Abstract: The present invention relates to a polymer-matrix material including a non-ionic solid matrix and a polymer, wherein the polymer is present on a surface of the non-ionic solid matrix and within an interior bulk of the non-ionic solid matrix. The present invention also relates to methods for forming a polymer within a non-ionic solid matrix. These methods include transporting a polymer precursor or a polymerizing reagent on and into the non-ionic solid matrix and exposing the non-ionic solid matrix to a polymerizing reagent or polymer precursor, respectively, under conditions effective to polymerize the polymer precursor within the non-ionic solid matrix.

Abstract: Polymerization of &agr;-bromomethyl-&agr;-methyl-&bgr;-propiolactone (BMMPL) or &agr;-chloromethyl-&agr;-methyl-&bgr;-propiolactone (CMMPL) yielded thermoplastic homopolymers that upon azidation led to a novel energetic thermoplastic polyester: poly(&agr;-azidomethyl-&agr;-methyl-&bgr;-propiolactone) (PAMMPL). An energetic copolyether-ester thermoplastic elastomer was prepared by using glycidyl azide polymer, a dihydroxyl terminated energetic polymer, as a macroinitiator for the polymerization of BMMPL or CMMPL. The azidation of the resulting copolyether-ester yielded an energetic thermoplastic elastomer that melted at between 80° C. and 85° C. Polymerization of &agr;-dibromomethyl-&bgr;-propiolactone (DBMPL) resulted in a polymer which upon azidation yielded a new energetic polymer that can be used as a binder or into an energetic thermoplastic elastomer synthesis.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for passing a polymerization effluent, comprising solid polymer, unreacted monomer, diluent and minor amounts of contaminants, to a high pressure flash where most of the fluid components are flashed and wherein a slip stream comprising diluent and minor amounts of monomer is separated from the bulk of the flashed fluid components. The slip stream is subjected to olefin removal to give an essentially olefin-free stream for recycle to a catalyst mud preparation area. The bulk of the flashed fluid components are recycled directly back to the polymerization zone without expensive olefin removal, although treatment to remove other contaminants can optionally be performed. The polymer and entrained fluid is passed to a low pressure flash zone where the fluids are flashed off, compressed and joined with the flash from the high pressure flash tank.

Abstract: A polymer comprising structural units of the formula I is prepared according to a novel method, in which the starting compound R1 ‘S—(CHR’2) —Ar— (CHR2)—SR1 is polymerized with a base, preferably in an aprotic solvent. The polymer comprises 50 to 1000 structural units of the formula I. The solution comprising the polymer thus prepared has a lower viscosity than a solution of a similar polymer with a greater chain length. The solution comprising the polymer thus prepared may be applied as a layer on a substrate. Electronic components with layers prepared with the polymer of the invention show better properties.

Abstract: An aqueous resin composition satisfying the following criteria (I)-(III). (I) The aqueous resin composition contains (a) an aqueous dispersion of a polyurethane resin obtained from a macromolecular polyol, organic polyisocyanate, chain extending agent and 2,2-dimethylolbutanoic acid, and, if required, (b) an aqueous dispersion of an acrylic resin. Abstract: The organic polymers of the invention have electrical semiconductor properties. The compounds have a backbone of phenylene groups to which side groups with semiconductor properties, or which impart semiconductor properties to the polymer, are bonded. The polymers are obtained by Bergmann cyclization from compounds that contain aromatic groups to which vicinal ethynyl groups are bonded. Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing saturated polyester used in various molded products, such as films, synthetic fibers, vessels and housings. In particular, the method improves mechanical properties, including tensile strength or impact resistance, of saturated polyester.
