Abstract: Methods for accurate transmission of ELIN/callback number from an emergency caller calling from behind a PBX/MLTS include assigning a port equipment number to each device/trunk of the PBX/MLTS and associating ports/devices with ELINs and callback numbers. The apparatus of the invention detects an emergency number, assigns the call priority, and uses the port/device number to determine the ELIN/callback number and properly transmit the ELIN/callback number.

Abstract: When a caller calls a called party through an information assistance system, the caller is afforded an option to leave a message for the called party in the event that the call cannot be successfully completed. When the called party receives the message from the information assistance system through a subsequent telephone connection, the called party is afforded an option to call the caller back, without first terminating the connection. In accordance with the invention, the caller may leave the same message for not only the destination number being called, but also other telephone numbers desired by the caller. The inventive message delivery service may also be utilized to perform a wake-up call function, an event reminder function, etc., in accordance with various aspects of the invention.

A communication system includes a gateway that receives a signal to establish a call with a called station from a calling station in a telephone network (such as a Class 3 network) associated with one of a plurality of customers. The gateway generates a message according to a prescribed application layer protocol to establish the call with the called station over the data network. The message includes an alias host address identifying the one customer. The system also includes a server that receives the message from the gateway and to route the call to the called station based upon the alias host address.

The SCP determines whether to route the call through a private trunk group from a host switch to a private facility, and through an alternative trunk group when the private trunk group is unavailable. The SCP determines whether the call is eligible for discounted billing and generates a billing record, which is modified by a service switching point to indicate the discount. The SCP also samples calling data from service switching points and transmits the sampled data to a front end processor for formatting into station message detail recording (SMDR) data.

Abstract: Electronic commerce is enhanced through the use of the state-based management capability of the public telephony infrastructure, adapted for use in Internet and other network transactions. A telephony engine such as the Nortel Networks DMS™ switching platform is configured to initiate, process and terminate electronic transactions such as consumer Web purchase, rather than the telephone events for which such hardware was designed. The transaction engine may, for instance, detect, time and record billing for the logging of a Internet user on to a game site, video download or other service or product. Once a transaction has entered its termination state, analogous to the hanging up of a telephone call, a billing record is generated which is transmitted through the usual billing services of the telephony network. Consumers may therefore locate and pay for a variety of services on the Internet and other networks while relying on the convenience of regular monthly telephone billing.

Abstract: A billing method and system include discounting a customer's billing for telephone calls completed in a wide area centrex/PBX network, which includes an abbreviated dialing plan. A service control point (SCP) determines a call type code based upon a calling station and a called station of a telephone call. The SCP determines whether the call type code is eligible for discounted billing. When the call type code is eligible, the SCP generates a unique billing record that is forwarded to a service switching point (SSP). The SSP receives the forwarded unique billing record and modifies the billing record to indicate that a discount should be applied to the billing for the call when the call is completed. When the SSP does not receive the unique billing record, it creates a normal billing record.

Abstract: System and method for providing advertisements to a telephony device. The advertisements are presented by an advertisement server which stores the advertisements, manages their presentation through the device, and provides for reduction or elimination of charges for telecommunication services delivered through the device. The advertisements may be presented to the user upon activation of the device and may include a recorded message promoting products, stores, sales, or public services, after which the user places the telephone call at reduced or no charge. Alternately, when the user initiates a telephone connection to place a call, a charge option message is presented providing the user with an option to listen to an advertisement before placing the call. If the user declines the option, the call is placed at normal cost, otherwise, an advertisement is presented to the user, after which the user places the call at a reduced or no cost.

Abstract: The present invention is a telephone memory aid that is focused on how to capture information during a telephone call and allow entry of information by the user or other party into a database that may be used in future calls. In future calls, the telephone memory aid would allow the user to call or be called by a desired second party and see all of the stored personal information related to the second party. This might include name, date of last call, topics that were discussed in the last telephone call, names of family members, vacation plans, hobbies, and similar such information. The purpose is to improve the conversation flow and communications between the parties of the telephone call.

