file for gripping sheets of the invention is formed of an elongated base member and a plurality of gripping devices attached to the base member. The base member is formed of upper and lower portions, a back portion situated between the upper and lower portions at a back side, and upper and lower guide members fixed to the upper and lower portions to face to each other at a front side. Each guide member diagonally extends toward the back portion. Each gripping device includes upper and lower frictional members with elasticity. The upper frictional member is fixed to the upper portion, and the lower frictional member is fixed to the lower portion to face to each other. When the sheets are inserted between the upper and lower portions, the sheets are guided by the guide members and are frictionally retained between the frictional members.
