  • Patent number: 6021756
Abstract: The pump controller 40 determines pump load torques T.sub.r1, T.sub.r2 from tilting signals .theta..sub.1, .theta..sub.2 of hydraulic pumps 1, 2 and delivery pressure signals P.sub.D1, P.sub.D2 of the hydraulic pumps 1, 2 based on T.sub.r1 =K.multidot..theta..sub.1 .multidot.P.sub.D1 and T.sub.r2 =K.multidot..theta..sub.2 .multidot.P.sub.D2 (K: constant), and adds these pump load torques to provide a resulting value as an engine load torque signal T. Using the signal T, an engine controller 50 calculates fuel injecting timing depending on the engine load torque to control a timer actuator 55. This makes it possible to control the fuel injection timing with good response and high accuracy following load fluctuation, achieve optimum combustion, and prevent such a deterioration of exhaust gas as caused by the generation of No.sub.x.

  • Patent number: 6021758
Abstract: Manufacturing/design imperfections and component failures in the fuel system/engine can lead to non-uniform torque production among the cylinders. Non-uniform cylinder torques can be observed as small engine speed fluctuations about the average engine speed at any given operating point. Severe imbalance conditions can be heard, felt, and seen by human operators. The present invention uses the fluctuations in engine speed to detect an unbalanced engine and attempts to correct the unbalance by applying trims to the fueling commands for each individual cylinder. The present invention is based on the calculation of a 6-point Fourier Transform (FFT) of engine speed data over one complete engine cycle. This FFT is calculated continuously to provide imbalance detection. An unbalanced engine results in non-zero magnitudes of the FFT components that correspond to the 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 engine orders.

  • Patent number: 6021760
Abstract: A fuel injection device for internal combustion engines in which the motion of a fuel injection valve member is controlled by the pressure in a control chamber. The pressure in the control chamber is controlled by a control valve whose valve member is actuated by way of a hydraulic chamber, with the pressure transmitted from a piezoelectric drive device. The valve member is provided with two sealing surfaces that cooperate with oppositely disposed first and second valve seats wherein when the valve member moves from the first valve seat to the second valve seat, a short-term relief of the control chamber takes place in order to trigger a short pre-injection of fuel. For larger fuel injection quantities, the control valve is brought into an open position between the first and second valve seats or in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 6021761
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure pump for fuel delivery in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, which includes a tank, a pre-feed pump, and the high-pressure pump. The pre-feed pump aspirates a total fuel flow from the tank and this total fuel flow is divided into a lubricating flow, which is conveyed through the high-pressure pump for the purpose of lubrication, and a delivery flow, which is acted on with high pressure by the high-pressure pump and is delivered to a common distributor rail. The fuel injection system prevents damage that could occur during operation. Damage is prevented because the total fuel flow is conveyed through the high-pressure pump for the purpose of lubrication, wherein a metering unit for the total fuel flow is provided in the high-pressure pump or in a return and assures that only a predetermined delivery flow is acted on with high pressure in the high-pressure pump.

First and second deionized water supply pipes are connected at one end to a deionized water supply and at the other end to respective ends of the first and second supply nozzles. A hydrophilic-making fluid supply pipe is connected at one end to hydrophilic-making fluid supply and at the other end to the end of the first supply nozzle. It is thus possible to prevent the generation of watermarks at the boundary between hydrophobic material and hydrophilic material by performing a rinsing operation after changing the hydrophobic material into hydrophilic material.

Abstract: An improved system for removing solids such as sand from hydrocarbon liquid and water separation vessels. A nozzle discharges a fluid stream for displacing the solids within the vessel interior through a valve or exit port. The nozzle can be manipulated to selectively control the fluid stream discharge placement. A controller positions the nozzle below the vessel to clear a port and valve above the nozzle. The controller can also position the nozzle within the vessel interior and can control the placement of the nozzle liquid discharge stream. This directional control efficiently directs the solids toward a discharge port and reduces inadvertent movement of the solids into oil buckets and other defined spaces within the vessel.

Abstract: This invention includes apparatus that circulates and agitates a liquid cleansing solution in a sink by means of gas jet bubbles, in order to clean dirty articles therein. The basic device comprises a base structure, a pressurized gas supply, hollow jet nozzle means disposed in the sink, the jet nozzle means having a sealed end and a plurality of apertures thereon for gas ejection, so as to produce gas bubble jet streams which scrub and clean the articles by both article impact and agitation of the liquid cleansing solution. Preheating of the pressurized gas, coupled with a manifolded heat exchanger in the cleansing solution, provides the means for heating the cleansing solution. Temperature control means are then used to maintain the temperature of the cleansing solution against cooling. Alternately, the heat source may include a separate liquid heater. The warmed gas may also be used to dry the articles after washing.

Abstract: A method of controlling insulating fluid flow between fluid channels in sections of an electrical power cable at different elevations, the channel of one section being isolated from the channel of a next adjacent section by a hydraulic stop, to limit the loss of insulating fluid when a seciton is ruptured and yet permit a limited flow from the point of rupture to protect the cable from contamination. Fluid at a high rate from a lower section to adjacent higher sections around the stop is permitted by a check valve which substantially prevents fluid flow in the opposite direction and a flow-limiting valve permits fluid flow at a low rate from the higher section to the lower section. The fluid pressure difference between the sections may be relieved by a relief valve if the difference exceeds a predetermined amount.