Abstract: A method and system include restricting destinations of a telephone call from a calling station, which has been assigned a privilege class. A service control point (SCP) stores blocking tables, based on privilege classes, and a privilege class control table, which associates the blocking tables with each privilege class. The SCP ascertains the assigned privilege class of the calling station and determines whether the telephone call corresponds to one of the types of blocking tables. When the telephone call does correspond, the SCP determines whether the assigned privilege class corresponds to the blocking table that corresponds to the attempted call. When there is no privilege class correspondence, the SCP bypasses validation of the called number. When there is privilege class correspondence, the SCP validates the called number and blocks the call when the called number is validated or continues call processing when the called number is not validated.

Abstract: A one number, multi-application, intelligent call processing system provides service benefits to a caller, a servicing location and/or a vanity number advertiser during a call, parallel to the call and/or post call in an integrated common architecture. The system utilizes VRU technology in conjunction with the national telecommunications network connected via Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) to a virtual telephone number database containing a nationwide master list of telephone numbers with attribute data items associated by Spatial Key linkage to each telephone number. The process of the invention is initiated by a caller dialing a selected telephone number to request information and/or services. Based on the number dialed, a caller or network provided ten-digit telephone number and VRU prompted for and received caller input, the system retrieves the application requested data from the virtual telephone number database and provides it to the network.

Abstract: A method for managing of a plurality of extension communication units in a cellular communication system by a directory and conference call decision process. A subscriber telephone number directory identifies those extension communication units which will receive the call. A conference call decision process allows the subscribers, rather than the system, to determine who will take the call. All subscribers have the same priority for answering the call and minimum resources are utilized to reach the correct extension communication unit.

Abstract: A method of providing media content, such as music and video, to callers on hold involves the generation of the media content locally in the environment of the held caller, rather than the transmission of the content over the network. The local call server of the held caller is signalled when the call has been placed on hold by the server which has placed the call on hold. The caller's server then activates a music-on-hold server (or other media content generator) to provide the media content directly to the caller's telephony terminal. The advantage of this is that the media content is not transmitted across the network, allowing a higher bandwidth to be used locally for the media content without utilising wide area network resources. This results also in the media content being provided in a higher quality format to the caller, avoiding the loss of quality associated with transmitting music using compressive voice codecs over packet-based networks.

Abstract: A telephony network includes a number of switches that are coupled by respective trunk sets. In one or more of the switches, both a main queue storing identifiers of trunks that are available and a shadow queue are maintained. The shadow queue is used to store identifiers of available trunks in an order that tracks the order of a corresponding queue in a switch on the other end of the trunk set. By using both the contents of the main queue and the shadow queue to perform selection, trunk glare can be reduced.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an internet address system formed by introducing E.164 number system of the ITU-T or a zip code system to IPv6 address system, and a hierarchical routing method using the same. Thus, a user can easily find an IPv6 address of a user terminal by his/her telephone number. It is also possible to assign the IPv6 addresses relating to about twenty million telephone numbers in the country. The telephone numbers can be well linked to the IPv6 addresses, so that an internet provider can easily design and assign the IPv6 addresses. In addition, a hierarchical routing process is carried out by using the E.164 number system, thereby reducing a routing time and improving a routing speed. Moreover, it is easy to find out the internet address of the user terminal by the subscriber address. The subscriber address can also be found out by the internet address of the subscriber.

Abstract: A method and system include routing telephone calls from multiple private networks via public lines and trunks in a public switched telephone network (PSTN) to a host switch, at which the connections would begin to run parallel. The host switch routes the telephone calls via a private trunk group to a private facility, such as an electronic tandem network (ETN) node or an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch. If the private trunk group is full or unavailable, the host switch routes the telephone calls over alternate private or public trunk groups and selected carriers.

