Adapter for holding a sample container to facilitate sensing of liquid level in the sample container
Publication number: 20030037611Abstract: An adapter for holding a sample container includes a main body portion and a tapered body portion that forms a continuation of the main body portion. The tapered body portion includes a mouth opening that is of lesser diameter than the diameter of the main body portion. The mouth opening of the adapter is sized to provide direct support of a sample container which holds a liquid sample. During liquid level sensing ultrasonic waves from an ultrasound detector are reflected back to the sound detector as echoes from the lip flange of the sample container and from the liquid level within the sample container. The tapered surface of the adapter deflects sound echoes away from the sound detector. The adapter is thus invisible to the ultrasound detector. The echo from the liquid level is a variable duration echo and the echo from the lip flange of the sample container is a fixed duration echo that is always of lesser duration than the variable duration echo.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2002Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventors: Paul E. Publication number: 20030037614Abstract: A method and system for measuring angular speed of an object uses a micromechanical filter apparatus and allows Q-multiplication in both drive and sense modes. The invention takes advantage of the constant amplitude region of a filter spectrum within a passband of the filter apparatus to sense with a constant scaling factor that is independent of frequency variations with the passband. Thus, the system has much less sensitivity to drive mode resonance frequency shifts due to temperature variations, fabrication non-idealities and aging. The system senses angular rate or speed at resonance, which results in a great improvement over conventional gyroscopes operated off-resonance.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2002Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventors: Clark T.-C. Publication number: 20030037615Abstract: The present invention uses the generation and detection of acoustic guided waves to evaluate the condition of the insulation on electrical wiring. Low order axisymmetric and flexural acoustic modes are generated in the insulated wire and travel partially in the center conductor and partially in the outer insulation. The stiffness of the insulation and the insulation's condition affect the overall wave speed and amplitude of the guided wave. Analysis of the received signal provides information about the age or useful life of the wire insulation. In accordance with the present invention, signal transmission occurs at one location on the electrical wire to be evaluated, and detection occurs at one or more locations along the electrical wire. Additional receivers can be used to improve measurement accuracy. Either the transmission transducer or one or more receiver transducers may be angled at other than 90 degrees to the wire.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2002Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventors: Eric I. Publication number: 20030037654Abstract: An improved apparatus for generating a high-pressure fluid jet includes an orifice mount having a frusto-conical surface that engages a frusto-conical wall in a cutting head, the geometry of the orifice mount and cutting head being selected to increase the stability of the mount and reduce deflection of the mount adjacent a jewel orifice, when subjected to pressure. Alignment of a nozzle body and the cutting head is improved by providing pilot diameters both upstream and downstream of threads on the nozzle body and bore of the cutting head, respectively. Accurate placement of a mixing tube in a cutting head is achieved by rigidly fixing a collar to an outer surface of the mixing tube, the collar engaging a shoulder and bore of the cutting head downstream of a mixing chamber, to precisely locate the mixing chamber axially and radially.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 1, 2002Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventors: Felix M. Publication number: 20030037655Abstract: The present invention relates to a catch structure of a rotary cover plate of a circular sawing machine. A rotary cover plate is rotatably mounted on an upper blade guard of a circular sawing machine, to cover a semi-circular hole of the upper blade guard. A lower blade guard is pivoted on the rotary cover plate, so that the lower blade guard may be rotated relative to the rotary cover plate. The rotary cover plate has an inner side protruded with a first catch end which may be stopped and positioned on a side wall of the semi-circular hole. The rotary cover plate has an outer side protruded with a second catch end which may be stopped on a lug of a bottom edge of the lower blade guard.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 21, 2001Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventor: Chang Chin-Chin

Publication number: 20030037656Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a unique table assembly which incorporates an orientation system for a group of wear plates and a three position lock system. The wear plates between the table assembly and the base of the miter saw have a different configuration at each end which requires them to be assembled into the table saw with any burred edge being positioned away from the table assembly. The lock system incorporated into the table assembly is movable between three positions. The first position locks the table to the miter saw. The second position permits rotation of the table with a spring loaded detent system releasably locking the table at various miter angles. The third position permits rotation of the table with the spring loaded detent system being disengaged providing free movement of the table.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2002Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventor: Mark E. Publication number: 20030037660Abstract: An acoustic drum or electronic percussion instrument is constructed by a drumhead corresponding to a punching sheet on which plenty of apertures are formed and a cylinder covered with the drumhead being stretched under tension as well as a muting structure which is realized by a vibration absorption member and a support structure containing L-shaped support members and a support plate. Herein, the support members are detachably attached to an interior periphery of the cylinder to support the support plate, on which the vibration absorption member is mounted and is arranged in contact with a backside surface of the drumhead to absorb vibration of the drumhead whose surface is being struck by a drumstick or else. Using the muting structure, it is possible to actualize mute performance in which drum sounds are being muted by reduction of the vibration of the drumhead propagating into the air.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2002Publication date: February 27, 2003Inventor: Yuichiro Suenaga
