  • Patent number: 5626002
Abstract: A packaging machine places cartons on an carton conveyor in an inverted-T configuration with the panels of the carton being generally horizontal and the walls of the carton collapsed together in a generally vertical orientation. An overhead assembly has carrier assemblies for picking up the cartons, opening the cartons, and lowering the cartons onto article groups. Each carrier assembly has a pair of opening members with protruding fingers for insertion within cut-outs formed in the cartons. After a carrier assembly has engaged a carton in an inverted-T configuration, one of the opening members in the carrier assembly is moved away from the other opening member, thereby opening the carton. Each carrier assembly has cam followers which travel within three cam plates, one for controlling an orientation of the carrier assembly, one for supporting the carrier assembly, and one for opening and closing the opening members.

  • Patent number: 5626005
Abstract: The apparatus has a distributor (11) with a straight conveying section (12), on which the N bundles of notes originating from a stack of sheets of notes are advanced one behind the other up to N predetermined bundle positions. Fitted underneath the conveying section (12), having an adjustable base (13), are N magazines in the form of vertical compartments which are located vertically underneath the bundle positions. Once all N bundle positions on the conveying section (12) are occupied by bundles, the base (13) is swung down, so that all N bundles can drop simultaneously into the N magazine compartments. After closing of the base, the next N bundles pass on the conveying section (12) into their bundle positions and, after opening of the base, can drop into the magazines as the second layer.

  • Patent number: 5626013
Abstract: For the movement of work-in-process materials on a storage or manufacturing floor, a grid of computer-controlled, unmanned jib cranes is established. The cranes' operational areas overlap. A crane can place an individual part or a magazine of parts on an elevated, revolving pedestal which then automatically rotates 180 degrees so that the next crane in line can pick up these materials and move them into its own area. The hand of the crane is moved so that it can place its load directly into the position in the machine tool where it undergoes its next process. The arm of the jib crane is fully retractable and computer-controlled, using a laser integrated into the computer's system to aid in detecting the crane's hand location at each delivery position that the crane visits. The jib cranes can lift parts up to a level that places them near the ceiling of the manufacturing floor area.

  • Patent number: 5626016
Abstract: The invention provides a vibrator which may be used to vibrate industrial apparatus such as a conveyor, hopper, bin, screen, shaker table, or to agitate a fluid. The vibrator has a element comprising a concave outer skin on one side and a convex outer skin on the other side which define between them a cavity. The cavity is connected to a hydraulic driving circuit which provides a continuous series of high pressure pulses. Each pulse causes the deformable element to change shape. The continuous application of a series of pulses causes the deformable element to continuously vibrate. The high pressure pulses are generated by creating a water hammer within a conduit by means of a valve which can be rapidly opened and closed to allow fluid to flow through the conduit and then suddenly block the fluid flow. The vibrating apparatus may be used to shake industrial structures such as shaking screens, shaking tables, hoppers, bins or the like.

  • Patent number: 5626017
Abstract: In a combustion chamber consisting of a first stage (1) and a second stage (2) arranged downstream in the direction of flow, a mixer (100) is arranged on the head side of the first stage (1), which mixer (100) forms a fuel/air mixture (19). Acting on the outflow side of this mixer (100) is a catalyzer (3) in which the said mixture (19) is completely burnt, the mixing being selected in such a way that an adiabatic flame temperature of between 800.degree. and 1100.degree. C. arises. Positioned on the outflow side of this catalyzer (3) are vortex generators (200) which provide for a turbulent flow. Downstream of these vortex generators (200), fuel (9) is injected and self-ignition initiated. A following jump (12) in cross section in the cross section of flow of the combustion chamber, which jump (12) in cross section forms the start of the second stage (2), provides a stabilizing backflow zone of the flame front (21).

  • Patent number: 5626022
Abstract: An container for holding a material, such as a food, beverage or medicine, includes a cap and a container body. The container body has a material cavity unitarily formed with a reactant cavity. The reactant cavity contains a solid reactant, and the cap contains a liquid reactant that, when mixed, produce an endothermic or exothermic reaction, depending upon the reactants selected. The cap has a tubular body section with an actuator disc closing one end and a breakable barrier closing the other end. With the exception of the barrier, the cap is of unitary construction. The cap has one or more prongs extending from the inner surface of the disc toward the barrier. When a user depresses the actuator disc, it flexes inwardly and moves the prongs toward the barrier. The reactants mix when the prongs puncture the barrier. Heat transferred between the two cavities heats or cools the material. The wall of the container that defines the reactant cavity may be pleated or corrugated to promote heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 5626032
Abstract: A system having a matched vane compressor and impeller is described for use in either a hydraulic system or in a two phase air conditioning system. The impeller is matched to the compressor to return work to the compressor through a shaft or gearbox. The compressor is a vane compressor having longitudinally reciprocating vanes carried in a slotted disc between matched, opposed cam faces forming a series of variable geometry chambers which draw in and expel working fluid during rotation of the shaft. Compression is achieved by exposing the fluid in the chambers to high pressure fluid while the volume of the chamber is not changing. A pressurizing port is placed tangentially to the chambers for this purpose. The impeller also makes use of tangentially disposed pressure ports to expose the turning pockets of a drum to higher pressure.

  • Patent number: 5626034
Abstract: The present invention is a process of high efficiency rectification zone separation of cracked or other ethylene-containing gas chilled primarily by two closed mixed refrigerant loops and at least part of the dephlegmated overhead gas. The composition of the mixed refrigerants is optimally chosen to obtain an extremely close approach between the process condensation temperatures in the high efficiency rectification zone and the temperature of the chilling streams. An approach of about 3.degree. F. to 8.degree. F. can be achieved for the full condensation curve in the high efficiency rectification zone operating with either ethane or naphtha derived cracked gas. Highly reliable and stable operation is obtained by closed refrigeration loops in the present invention, in addition to reducing high efficiency rectification zone design cost.

  • Patent number: 5626044
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing steel bars wherein at least four individual bars are rolled at the same time from a single billet, thus increasing the production capacity of a given rolling mill operating at a predetermined velocity and designed to produce only one or two bars at the same time and without requiring tension relieving stations between the slitting box and the finishing rolling stands as in the prior art. The problems of uniform quality of final bars are solved by preforming the outermost elements of a multi-stranded stock with different shape and/or cross section as compared to the inner elements of said multi-stranded stock. An apparatus for separation of the individual elements of the multi-stranded bar is provided wherein the elements are separated at several stages starting with the two outermost elements in the first stage and continuing in the same order until the center elements are separated in the last stage.

  • Patent number: 5626048
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming cup-shaped metal container bodies or end shells from a metal blank in a double-acting press having inner and outer rams which operate in a timed relationship. Preferably, a plurality of blank and draw dies are mounted on a fixed base in opposed relationship to a plurality of draw horns mounted on the inner ram and movable toward the base. A corresponding member of cutting dies and draw pads are mounted on the outer ram and are movable toward the base, whereby the cutting dies cut blank disks from the sheet and the draw pads clamp the disks against the blank and draw dies, followed by the drawing of the container bodies or end shells by the draw horns. A plurality of stacked pressure-actuated pistons is carried by each of the outer rams and moves the draw pad into clamping engagement with the periphery of the blank disk.