Abstract: A method and system for generating customer reports based on station message detail recording (SMDR) data includes a service control point (SCP) in a public switched telecommunications network (PSTN). The service control point samples calling data from multiple service switching points for calls originating from a private customer network, including centrex and PBX systems. The service control point interfaces with a front end processor and transmits the calling data. The front end processor formats the calling data into SMDR data, which is transmitted to a host central processing unit. The host generates reports regarding the SMDR calling data, the reports being accessible by a customer via a connection to a private customer network.

Abstract: A signal coupler is provided which decreases the number of discreet elements required to provide low pass filtering for the plain old telephone service (POTS). The low pass filtering is shifted to areas of the signal coupler circuit which do not operate with the high battery voltage present on telephone lines. The low voltage filtering reduces the need for components, which are capable of operating in the high voltage environment and therefore reduces the space on the circuit board, which is occupied by each of the signal couplers. In this way, the number of individual subscriber lines that a given circuit board can accommodate can be increased.

The multi-stage surge protector/isolation barrier includes a first stage and a second stage. The first stage is operative to limit or clamp incoming voltage to a pre-defined level. In one form, the voltage limiting or clamping state includes a spark gap and over-voltage/over-current protector. The second stage is operative to limit or dissipate transients developed by the first stage. In one form, the transient limiting or dissipating stage includes transient filter circuitry. The transient filter circuitry may be implemented as LC filter circuitry. The subject multi-stage surge protector/isolation barrier helps prevent damage to the telephony device caused by voltage surges in the telephone network.

The connectors include contacts electrically connected to termination posts that extend through the circuit board such that ends of the termination posts are exposed. A plurality of splitters are connected to the circuit board for splitting composite signals into voice and data signals. The circuit board includes conductive paths for directing composite signals from the line connector to the splitters, for directing voice signals from the splitters to the voice connectors, and for directing data signals from the splitters to the data connectors. Dielectric insulator members are connected to the circuit board to cover the exposed ends of the termination posts.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and systems for identifying crosstalk interference in xDSL systems are disclosed and are useful in a variety of xDSL systems to assist in the provisioning, maintenance and diagnosis of the xDSL system and in spectral management and assignments. Signal data are collected from a receiver, a primary transmitter and any crosstalk transmitters. The signal data are resampled, if necessary. A first estimate of the timing offset between the received signal and each crosstalk signal is then obtained by cross-correlating the received data with the transmitted crosstalk data. The first timing offset estimate is then used in connection with a least-squares estimation of the crosstalk response for the considered crosstalk data and a second estimate of the timing offset. The invention may be used at a third party site remote from the system transmitters and receivers. The crosstalk identification of the present invention can be used in dynamic spectrum management for DSL services and signals.

The resilient sealing gasket provides a channel for transferring said audio signal from said one or more apertures to the sound passage through the housing wall. The housing parts has an inclined wall part that transfers a biasing force originating from the two housing parts and acting on the acoustic transducer body to a force acting on the resilient sealing gasket in order to provide a sealing between the resilient sealing gasket and the sound passage through the housing wall.

A second user also can authenticate the identity of a first user. A challenge communication that includes selection of a challenge m in the ring R is generated by the second user. A response communication that includes computation of a response s in the ring R, where s is a function of m and f, is generated by the first user.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an arithmetic processor comprising: an arithmetic logic unit having a plurality of arithmetic circuits each for performing a group of associated arithmetic operations, such as finite field operations, or modular integer operations. The arithmetic logic unit has an operand input data bus, for receiving operand data thereon and a result data output bus for returning the results of the arithmetic operations thereon. A register file is coupled to the operand data bus and the result data bus. The register file is shared by the plurality of arithmetic circuits. Further a controller is coupled to the ALU and the register file, the controller selecting one of the plurality of arithmetic circuits in response to a mode control signal requesting an arithmetic operation and for controlling data access between the register file and the ALU and whereby the register file is shared by the arithmetic circuits.

The encryption system is operable at encryption rates in excess of 10 Mbps and is expandable to over 200 Mpbs. For encryption, plain characters are received, and a key block (120) includes key characters corresponding to the plain characters is accessed. A current key character corresponding to a current plain character is located. A next key character corresponding to a next plain character is located. An offset between the current key character and the next key character is determined to encrypt the plain characters. Aliases are used to facilitate the encryption and decryption. Vector distances of offsets are utilized for the encryption and decryption, using many variables and many dimensions, such as using coordinates.

