The apparatus includes a system for tracking motion of the particular body portion of interest, such as the head, a computer for receiving signals from the tracking system, and determining if undesired motion of the body portion has occurred and, if so, issuing a corrective signal which through a plurality of motors effects repositioning of the body portion to the desired location. This monitoring and repositioning may take place at a very high frequency. A particular contemplated use is immobilizing and positioning of the head during brain scans. An associated method is disclosed.

The end of the wrap is sealed together with the plastic film web and the plastic film web is cut off. In this way, it is easier to wrap the fabric roll, as is necessary for several hours of dwell time on the fabric roll.

    Abstract: A tension member is provided for use in erecting structures that has an elongated body with an outer wall defining an inner space. A tendon extends from one end of the body to the other within the defined inner space. The tendon has a tension force placed upon it. Concrete material is added to the inner space to form a concrete holding member which surrounds the tendon and which is in turn surrounded by the outer wall. The concrete holding member thus contacts the tendon and, upon curing, maintains the tension force placed upon the tendon. The tension member is placed in compression when the tension force is released from the tendon. In another aspect of the present invention, an arch member is provided for use as a compression member in a bridge. The arch member has an elongated arcuate body with an outer wall defining an inner space. The inner space of the body is filled with a concrete so that the body provides support for the concrete.

    Abstract: A rotary surface treatment tool is attached to a rotational driver with a kit. The surface treatment tool includes a base with a middle portion around a center hole, and one or more attachment knobs are placed on the front side of the middle portion. An attachment plate or retainer nut has a flange which extends radially over the middle portion of the base. The attachment knobs mate with holes in the flange of the retainer nut. The surface treatment tool is tightened onto the shaft by turning the surface treatment tool, with the attachment knob turning the retainer nut and thereby tightening the retainer nut to the threaded shaft. Assembly and tightening without any tools is thus facilitated. The base may be made of a flexible, shape-retaining material, and recesses are provided behind the attachment knobs to permit use with a retainer nut without a mating recess. The surface treatment tool may be a brush having bristles which extend at about 90.degree. to the plane of the base.

    Abstract: An earring includes a pin adapted to pass through a hole pierced in an ear or other body part. The pin has an enlarged, decorative end thereon which rests against one side of the ear with the pin extending through the hole in the ear, and a clutch which fits over the opposite end of the pin and rests against the opposite side of the ear to hold the earring therein. The clutch includes a spring for receiving the pin therein and having a reduced inside diameter intermediate turn thereof which is stretched by the pin as it passes therethrough. There is at least one circumferential receiving groove in the pin to receive and hold the reduced inside diameter spring turn. Thus, the clutch may be positioned so that the reduced inside diameter turn is received in one of the at least one grooves. This resists movement of the clutch along the pin. With multiple grooves the grooves are positioned along the pin so that for each groove, the earring comfortably fits a different size ear.

The insulated wire is fed through a curing station to allow curing of the additional insulation prior to winding the cured insulated wire into a coil. The timing of the resin application to the wire is coordinated with the winding of the coil so that the proper insulation thicknesses are achieved at the required locations in the coil.
