  • Patent number: H1899
Abstract: A method for determining a concentration of IGF-I that defines a therapeutically effective dose of IGF-I, i.e., a dose that will provide a therapeutic response in the treatment of neurological disorders for which IGF-I is utilized (including peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, post-polio syndrome, small fiber neuropathy, ALS, and MS) is described. The method comprises determining whether a particular dose of IGF-I causes a 1.5 fold or greater increase in the homeostatic concentration of plasma IGFBP-2 in a mammal that has previously received a defined dose of IGF-I. The method of the invention can also be used to determine whether or not biological tolerance has developed to a particular dose of IGF-I.

  • Patent number: RE36893
Abstract: An anti-fuse structure formed in accordance with the present invention includes a conductive layer base. A layer of anti-fuse material overlies the conductive base layer. On top of the anti-fuse layer is an insulating layer, in which a via hole is formed to the anti-fuse layer. The lateral dimension of the via hole is less than about 0.8 microns. Provided in the via hole is a conductive non-Al plug including a conductive barrier material such as TiN or TiW to contact the anti-fuse material and overlie the insulating layer. Tungsten is effectively used as the non-Al plug. An electrically conductive layer is formed over the plug and is separaged from the anti-fuse layer by at least one-half the depth of the via hole. The structure is then programmable by application of a programming voltage and readable by application of a sensing voltage, which is lower than the programming voltage.

  • Patent number: RE36897
Abstract: A process for chill-treating, which is exemplified by a process for preparing a fermented malt beverage wherein brewing materials are mashed with water and the resulting mash is heated and wort separated therefrom. The wort is boiled cooled and fermented and the beer is subjected to a finishing stage, which includes aging, to produce the final beverage. The improvement comprises subjecting the beer to a cold stage comprising rapidly cooling the beer to a temperature of about its freezing point in such a manner that ice crystals are formed therein in only minimal amounts. The resulting cooled beer is then mixed for a short period of time with a beer slurry containing ice crystals, without any appreciable collateral increase in the amount of ice crystals in the resulting mixture. Finally, the so-treated beer is extracted from the mixture.

  • Patent number: RE36903
Abstract: Laser surgery is utilized to perform cosmetic surgery. A quartz fiber is used to direct the laser energy to the target area for the incision, division or resection of tissue. An endoscope may be utilized in conjunction with the quartz fiber to perform the cosmetic surgical techniques. One application utilizes laser energy to eliminate glabellar frown lines and/or forehead wrinkles. Another application employs laser energy to rectify brow descent. A further application uses laser energy to perform a neck lift. In yet another application, laser energy is utilized to reduce nasolabial folds. The use of laser energy in cosmetic surgical procedures greatly reduces the size of the incision required in the skin to perform cosmetic surgical procedures, and as a result greatly reduces the risks of potential complications.

  • Patent number: 6125474
Abstract: A water-cooled baseball cap is provided including a cap portion with a hemi-spherical configuration having a circular open bottom and a dome-shaped top. The cap portion includes a plurality of layers thereby defining an interior space. A bladder includes an upper layer and a lower layer both constructed from an elastomeric material. Such layers both define a hemi-spherical configuration having a circular open bottom and a dome-shaped top. The layers of the bladder are integrally coupled at bottom peripheral edges thereof thus defining a thin uniform spherical interior space. The bladder is situated within the interior space of the cap. The lower layer of the bladder has a plurality of minuscule apertures formed therein for allowing water situated within the bladder to flow onto the head of the user. A visor is mounted to bottom peripheral edges of the cap portion and extend radially outwardly therefrom for precluding light rays from shining on a face of the user.
