Publication number: 20010054668Abstract: An aircraft 1 in the form of an aeroplane with a spiral inducing assembly 2 which is capable of inducing the aeroplane to travel in a continuous spiralling motion without rolling. Two fins 3 and 4 are attached to a tube 5 that is able to rotate around the encircled part of the fuselage. The fins 3, 4 are able to rotate in a pivoting manner on the rotatable tube 5 with respect to the rotatable tube 5, thereby changing their pitch relative to the longitudinal axis of the rotatable tube 5. Fin 3 is larger than fin 4. The diferene in sizes between the fins makes the larger fin 3 exert a greater force on the rotatable tube 4 than the smaller fin 4 when the fins are pitched in unison. The aerodynamic imbalance between the fins thus casues the rotatable tube 5 to rotate. When pitched at an angle to the longitudinal axis in unison, both fins 3, 4 would exert a lateral force on the rotatable tube 5. Thus, as well as forcing the rotatable tube 5 to rotate, the fins 3, 4 would also push the rotatable tube sideways.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventor: Tom Kusic

Publication number: 20010054680Abstract: In a process for the optical inspection of at least partially transparent containers in an inspection area with an illuminating device and a camera for producing images to be evaluated, the degree of transparency of each container is determined, and a light field is configured for this specific container. The light intensity of the light field and/or the imaging sensitivity is adapted to the determined degree of transparency, and the traveling light field is shifted through the inspection area in synchrony with the container. The system for implementing the process has an LED light screen with a plurality of LEDs, which can be activated individually or in groups, and a device upstream of the inspection area for measuring the individual degree of transparency of each container. These components are connected to a control unit, which produces the traveling light field for each container and shifts it in synchrony with the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventor: Peter Lindner

Publication number: 20010054681Abstract: An optical device includes, in a predetermined section of an optical fiber 1, a first functional part 7 having a plurality of Faraday crystal columns 5 that are parallel to each other and almost penetrating perpendicularly to an optical axis 2 of an optical fiber 1 through a core thereof, and a second functional part 8 having a plurality of holes 6 that are parallel to each other and almost penetrating perpendicularly to the optical axis 2 of the optical fiber 1 through the core thereof. A longitudinal direction of the Faraday crystal columns 5 and a longitudinal direction of the holes 6 form an angle of 45 degrees along a plane perpendicular to the optical axis 2. Thus, the optical device can be realized only by processing the optical fiber.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventor: Hidenobu Hamada

Publication number: 20010054683Abstract: In a radiation image read-out apparatus, a line stimulating light beam is projected onto a stimulable phosphor sheet, and stimulated emission emitted from the irradiated portion of the stimulable phosphor sheet is detected by a line sensor. A refractive index profile type lens array is disposed between the stimulable phosphor sheet and the line sensor. The photoelectric convertor elements of the line sensor and the refractive index profile type lenses of the refractive index profile type lens array are arranged at pitches such that the frequency band of the periodic pattern generated due to the pitches of the refractive index profile type lenses in said refractive index profile type lens array are higher than the frequency band of a radiation image information reproduced on the basis of the image signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventor: Katsuhiro Kohda

Publication number: 20010054684Abstract: The present invention relates generally to time-of-flight mass spectrometers and discloses an improved method and apparatus for analyzing ions using a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. More specifically, a means and method are described for the use of tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometry in conjunction with surface induced dissociation and pulsed ion extraction for fragmentation and analysis of selected sample ions. The concept essential to SID with PIE is that the kinetic energy of product and scattered ions can be correlated with their position at some time T after the collision event, and by using this relationship, one can reduce the distribution of either the kinetic energy of the ions or the arrival times of the ions at some position in the spectrometer. Ions are produced from sample material in an ion source and pulsed into the SID-PIE instrument. The packet of ions thus produced may or may not be mass analyzed before striking the SID surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 1998Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventor: MELVIN A. PARK

Publication number: 20010054685Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device which reduces the phase space volume of ions in an ion beam in such a way that their injection into a downstream time-of-flight mass spectrometer optimizes the performance of that spectrometer. The performance of the time-of-flight mass spectrometer, i.e. the sensitivity of the spectrometer, the temporal resolution for fast concentration changes of the examined substances, and particularly the mass resolving power, relates critically to the transmission of the ions.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventor: Jochen Franzen

Publication number: 20010054686Abstract: A detector apparatus and its use for cluster ion beam diagnostics are described. The detector has a Faraday cup with a conductance path to a gas pressure detector and a conductance to the detector exit. The detector acquires ion current, which is a measure of the ion beam flux, and also acquires mass flux, through a pressure measurement. The pressure measurement responds to the mass of dissociated gas clusters and is combined with information about instantaneous ion current to estimate mean gas cluster ion size ({overscore (N)}i).Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventors: Richard P. Publication number: 20010054687Abstract: A solution containing nonvolatile salts is pumped from a pump to an electrospray nebulization probe in the LC/MS interface, and spouted out from a tip of the probe into an atmospheric pressure environment in a form of fine liquid droplets having charges. The sample ions contained in the droplets are deflected by a deflector and enter into a mass analysis portion through an ion sampling aperture to be mass analyzed. On the other hand, the nonvolatile salts travel straight without being affected by the deflector, and collide against and are collected on a wall of a particle collector. The collected salts are precipitated in a form of crystals. The collected salts are washed away by spraying a particle washing solution from the washing nozzle. The above-described structure can provide an atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometer which can prevent effects of nonvolatile salts on the mass analysis without deteriorating the vacuum condition of the mass analysis portion by the preventing action.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Applicant: Hitachi, Ltd.,Inventor: Yoshiaki Kato
