Abstract: A new and distinct cultivar of crabapple (Malus×domestica) was created during the course of a plant breeding and selection program for the development of improved crabapple cultivars with persistent winter fruit and good disease resistance. Attractive glossy bright to dark red ornamental fruits are formed that commonly persist with minimal shrinkage into February of the following year. The overall growth habit is compact and upright and yields a tree having a pleasing pyramidal-spreading configuration. Good Good winter hardiness is provided combined with resistance to apple scab, apple mildew, fireblight and cedar-apple rust.
Abstract: A distinct cultivar of Rose plant named ‘Bapollu’, characterized by its upright stems with rounded to pyramidal display of dark red hips; thornless stems; very long postproduction longevity, cut stems with hips typically last at least 90 days; and resistance to Powdery Mildew.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Hybrid Tea rose plant is provided which forms attractive double blossoms that are pale pink bordered with pink depending on the season. Such blossoms possess no fragrance. The plant exhibits an erect growth habit, dark green and semi-glossy foliage, and very good disease resistance. The new variety is particularly well suited for producing cut flowers under greenhouse growing conditions.
Abstract: This invention relates generally to the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems for generating diagnostic images of a patient's internal organs and more particularly, this invention relates to improved MRI systems with decreased interference between the magnetic field used for producing diagnostic images and the magnetic fields generated by the electric motors used for driving the pistons of the contrast media injectors. Additionally, the system employs an improved communication link between an externally located system controller and the injection head control unit located within the electromagnetic isolation barrier which defines the magnetic imaging room.

Abstract: A gas compressor is provided comprising a chamber (9) to contain gas to be compressed, a piston (12) and the chamber (9) and an apparatus to drive the piston into the chamber (9) to compress the gas. The compressor also comprises another apparatus (5) to form a spray of liquid in the chamber (9) to cool the gas on compression therein, so that the gas may be compressed approximately isothermally. Valve (17) are provided to allow compressed gas to be drawn from the chamber. The apparatus to drive the piston (12) comprises another apparatus to deliver driving energy stored in the fluid directly to the piston. In one embodiment, the driving energy is provided by a combustible fuel. The heat of compression is rejected at the lowest temperatures and the hot exhaust gas from the combustion process may be used to preheat the isothermally compressed gas.
Abstract: A variable engine valve control system wherein each of the reciprocating intake and/or exhaust valves is hydraulically controlled and includes a piston subjected to fluid pressure acting on surfaces at both ends of the piston. The space at one end of the piston is connected to a source of high pressure fluid while the space at the other end is connected to a source of high pressure fluid and a source of low pressure fluid, and disconnected from each through action of controlling means such as solenoid valves. The controlling means may include a rotary hydraulic distributor coupled with each solenoid valve, thereby permitting each solenoid valve to control operation of a plurality of engine valves in succession.

Abstract: The filing of an internally coated capillary with a gel in its polymerized state without damaging the gel. The coating prevents bonding of the gel to the inside of the capillary. The gel comprises up to 6% acrylamide and 0-5% crosslinker. The gel can be advantageously and conveniently used in automated electrophoresis systems for automatic replacement of spent gel.
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for monitoring and controlling a resistance projection welder for welding a projection weld nut to a workpiece. A displacement sensor measures the displacement of a welding electrode of a weld gun in real time during the welding procedure. A computer is coupled to the displacement sensor and determines whether the projection weld nut is correctly loaded between the workpiece and the welding electrode. The computer instructs a programmable logic controller (PLC) to trigger a weld controller to apply power to the welding electrode if the projection weld nut is correctly loaded onto the workpiece. The computer instructs the PLC to inhibit power if it determines the projection weld nut to be inverted, missing, or misaligned in order to allow for the removal and replacement of the projection weld nut.
Abstract: A plasma arc torch having new electronic circuit concepts wherein main current regulated power means regulates the pilot current prior to main arc transfer. Further, the circuit may contain two inductors to which DC current initially flows but is interrupted upon main arc transfer such that one inductor maintains the pilot arc while the current in the second inductor forces the establishment of the transferred arc. Also, advantages are presented in pulsing the cutting arc as well as pulsing the pilot arc.
Abstract: A switching voltage regulator achieves high efficiency by automatically switching between a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode and a pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode. Switching between the modes of voltage regulation is accomplished by monitoring the output voltage and the output current, wherein the regulator operates in PFM mode at small output currents and in PWM mode at moderate to large output currents. PFM mode maintains a constant output voltage by forcing the switching device to skip cycles when the output voltage exceeds its nominal value. In PWM mode, a PWM signal having a variable duty cycle controls the switching device. A constant output voltage is maintained by feedback circuitry which alters the duty cycle of the PWM signal according to fluctuations in the output voltage.
