  • Patent number: 6073277
Abstract: An economical hydrotherapy apparatus is provided for domestic use in conventional bathtubs. The apparatus includes a hydrotherapy chair and a relatively movable aerating pad, molded from plastic, that are placed in a bathtub for use with the seat of the chair at or near the surface of water in the bathtub. The aerating pad is spaced about eight inches below the surface of the water. An air compressor, located outside the bathtub, provides air that is delivered into the water from penetrations in the aerating pad. The introduction of compressed air at a depth of about eight inches creates therapeutic undulations of water against the seat and posterior of the user at the surface of the water.

  • Patent number: 6073288
Abstract: A training pillow to assist in teaching a person not to sleep face-down has base a portion for supporting the back of the head when lying face-up on a sleeping surface and two side portions which project substantially diagonally from the base portion and away from the sleeping surface. The pillow can make it awkward and/or uncomfortable for the person to sleep face-down and thereby arousing the person into a conscious state to remind the person not to sleep face-down. Additionally, flipping the pillow over will present an awkward and/or uncomfortable sleeping surface. However, when a person rolls to the side, the corresponding side of the person's head causes the appropriate side portion to move into contact with the sleeping surface, while the base portion and the opposite side portion are lifted away from the sleeping surface.

  • Patent number: 6073290
Abstract: A one piece air mattress suitable for use in health care settings to aid in prevention of bed sores has air cells permanently attached to a common base sheet along a base perimeter of each cell. The air cells and base sheet are of flexible radio frequency weldable plastic material, and all the air cells can be simultaneously welded to the base sheet in a single welding step using a special welding jig. Air supply conduits are defined by strips bonded to the base sheet in overlying relationship to orifices opening the supply conduits to the air cells, thereby eliminating the need for external air hoses and connections. An alternating pressure air mattress can be made by opening different air supply conduits to alternating sets of the air cells.

  • Patent number: 6073310
Abstract: Two hinge members are pivotally mounted about edges of a clamp. Thrust bearings are disposed in recesses in both hinge members for preventing relative movement between the hinge members along the clamp length. Antirotation portions of the bearings resist rotation of the bearings caused by torque produced by the hinge members on the bearings. In one embodiment, the clamp has a longitudinal key that is engaged within a keyway in the bearings that prevents bearing rotation. In another embodiment, the bearings have a longitudinal free extension on at least one side of a bearing body. The extensions increase the effective length of the bearings, limiting rotation. The extensions are preferably meshable with other bearings for transferring torque between adjacent bearings, or bearings may overlap the extensions. More preferably, the extensions are lockable to other bearings. The clamp may have notches extending between its walls and a clamp base such that the clamp base remains unaltered upon bending of the walls.

Abstract: A metal fitting for furniture, which can be installed without tools in a recess in a panel-shaped furniture part. The metal fitting for furniture has a holding part, at the upper, free edge of which a radially protruding flange is provided, which can be guided in contact with the outside of the furniture part, and is provided with a clamping element, which can be propped open by a handle in clamping contact with the wall of the recess. The clamping element is constructed as a hoop, which extends over a portion of the height and a portion of the periphery of the holding part and, in its extent, is adapted essentially to the contour of the recess. On both sides of the hoop, lever shoulders, which are linked at the flange or in the vicinity of the flange at the holding part so that they can be swiveled about a common axis, are provided.

  • Patent number: 6073312
Abstract: A D-shaped retaining spring couples a knob to a shaft. The spring has a flange abutting the end face of the knob to fix the spring position in a cavity of the knob. Alternatively, instead of the flange, the inner end of the spring abuts a shoulder in the cavity to fix the spring position. In either case, the inner end of the spring has a tab extending radially inward at a location spaced from the cavity end wall to define a stop for the end of the shaft thereby holding the knob where it can protrude from an instrument panel for normal operation. An axial impact force on the knob causes the tab to yield, allowing the knob to slide further onto the shaft and into the panel for the purpose of avoiding injury due to striking the knob during a crash.

  • Patent number: 6073313
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a web of non-woven fibrous material which is cross-linked in the carding step by means of an intermediate card. There is a main cylinder with two web forming rollers engaging the main cylinder, each taking off one card web. One of the web forming rollers is a random roller for producing a random orientation of the card web. The random roller has associated with it a trough plate with a space between the roller and plate. The space tapers toward the discharge end resulting in stuffing or compression on the web until the web exits to a free non-woven forming zone. Two card webs form a single web, which is taken off the card.

Abstract: A condensing zone is arranged downstream of the front roller pair of a drafting arrangement of a spinning machine, in which condensing zone a ready drafted fiber strand is condensed by means of rolling in the edge fibers before the yarn to be spun is imparted a twist. The condensing arrangement comprises a sliding surface having a suction slit extending essentially in a fiber strand transport direction, as well as a perforated transport belt which transports the fiber strand over the sliding surface and the suction slit. The sliding surface is the outer contour of a hollow profile, to which a suction device is connected. The transport belt consists of such a thin material that the fiber strand is disposed on the sliding surface and the suction slit at practically no distance thereto. The transport belt is preferably made from polyamide multifilament yarns.

Abstract: A clasp fastener having a clasp (1) is designed to be snapped into engagement by exerting a closing force. A locking device (4) for locking the clasp (1) is placed by the closing force in an engaged position in which it is in a first snap engagement with a locking projection (6), and a closing member (5) for closing the clasp (1) is fixed by the closing force in a safety position in which it is in a second snap engagement with the locking device (4) so that the snapping force of the first engagement of the clasp (1) with the locking projection (6) is increased. At least one variable-diameter pin (17,18) that is flexible and/or has different diameters allows some movement of the locking device (4), so that the effective closing force exerted on the locking projection (6) is reduced.
