  • Patent number: 6427357
Abstract: A marking device for a CNC machine tool or the like comprises a tubular body capped at either end with top and bottom plates. A main shaft extends down through the top plate along the central axis of the body, and is rotatably held in place by upper and lower bearings. A cylindrical cam having one or more cam lobes disposed on an underside thereof is attached to the main shaft within the body. A guide extends through the bottom plate and slidably supports a spring-biased stylus, an upper, anvil end of which normally tracks along the underside of the cam, and a lower, marking point end of which normally lies just within the guide. When the main shaft is rotated, e.g., by being operably connected to the machine tool's spindle, the cam also rotates, causing the cam lobes to strike the anvil and drive the stylus axially downwards through the guide and into a part or work piece. To create a complex pattern, the machine tool sets the spindle to rotate at a constant rate.

  • Patent number: 6427359
Abstract: Workpieces requiring low levels of contamination, such as semiconductor wafers, are loaded into a workpiece support or holder within a process chamber. The process chamber has a drain opening, slot or edge. The chamber is closed via a door. A process or rinsing liquid is introduced into the chamber. The liquid rises to a level so that the workpieces are immersed in the liquid. The chamber slowly pivots or rotates to move the drain opening down to the level of the liquid. The liquid drains out through the drain opening. The drain opening is kept near the surface of the liquid to drain off liquid at a uniform rate. An organic solvent vapor is introduced above the liquid to reduce or prevent droplets of liquid from remaining on the workpieces as the liquid drains off. An outer chamber may be provided around the process chamber to provide increased control of the process environment.

  • Patent number: 6427387
Abstract: A removable mullion assembly comprises a fitting attached in the door opening for receiving an end of the mullion. The fitting houses a locking mechanism for selectively holding the mullion in place in the fitting. The locking mechanism comprises a latch bolt which in an extended position engages the end of the mullion and secures the mullion in the fitting. A key-operated mechanism, such as a cylinder lock, is operatively connected to the bolt for moving the latch bolt to the retracted position in response to turning the key in the cylinder. An actuating element is also provided which is activated by the end of the mullion as the mullion enters the retaining element for moving the bolt to the retracted position. The locking mechanism may further comprise a blocking element to block movement of the latch bolt from the extended position.

A first display screen is disposed on the interior side of the door partition for individual viewing from inside the workspace. A second display screen is disposed exterior of the sidewall partition and positioned a spaced apart distance in general alignment therewith, without substantial interference with user ingress and egress through the portal opening. A video device is positioned overhead in optical communication with the first display screen when the door partition is in its fully closed position to support individual activities. The video device is in optical communication through the portal opening with the second display screen when the door partition is in its fully open position to support group activities. An image on the second display screen can be viewed on either the interior or exterior screen surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6427390
Abstract: A foundation flashing comprises a horizontal member adapted to rest atop the upper surface of a foundation between the upper surface and a frame of the building supported atop the foundation, and a vertical member joined to the horizontal member. At least a portion of the vertical member is adapted to lie against a surface of exterior sheathing that is affixed to the frame of the building. A sheathing locator projects generally horizontally from the vertical member, the sheathing locator being positioned to be abutted by a bottom edge of the sheathing when the sheathing is affixed to the frame. The flashing in one embodiment is disposed between the sheathing and the frame of the building, the sheathing locator projecting outwardly from an outer surface of the flashing.

Abstract: A device and method for mounting an exterior cantilevered beam to a building holds the exterior cantilevered beam away from the building and provides superior waterproofing. In some embodiments, a strap member is used to spread loading forces onto interior building support members that are arranged perpendicular to an exterior wall of the building. In other embodiments of the invention, mounting members that include necks extending through exterior walls and away from the walls are used to mount an exterior cantilevered beam to the building, and to keep the exterior beam supported away from the exterior wall.

  • Patent number: 6427392
Abstract: The invention comprises the insertion of anchors into suitably located wall cavities, each anchor being suspended by cables extending up through the wall top and into the roof space; then making fast each anchor by the injection into the cavity above the anchor of a hardening, adhering liquid “plug” of sufficient size and strength, pressing down upon the anchor and strongly adhering to the confining internal surfaces of the cavity. Especially in cases where there are no wall cavities, or none readily accessible, the invention encompasses anchoring the roof to or through the exterior surfaces of suitably located walls by means of long vertical straps; these extend up through the ceiling sufficiently into the roof space, taking the place of the cavity anchors and cables.

  • Patent number: 6427393
Abstract: A structural steel seismic-resistant beam-to-column connection is provided with a pair of rib plates installed symmetrically above and below the connection. The rib plates are perpendicularly to an upper and a lower beam flange and disposed at positions corresponding to the center of the beam web. The rib has a variable cross section at its front end and a relatively lower lengthened section at its rear end. Through the use of the rib plate, the stress concentration at those fan type weld access holes of the beam web as well as the junction of the full penetration weld between the beam flange and column flange can be alleviated, and the plastic hinge can be limited to the beam at a specified portion and can develop excellent plastic rotation capacity in the case of a severe earthquake.

  • Patent number: 6427394
Abstract: The invention concerns glazing sheets with variable absorbing power. The glazing comprises two transparent walls providing an inter-wall space containing one of the two following fluids: either a first transparent fluid, such as air; or a second transparent fluid, absorbing solar energy over a very large part of the spectrum, in particular liquid water or liquid water with added alcohol. The glazing further compromises a circuit for discharging energy in the form of a bead, located at its periphery, preferably consisting of a heat pip-exchanger. The glazing also comprises an apparatus for filling up or emptying the inter-wall space, as well as flexible elements for absorbing the second fluid expansion depending on temperature. The glazing can in particular be used for producing car windows.

The member may include an elongated support formed as a relatively rigid extrusion of plastic material having a base plate with upstanding side walls and a central support portion, the top plate overlying the support and having edge formations engaging the side walls. Alternatively, the top plate and support may be formed integrally by extrusion, or the top plate may be part of a plank cover having integrally formed ribs for spacing the top plate above a plank.
