  • Patent number: RE36847
Abstract: An improved automated self-cleaning litter box for cats, of the kind having a housing defining an upwardly open chamber for storage of a supply of cat litter, accessible to a cat and having path members on opposed side walls defining a comb path from one end of the chamber to the other. A comb, normally stored at the comb storage end of the chamber, is driven forward along the path to the discharge end of the chamber and back to its original storage position. As the comb traverses the chamber forwardly it engages any clumps of waste in the litter and carries them to a disposal receptacle at the discharge end of the chamber. The improvement includes a sensor for sensing the presence of a cat in the litter chamber; a photo electric sensor is preferred, but an infra red, weight, or even an audible sensor can be used. A delay device actuates the comb drive a predetermined time interval after the sensor ceases to sense the presence of a cat in the litter chamber.

  • Patent number: 6112335
Abstract: An improved foot actuated, anti-slamming, toilet seat raising and lowering device providing smooth operation during both phases. A foot-receiving lever is pivotally attached to a fulcrum which is floor mounted on preferred side of toilet. A lift lever and a hydraulic device are pivotally attached to the foot lever. A smooth rod extends upward out the top of hydraulic device, is bent at a right angle, bisects top of lift lever and pivotally attaches to a bracket mounted to bottom of toilet seat. As foot pressure is applied to the foot lever the lift lever is pushed upward raising the toilet seat and toilet cover, if down, toilet cover will assume its vertical resting position. The hydraulic device, having an internal stop, will arrest toilet seat lift at a point previous to perpendicular, preventing slamming. When foot pressure is removed from foot lever gravity affects toilet seat to descend. The hydraulic device dampens the descent providing reseating without slamming.

  • Patent number: 6112336
Abstract: An apparatus for manipulating a cover or lid between horizontal and upright positions. A foot-actuated device is connected by a first cable to a lift mechanism positioned about the lid's pivot. The first cable lies over the profile of an oblong cam in the lift mechanism. Pulling the first cable rotates the cam for rotating the lid. The cam's profile initially produces a large turning moment which compensates for the initially difficult lift and then smoothly decreases the turning moment to compensate for the decreasing force needed as the lid approaches the upright position. In the context of a toilet seat lid, it is convenient to incorporate an automatic lowering device. In upright position, a latch in the cam engages a trigger. The seat is spring-urged to close, restrained only by the latch and trigger. A second cable is float-actuated to disengage the trigger from the latch when the tank begins to refill after being flushed.

  • Patent number: 6112353
Abstract: A dock leveler lip extension mechanism includes a bellcrank pivotally mounted on the leveler ramp and connected to a pull chain, a pushrod for extending the lip and to a counterbalance spring assembly at spaced apart points on the bellcrank. The bellcrank is pivotally mounted on a compensating link connected to a member which is connected to the leveler frame. Upon raising the ramp to the inclined position, the pull chain rotates the bellcrank to extend the lip with the assistance of the counterbalance spring and the compensating link moves to maintain or increase the counterbalance spring force to compensate for changing lip extension force requirements. A lip latch includes a latch link pivotally mounted on a lip moment arm or on the underside of the leveler ramp and supporting a latch member which is yieldably biased into engagement with a latch pin when the lip is moved to the extended position to hold the lip in the extended position until it engages a vehicle loadbed.

  • Patent number: 6112354
Abstract: An improved suction powered cleaner is provided for vacuuming dirt and debris from submerged floor and side wall surfaces of a swimming pool. The cleaner comprises a head defining a suction inlet for vacuum inflow of water and debris into a plenum chamber, and further through a primary suction tube adapted for connection via a vacuum hose to a conventional pool water filtration system. An oscillatory main control valve is pivotally mounted at an upstream end of the primary suction tube and spring-loaded toward a normal open position relative to an annular valve seat. Suction flow through the primary suction tube draws the control valve toward a closed position substantially interrupting water flow, whereupon the control valve returns by spring action to the normal open position, resulting in pressure fluctuations which cause the cleaner to advance in steps over submerged pool surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6112358
Abstract: Disclosed is a mop having an elongate shaft, a mop element, and an operating member that is axially movable along a portion of the shaft between a range of mopping positions and a latch position. One end portion of the mop element is retained in a fixed position at one end of the shaft, the other end portion of the mop element is retained at one end of the operating member with an intermediate mopping portion formed into a bight. In accordance with the invention, the mop includes a latch mechanism for axially retaining the operating member in the latch position. The latch mechanism includes a detent portion and a shoulder portion. One portion is fixedly mounted to the shaft and the other is mounted on the operating member. Preferably, the mop is a twist mop wherein the operating member is relatively rotatable with respect to the shaft. More preferably, the mop includes a ratchet mechanism for releasably restricting relative rotation of the operating member and shaft to one direction of rotation.

Abstract: A broom for cleaning a surface having a bristle cleaning mechanism. The broom has a handle with a grasping end and a cleaning end. At the cleaning end is a comb member having a plurality of tines. The comb member pivots into and out of engagement with the bristles as a sleeve or handle is moved along the broom handle. The tines engage the bristles as the grasping portion is pushed downward such that the tines push trapped dirt and dust out from the bristle ends. As the slidable sleeve is pulled back into its original position, the tines disengage from the bristles and return to their original position.

  • Patent number: 6112362
Abstract: A brush is combined with a flexible netting that is placed over the brush bristles and pulled downward so that the netting is at the base of the bristles. The netting is flexible so that no guide is needed to place the netting at the base of the bristles. The netting has an outer periphery of elastic material so that the edge of the netting will be drawn around the back surface of the brush, holding the netting in place. The netting may have an opening through which the brush handle is extended, or securing straps may be used to loop around the back of the handle to help secure the netting in place. The straps may be secured together with, for example, snaps, a buckle, or a hook and loop fastener. The netting is removed to clean the brush and then is placed back on the brush to accumulate debris until the brush needs cleaning again. Replacement netting is inexpensive and may be used if a net becomes torn or unusable.
