Abstract: The image subject to be transferred is applied in preformatted form to at least two printing formes in the form of segment-like image data in a row and column arrangement, in such a way that a first portion of information from each segment of the image subject (information (a) with appropriate index features) is provided on a first printing forme, and a second portion of information from the corresponding segment of the image subject (information (b) with appropriate index features) is provided on a second printing forme. As a result of synchronous rolling of the printing-forme cylinders, the portions of information are assembled to form complete information (<a,b> with the respectively combined index features) for each segment of the image subject on the printed page.

Abstract: A pallet conveyor system includes a rail assembly and a pallet assembly. The rail assembly including parallel and spaced-apart rail supports that each has a cylindrical rail disposed thereon. An intermediate support is positioned between the rails and includes a removable stop bar. The pallet assembly engages the rails and is adapted for forward or reverse motion along the rails. A first and second sensor are secured to the pallet assembly and adapted to detect the stop bar as the pallet moves along the rails. When the first sensor detects the stop bar, the pallet assembly is slowed. Thereafter, as the second sensor detects the stop bar, the pallet assembly is stopped. Therefore, by simple movement of the stop bar, a pallet assembly may be easily and precisely positioned at any location along a conveyor line without the need to reprogram the pallet assembly.

Abstract: A basket gate mechanism, typically for use in the cargo holds of bulk carriers, includes two opposed gate segments which shut along a central line. Each gate segment is supported at its ends by pairs of different length arms, so that when the gate is opened, the segments slope downwardly. The pairs of arms are interconnected by a mechanism that ensures coordination of the movement of the segments. The arms and the supporting framework are protected by a hog back. The gate is opened and closed by a double acting hydraulic cylinder, located between the gate ends. The cylinders provide three gate positions: closed, operating to discharge solids, and clean out, which considerably simplifies the equipment required for controlling the opening and closing of the gate. The gate opening is angled relative to the conveyor beneath it, so that the downstream end is further away than the downstream end.

Abstract: A plasma reactor comprises an electromagnetic energy source coupled to a radiator through first and second variable impedance networks. The plasma reactor includes a chamber having a dielectric window that is proximate to the radiator. A shield is positioned between the radiator and the dielectric window. The shield substantially covers a surface of the radiator near the dielectric window. A portion of the radiator that is not covered by the shield is proximate to a conductive wall of the chamber. Plasma reactor operation includes the following steps. A plasma is ignited in a chamber with substantially capacitive electric energy coupled from the radiator. A variable impedance network is tuned so that the capacitive electric energy coupled into the chamber is diminished. The plasma is then powered with substantially magnetic energy.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for performing Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (PCVD), whereby one or more layers of silica can be deposited on an elongated vitreous substrate. The apparatus includes an elongated microwave guide which emerges into a resonant cavity which is substantially cylindrically symmetric about a cylindrical axis, along which axis the substrate can be positioned. Aspects of the apparatus include the cavity being substantially annular in form, with an inner cylindrical wall and an outer cylindrical wall and the inner cylindrical wall having a slit which extends in a full circle around the cylindrical axis: Additional aspects include the guide having a longitudinal axis which is substantially perpendicular to the cylindrical axis and which does not intercept the slit. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing an optical fiber, a preform rod and a jacket tube as well as to the thus obtained optical fiber.

Abstract: A mit designed to contemporaneously retrieve and store waste debris for ultimate disposal. The mit is divided into a hand portion and a heel portion that are integrated along a flared portion. The hand portion consists of finger sections that correspond to each of the finger tips of a hand. The hand portion flares inwardly toward the heel portion which then flares outwardly, in a direction opposite the finger sections, to terminate in a base. The mit is used to collect or retrieve waste debris and is then reversed into a tieable bag to secure the waste debris for ultimate disposal. Located at the base are two ties to secure the waste debris within the resulting bag that is formed from the reversibility of the mit.
