  • Patent number: 6341466
Abstract: A new and useful clip is disclosed for securing an elongate member, or lather's channel, to a horizontal T-bar of a ceiling grid, conventionally used to form a drop ceiling. The clip comprises a body having a downwardly opening recess therein for permitting the body to be placed over the lather's channel, without removing the channel from the T-bar. The lather's channel is in a seated position in which the channel is received in the recess of the clip. The clip has clasps depending from the body configured so that as the body is moved toward its seated position, the clasps assume positions on opposite sides of the stem of the T-bar for clasping the T-bar and securing the clip to the T-bar. The clip further includes a spring finger formed integrally with the body. The finger is engageable with the lather's channel as the body is moved to its seated position.

  • Patent number: 6341478
Abstract: A mower includes a traction frame that supports at least one cutting unit and a grass catcher associated with each cutting unit. The cutting unit and grass catcher are both operatively coupled to the traction frame such that they both jointly are able to steer or yaw together during turns of the traction frame. This permits the gap between the cutting unit and a grass basket which is part of the grass catcher to remain constant whether the traction frame is travelling straight or is turning. This ensures that the grass clippings will be properly retained in the grass basket without dribbling out of the grass basket. In addition, a system is provided for keeping the grass catcher level as it is lifted up out of engagement with the ground into a raised, transport position, also to better retain the grass clippings within the grass basket.

  • Patent number: 6341493
Abstract: An HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) control and method for interpreting a broad range of input voltages generates a series of voltage pulses whose quantity increases with the amplitude of the input voltages. Upon counting the pulses or accumulating them across a capacitor, the control applies an algorithm to determine whether an input voltage should be interpreted as a logic-1 or a logic-0. The control can accept AC input voltages having nominal amplitudes of either 110 or 220-volts. • Patent number: 6341494
Abstract: An air conditioning system for vehicles includes a restriction control device that reduces the consumptive power of the air conditioning system by reducing the cooling ability of the air conditioning system when a cooling load of an interior of the vehicle has increased over a predetermined level, and when predetermined conditions are satisfied. In the system of the present invention, a water temperature sensor or a switch for detecting the opening of a roof window or a double sliding window is not necessary. In the present invention, under certain predetermined conditions, the power to an air conditioner may be appropriately restricted and the amount of heat radiation at the condenser may also be appropriately restricted. Consequently, the control may reduce waste power to prolong the life of equipment, and which may achieve an improved and comfortable air conditioning state, even when a roof window or a double sliding window is open.

  • Patent number: 6341496
Abstract: It is proposed to design a compression-type refrigeration system of a motor-vehicle air-conditioning unit having a supercritical process, with a compressor (6), driven by an electric motor (5) with motor-control device (12), a gas cooler (27), an expansion member (8) and an evaporator (9) and also connecting elements for a circulation of a refrigerant, in such a way that the heat loss of the motor and/or of the motor-control device is essentially dissipated to the refrigerant. In particular, the refrigerant may flow around the motor and/or the motor-control device. This results in especially efficient cooling of the components, as a result of which their heat loss is reduced at the same time. Furthermore, in order to achieve a high efficiency of the entire unit, provision is made for the superheating of the refrigerant at the inlet of the compressor to be kept at a virtually constant level by a controlled expansion member.

  • Patent number: 6341499
Abstract: With the proposed evaporative air-cooling system, we can achieve the reduction of the temperature of a space by making use of the natural characteristic of water to absorb heat during its vaporization from the body with which it is in contact. It comprises large wet surfaces created with a small mass of water within a limited space due to the activation of the molecular powers of water and of other material with molecular powers relevant to the ones of water. These wet surfaces are thin cloths, made of cotton or other material with features similar to that of cotton, impregnated with water in a controlled manner so that they can be kept wet at all times. These moistened cloths (12) are placed on bodies (G2) inside which the air of the space to be cooled circulates. Thus, when a vaporization is effected from the wet surfaces into the free atmosphere, heat is absorbed by these bodies producing a “vaporization cold” inside them.

The water line (2) enters the manifold (4) and water flows through and exits through pipe (6) which surrounds the beverage pipe (1). Adjacent the tap (5), the water flows out of the coaxial pipe (6) and down return pipe (7) which connects into the manifold (4) at connection point (8). The water flows out of the manifold (4) through pipe (9). A bypass pipe (10) is provided in the manifold (4). This allows narrower gauge pipes to be used in the cooling loop without throttling the is flow of water through the Python. A valve (11) is provided in the bypass pipe (10) allowing the flow through the bypass pipe (10) to be reduced or shut off, so that all the flow through inlet pipe (2) is directed through the cooling loop, to remove airlocks.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for terminating the end of an optical fiber. In particular the present invention relates to a method for forming a low reflectance termination on an end of an optical fiber. The method including the step of tensioning the optical fiber between two spaced apart points thereon. The method further including the step of moving a ball termination torch from a given location in a given direction with respect to the fiber such that a potion of the flame therefrom intercepts the fiber and severs the fiber into two pieces each having a tapered end. The method further includes the steps of retracting at least one of the tapered ends a predetermined distance in a direction away from the other of the tapered ends and continuing to move the torch such that the flame heats the at least one of the tapered ends to cause it to become shortened.

Abstract: Changing the locking mechanism in a U-lock, cable lock or other tie lock as often as desired is achieved without compromising the lock's resistance to physical damage. This function is achieved by an auxiliary sleeve that removably fits over the U-lock's crossbar or the cable lock's end bar. Either bar provides an aperture, which is too small to permit the locking mechanism to be picked or pried, but which is operatively positioned and sufficiently large to provide access for a key to the keyway of the locking mechanism.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming two plates into a hollow workpiece has a pair of dies having edge regions adapted to be pressed together against outer peripheries of the plates. An outer element in the edge region of one of the dies is adapted to rotate therein about an axis generally parallel to the direction and an inner element set in the outer element is rotatable therein about an axis generally parallel to and offset from the outer-element axis. The inner element is formed offset from its axis with an axially throughgoing feed passage aligned with a feed hole in the plate engaging the one die. A fluid forced under pressure through the passage and hole into a space between the plates deforms the plates away from each other in the direction while displacing the hole perpendicular to the direction with movement of the passage perpendicular to the direction.
