Abstract: A machine for configuring the winding head of a stator for a rotary electrical machine, which includes U-shaped conductors which are inserted axially into axial slots in the stator body, is of the type comprising a support body together with concentric tubular sleeves. The lower axial end part of each sleeve includes gripping means. The gripping means of each sleeve consist of a set of gripping slots, each of which has a right angled profile in circumferential and axial cross section. Each of these slots receives the free end portion of one conductor, so that rotation of a sleeve produces a single bend at the open end of the axial slot for each conductor in the associated layer of conductors in the stator.

Abstract: A soft magnetism metal powder having a majority of particles, each of which, when cross-sectioned, has no greater than ten crystal particles on average, may be coated on an outer surface of each of the particles with a resistive material having a higher resistivity than the underlying parent phase. The soft magnetism metal powder may be prepared by heating a soft magnetism metal powder to a high temperature in a high temperature atmosphere, thereby reducing the number of crystal particles in each of the soft magnetism metal powder particles. A soft magnetism metal formed body may be prepared by pressing the soft magnetism metal particles at a sufficient temperature and pressure.

Abstract: Methods of fabricating a free standing thin film of shape memory alloy material, and products made by the methods. A sacrificial layer of a metallic material is deposited onto the surface of a substrate. Then an amorphous shape memory alloy is sputter deposited onto the outer surface of the sacrificial layer. The sacrificial layer is etched away, leaving the thin film free standing, that is separated from the substrate. The thin film is annealed by heating into a crystalline state, with the annealing step carried out either after the film has been separated from the substrate, or while remaining attached to it.

  • Publication number: 20020046784
Abstract: This disclosure sets out a method of forming a protective layer on the surface of the material of drill bits to increase the number of hits when drilling very small holes such as those drilled in printed circuit board (PCB's). The process involves forming a phosphorous based solution which is used as a dip to treat the drill bits, and then it is heated to drive off the solvent which is primarily water, oil, or glycol. This leaves a protective layer featuring phosphorous based materials on the surface of drill bit. This works for tool steel drill bits and also for those made with a cobalt alloy holding together tungsten carbide particles. The method preferably includes applying a treatment fluid in lieu of cutting oil during the fabrication of the cutting tool, the fluid including a compound containing phosphorus and nitrogen/hydrogen groups.

Abstract: The present invention is to obtain a Ti—Zn—Mn—V—Fe based hydrogen storage alloy having the excellent hydrogen absorbing and discharging performance at a low cost. An alloy represented by the general formula: Ti1−xZrxMnw−y−zVyFez (wherein 0≦x≦0.5, 0<y≦0.6, 0<z≦0.2, and 1.8≦w≦2.2) is produced using a ferrovanadium (alloy of a V and an Fe) as one of the raw materials. The oxygen content of the alloy is limited to 5,000 ppm or less. A hydrogen storage alloy having the excellent hydrogen absorbing and discharging performance can be produced using an inexpensive ferrovanadium. Furthermore, an impurity oxygen, which adversely effect the performance, can be limited easily.

Abstract: A headrail for a double shade has a modular construction in which a portion of the headrail holds a roller shade and a second portion holds a pleated shade and the two portions are separable from one another. In one embodiment the portion that supports the pleated shade is configured to hold a conventional headrail of a pleated shade. In another embodiment a front assembly supports a pleated shade and contains a base and a curved front wall attached to and extending over the base. A semicircular wall extends between end caps that hold a roller shade. The semicircular wall has a slot that receives a tab on the front wall of the front assembly. A bracket has a top leg with a hook that engages a tab on the semicircular wall and a shoulder on a side leg that carries the rear edge of the semicircular wall. A spring extends from the side leg of the bracket to the front wall retaining the tab on the front wall within the hook on rear wall.

Abstract: A drive and control system for controlling the movement of a pool cover comprised of interconnected rigid buoyant slats. The system relies upon a hydraulic drive section including a hydraulic motor drive which may be initially provided with fluid under pressure by a remote electric drive section. The hydraulic drive section is also provided with an effective means of controlling movement of the pool cover, both in a winding direction on a cover drum, which may be submerged, and/or in an unwinding direction where the pool cover is being unwound from the drum. Various mechanisms to control the movement of the cover are described herein.

Abstract: A method for obtaining particulate calcium carbonate having an average particle size less than about 12 microns is provided. The method includes the steps of (1) withdrawing from a pulp mill a mixture containing calcium carbonate; (2) treating the mixture to remove contaminants contained in the mixture to produce a treated mixture containing calcium carbonate and further having a chemical composition and/or purity which substantially inhibits the fusing together of calcium carbonate particulates; (3) recovering from the treated mixture particulate calcium carbonate having an average particle size less than about 12 microns. The calcium carbonate produced has a high surface area to volume ratio and is therefore highly reactive and suitable for numerous applications such as in the treatment of soil, filler paper production, paint production, and contaminant containment in coal stack emission assemblies.

Abstract: A vented lead blade for use in a paper making machine located so that the stock jet impinges the forming fabric at, or near to, its trailing edge. The vented lead blade serves to bend the forming fabric before it enters the forming section, and to vent at least a substantial proportion of any air which becomes trapped in the wedge shaped space between the surface of the forming fabric and the surface of the stock jet, together with at least some of any liquid carried with the air. The vented lead blade of this invention thus enables the forming fabric to be positioned so that the angle of impingement of the stock jet onto the forming fabric can be minimized to become substantially zero. It also makes it possible to reduce the unsupported length of the stock jet. The vented lead blade of this invention can be used in both an open surface forming section with one forming fabric, or in the forming section of a two fabric paper making machine.

Abstract: An improved method for forming cores to be utilized in a loss core plastic molding process includes the use of a flow meter. The flow meter ensures that sufficient molten metal is delivered into a cavity for the loss core elements. In this way, the present invention eliminates the occurrence of gaps, spaces or cavities in the molded loss core part. Most preferably a magnetic flow meter is utilized which can monitor the amount of molten metal having flown through the flow meter.
