Patent number: 6223985Abstract: An access control system that incorporates a fail count that is decremented upon entrance of the correct PIN (or password) and incremented upon entrance of an incorrect PIN. Access to a system is denied until the fail counter is equal to one less than its reference value. It becomes increasingly difficult to exhaust over all the possible PINs because the correct PIN needs to be entered and re-entered repeatedly depending on the number of prior incorrect entries. Moreover, an unauthorized user receives no indication when a correct PIN is entered because the entity will not automatically unlock. The access control system can be used for protecting unauthorized access into any access-controlled entity such as bank accounts when a PIN is used in conjunction with a magnetic strip card, or an employee badge to control access to a controlled facility, or into any existing or future computer architectures.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Inventor: Bethany J. Patent number: 6224031Abstract: A tie includes an elongated strap with an end plate pivotally connected at each end of the strap, permitting the end plate to be pivoted from a position generally orthogonal to the strap, to a position generally parallel to the strap. Once an end plate is pivoted to a position parallel to the strap, the end plate can be pushed through a polystyrene form panel to project therefrom. The end plate is then pivoted to the position orthogonal to the strap, and pulled into engagement with the outward face of the form panel. The second end plate on the tie is pivoted, pushed through a second form panel, pivoted to the orthogonal position, and thence the second form panel is pulled outwardly into contact with the second end plate. In this way, the tie will interconnect a pair of parallel form panels in spaced apart position, to receive poured concrete therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Inventor: Patrick E. Patent number: 6224032Abstract: A valve for controlling fluids, which in order to be actuated, cooperates with a fluid-filled membrane actuator. A coupling chamber provided in the membrane actuator is sealed by two membranes as dividing walls. In order to compensate for fluid losses produced by pressure acting on the membrane actuator, a filling valve is provided, which is disposed in the region of one of the two membranes. A refilling of the membrane actuator during the closed phase of the control valve is assured by way of the filling valve. A filling of this kind can also compensate for length changes of the piezoelectric actuator, the valve, or the valve housing. The valve is designated for use in fuel injection devices for internal combustion engines of motor vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Roger Potschin, Friedrich Boecking
