Abstract: In a ballpoint pen which is formed to have an ink-consumption value per unit area of 0.64 to 1.6 mg/cm2, the surface tension of the ink for the ball point pen is adjusted to a range of 16 to 32 mN/m so that blotting, line splitting and the like hardly occur, that the ink transferred onto the paper surface is ready to be dried and that fluctuation in the density and width of the written lines are less likely to occur due to a storage environment and to a writing condition.

Abstract: A method of controlling the physical properties of cement by adding a predetermined amount of a second phase to a first phase cementitious precursor. The second phase is added in the form of seed crystals having controlled sizes, shapes, and compositions. The seed crystals provide growth sites upon curing the cement for a second phase in the cement body. The curing is accelerated by the presence of the seed crystals. Control of the microstructure of the resulting cement body through controlled distribution and growth of the seed crystals enables the formation of a cement body having precisely controlled physical properties.

This concept reduces wear of the cylinders and piston rings. The engine provides improved gas mileage due to the reduced piston drag. One unique feature is the power take-off from the piston to the flywheels. The design takes power from inside the cylinder compartment, through four transfer arms, to cams that in turn transfer the power to two flywheels. By firing complimentary cylinders 180 degrees at the same time, almost no vibration is noticed. Also, since the cylinders can fire many times per flywheel rotation, the torque which this engine produces is greater other designs. Any number of cylinders is possible. Single cylinders and two cylinder designs with chain power take-offs are also possible for lawnmowers and motorcycles.

Abstract: Crankcase scavenged two-stroke internal combustion engine, in which at least one piston ported air passage, with length Lai, is arranged between an air inlet (2) and each scavenging port (31, 31′) of a number of transfer ducts (3, 3′), with length L s, from the scavenging port to the crankcase. The air passage is arranged from an air inlet (2) equipped with a restriction valve (4), controlled by at least one engine parameter, for instance the carburetor throttle control. The air inlet extends via at least one connecting duct (6, 6′) to at least one connecting port (8, 8′) in the engine's cylinder wall (12). The connecting port (8, 8′) is arranged so that it in connection with piston positions at the top dead center is connected with flow paths (10, 10′) embodied in the piston (13), which extend to the upper part of a number of transfer ducts (3, 3′).

Abstract: An apparatus and method for extracting energy from an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine includes a chamber having a primary piston and a secondary piston with a combustion portion of the chamber situated adjacently between the primary piston and secondary piston. The secondary piston includes a substantially lesser mass than that of the primary piston. The chamber includes at least one fluid port for supplying fuel to the combustion portion and an out-take port for releasing combustive exhaust. The chamber includes a controller for controlling the combustion therein at selected cycles of the primary piston. With this arrangement, the secondary piston is configured to draw a portion of energy from combustion controlled by the controller in the chamber. Such portion of energy is provided with a rapid response to an energy transferring portion interconnected to the secondary piston, which in turn, transfers and/or converts the energy for acting on a load or external application.

Abstract: In a Diesel engine with variably actuated valves, the cam controlling each inlet valve is shaped to provoke the opening of the respective inlet valve during the engine's normal exhaust phase and thus realize exhaust gas recirculation within the engine, due to the fact that during the normal exhaust phase, part of the exhaust gas passes from the cylinder into the inlet port, from where it returns to the cylinder during the next induction phase, while part of the exhaust gas that had previously passed into the exhaust port returns to the cylinder during the said induction phase due to the additional opening of the exhaust valve, in consequence of which the exhaust gas charges that return to the cylinder are subjected to further combustion in the next engine cycle.

The electric motor is flanged directly to one end of the and is a primary drive unit of the camshaft as well as a servomechanism to adjust and maintain a controlled camshaft angular shift, whereas the drive pulley is fastened to and moves about the other end of the camshaft within a defined range of rotation and is provided as a forced synchronization instrument for the electric motor within the range of rotation, as well as being a secondary drive unit of the camshaft. Further, the electric motor (7) is connected to an RPM controller (10) that synchronizes and modifies the RPM of the electric motor (7) relative to the RPM of the drive pulley (4).

Abstract: A marine drive has an engine, a propeller and a transmission to switch the propeller between a propulsion position and a non-propulsion position. The engine has a combustion chamber. An air induction system communicates with the combustion chamber through an intake port. An exhaust system communicates with the combustion chamber through an exhaust port. Intake and exhaust valves move between an open position and a closed position of the intake port and the exhaust port, respectively. Intake and exhaust camshafts actuate the intake and exhaust valves, respectively. A VVT mechanism changes an actuating timing of the intake camshaft at which the camshaft actuates the intake valve. An ECU controls the intake camshaft to set the actuating timing at a generally optimum timing. A transmission position change operation sensor senses that the transmission is under operation and sends a signal to the ECU. The ECU controls the VVT mechanism based upon the signal to move the actuating timing away from the optimum timing.