Abstract: An anti-theft system for a portable recordable media that contains a downloadable, user-sensitive software program files or data that the publisher wants to prevent multi-installations and unauthorized copying. The system uses three separate components—a portable recordable media, a linking object, and a second recordable media. Abstract: Access to digital data is controlled by encrypting the data in such a manner that, in a single digital data acquisition step, it can be decrypted only at a specified location, within a specific time frame, and with a secret key. Data encrypted in such a manner is said to be geo-encrypted. This geo-encryption process comprises a method in which plaintext data is first encrypted using a data encrypting key that is generated at the time of encryption. The data encrypting key is then encrypted (or locked) using a key encrypting key and information derived from the location of the intended receiver. The encrypted data encrypting key is then transmitted to the receiver along with the ciphertext data. The receiver both must be at the correct location and must have a copy of the corresponding key decrypting key in order to derive the location information and decrypt the data encrypting key. After the data encrypting key is decrypted (or unlocked), it is used to decrypt the ciphertext.

Abstract: The method is based on symmetrical encryption algorithms of variable length blocks, supported by a Pseudo-noise Sequence Generator based in its turn in one (or two) linear sequence generators (LFSR with a primitive polynomial). Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing ephemeral communication and assuring that an ephemeral decryption key is not accessible subsequent to an expiration time associated with the respective key. An ephemeral key pair is preferably generated within a tamper resistant cryptographic processor unit. The ephemeral key pair comprises and ephemeral encryption key and an ephemeral decryption key. The ephemeral decryption key is prevented from being accessed external of the tamper resistant cryptographic processor unit. Ephemeral messages encrypted using an ephemeral encryption key are decrypted by the cryptographic processor unit if associated with a time that precedes the expiration time for the respective ephemeral decryption key. A decrypted ephemeral message is prevented from being transmitted from the cryptographic processor unit in the event a time associated with a received encrypted ephemeral message is subsequent to the expiration time for the respective ephemeral key pair.

Abstract: A content key, an authentication key, and a program data etc. are transmitted with an enabling key block (EKB) in an encrypted key constitution of a tree structure. The EKB has a constitution in which a device as a leaf of the tree holds a leaf key and a limited node key, and a specific enabling key block (EKB) is generated and distributed to a group specified by a specific node to limit devices that can be renewed. As the devices that do not belong to the group cannot perform decryption, the security for distributing keys etc. can be secured. Thus, distribution of various kinds of keys or data is executed in an encryption key constitution of a tree structure to realize an information processing system and method enabling to distribute data efficiently and safely.

Abstract: A surround reproducing circuit includes a first adder for generating a difference signal of an L signal and an R signal which are inputted, a low-pass filter connected to an output side of the first adder, and second and third adders for mixing an output signal of the low-pass filter as a surround signal with the L signal and the R signal in an opposite phase relationship to each other. Change in a phase is lessened within a frequency band of 20 Hz to 20 KHz and the localization can become definite, and furthermore, a harsh high pass is also lessened. Consequently, it is possible to realize a surround effect having natural spread. Furthermore, the number of capacitors to be required can also be decreased.

Abstract: An artificial stereophonic circuit which includes a monophonic signal input terminal, a signal output terminal of one of an L channel and an R channel which are connected to the signal input terminal, a phase-shifting circuit having an input side connected to the signal input terminal, and a signal output terminal of the other channel of the L channel and the R channel having an output side connected to the phase-shifting circuit. The phase-shifting circuit has an almost equal gain in a full frequency band of an input signal, and a phase shift for a change from 0 to 180 degrees according to an increase in a frequency of the input signal is carried out. The change of the phase can be minimized and a natural stereophonic effect can be realized. Moreover, only one capacitor is enough and only one pin for external attachment is enough for wholly forming an IC.
