  • Patent number: 6032811
Abstract: A child resistant cap assembly includes an outer cap member having a top wall and a substantially cylindrical side wall depending therefrom. On the exterior surface of the top wall is a key slot and an alignment aperture. An inner cap member for threadedly engaging a container neck is concentrically received within said outer cap member has a mark and key slot on its top wall. The outer cap member normally rotates independently of the inner cap member. When the outer cap member's alignment aperture registers with the mark on the inner cap member, the key slots are aligned allowing a key member to be inserted therethrough. Accordingly, the inserted key member is then rotated to simultaneously rotate the inner and outer cap. The top wall of the outer cap member also includes means for removably retaining the key thereon.

  • Patent number: 6032832
Abstract: A glue head delivers lines or spots of glue onto a substrate, such as packaging materials, with precision positioning of the glue pattern, with short and balanced on/off compensation times essentially independent of glue pressure, and at high nozzle velocity. Pressurized glue advances into a plenum of the glue head preferably in a horizontal direction, then into a short and low-volume exit tube and through a nozzle, flowing in a direction perpendicular to the inflow direction. Flow to the nozzle is closed by a diaphragm valve comprising flexible elastomeric material which seats against the upstream end of the exit tube. An important feature is that glue actuator pressure is balanced, and smooth operation and glue delivery are achieved, by a rocker arm above the glue valve which, when the valve is closed by pushing the elastomeric material against the glue delivery tube, releases pressure on the glue at an upstream point in the glue plenum.

A discharge valve seat is provided at the outlet end of the hollow stem of the piston. A discharge valve member is mounted for reciprocation within the hollow stem of the piston. The discharge valve member has a surface which is in sealing engagement with the valve seat when the pump sprayer is in the discharge closed position. Pressure is applied by the user to the spray cap member in order to reciprocate the piston and the valve member against the bias of a return spring. The discharge valve member has an elongated rod like region which extends downwardly to a valve inlet. An annular ring seal is mounted for liquid tight, sliding engagement on the discharge valve member's elongated rod like region.

Abstract: A Portable Exterior Vehicle Longload Carrier designed to assist in the safe and efficient transport of long loads. Two identical load carrying members are securely mounted by hanging a certain distance apart on a side of a vehicle allowing the long load to be transported along the vehicle's length. The load carrying members can be adjusted to mount securely to almost any vehicle and include padding on all surfaces coming into contact with the vehicle thereby preventing any vehicle damage. The load carrying members further include points to attach rope, wire, hook-end elastic bands or similar products to secure the load in place for safe transport.

  • Patent number: 6032845
Abstract: In a variable-pitch tape feeder for feeding parts to a pick and place machine used to produce electronic circuit boards, a switch assembly is provided which controls the limits of a shutter movement and the tape advance distance dependent upon the desired pitch. The tape feeder uses a carrier tape to deliver parts to the pick and place machine. The parts are inserted into depressions at regular intervals along the length of the tape. To accommodate tapes of varying pitches, i.e., distances between parts, the feeder uses an electronic control unit to drive the tape feed mechanism and actuate a shutter. The shutter prevents small parts from escaping their respective depressions prematurely. The switch provides a stop surface which limits the rearward travel of the shutter and a flag which is detected by optical sensors to determine the position of the switch and thus the pitch desired by the operator.

  • Patent number: 6032846
Abstract: According to the present invention there is provided an explosively-actuated tool for use in setting fasteners into a substrate, comprising a barrel (2), a driving piston (6) mount within the barrel for driving the fastener into a substrate upon detonation of an explosive charge positioned at or adjacent the rear of the barrel, a firing chamber (8) defined in the barrel rearwardly of the piston, and a system capable of controlling the power of the tool by controlled venting of combustion gases from the firing chamber. The power control system comprises an exhaust port arrangement (14) leading from the firing chamber through the wall of the barrel, and a control member (16) for controlling the effective open area of the exhaust port arrangement. Particularly advantageously, the end of the control rod is provided with a concave arcuate control edge (16b) which provides a relatively uniform relationship between displacement of the control rod and the degree of opening of the exhaust port arrangement.

  • Patent number: 6032847
Abstract: A setting tool, actuated by highly compressed gases, for driving fastening elements into a receiving material, has an axially extending piston guide (7) forming an axially extending borehole (20) for a driving piston (21) axially displaceable in the borehole and made up of a head (9) and a shaft (8) projecting axially in a driving direction from the head. To return the driving piston (21) to a starting position after a fastening element is driven, three axially extending conical compression springs following one another and encircling the piston shaft are positioned between a stop (17) in the piston guide (7) and an end surface (18) of the piston head. Damping elements (14) are located between adjoining compression springs. In the compressed state of the compression springs, the coils in each spring are in a common plane with one another and are free of contact with one another.

  • Patent number: 6032850
Abstract: A wire of predetermined cross section is provided and fed through a capillary having a bore of predetermined shape and sufficiently larger dimensions so that the wire can be fed through the bore without impediment and without being rotatable within the bore. The capillary is applied to the surface to which the bond is to be made with the smallest cross sectional dimension of the wire disposed between the surface to be bonded and any adjacent wires or bonds in order to minimize the possibility of contact with the adjacent wires or bonds. By utilizing a shaped wire having one narrow dimension and one wide dimension, the space between bond locations required to accommodate the wire can be decreased whereas the total current carrying capacity can be the same as in the case of round wires by having the same cross sectional area as the round wire since the wide dimension is directed away from any adjacent bond locations or the like. In other words, the wire to wire clearance is improved by using the shaped wire.

  • Patent number: 6032851
Abstract: A vertical pipe column assembly procedure involves the simultaneous welding and ultrasonic testing activity by using a plurality of welders progressing peripherally around a joint with the ultrasonic testing work similarly progressing peripherally around the joint between the welders. The temperature rise from welding activity is reduced by only partially completing the weld at a selected joint, then lowering the joint by the usual process of lowering or driving it downward one section length and completing the weld deposit at a lower work station. At the lower work station, ultrasonic testing again proceeds simultaneously between the peripherally progressing welders. An optional step used to improve joint strength, usable at selected joints needing the most strength, involves the application of an axial pull on the section above the finish welding activity. This axial pull places an axial stress in the partially completed weld.

  • Patent number: 6032852
Abstract: A reworkable cold welded microelectronic multi-chip module contains cold welded microelectronic chips in which the chip's cold weld metal bonding pads (3) are constructed of a metal having one hardness and the corresponding cold weld metal bonding pads of the multi-chip module's substrate (5) are of a different greater hardness, which, despite the difference in hardness, cold weld to one another. Two forms of Indium preferably serve as the metals. If for any reason the chip must be removed from the module, it is found that the cold weld breaks at a predictable location. A new microelectronic chip may thereby be cold welded to the module substrate as a replacement. New rework and testing procedures are thereby made possible.
