Abstract: A conventional baseball (softball) glove includes at least one layer of protective padding in the areas above and below the center axis of rotation of the metacarpalphalangeal joint of the index finger. Preferably, two layers of padding are used. One layer of padding is a slow release foam material and the other layer of padding is a foam rubber, neoprene, or other foamed elastomeric material. Additional protective padding may extend to the areas above and below the center axis of rotation of other joints of the index finger as well as joints of other fingers.

Abstract: A protective guard for a finger or thumb may be used during a medical procedure. The protective guard may inhibit needle or instrument puncture of a medical practitioner's skin during the medical procedure. The protective guard may include a protective portion and a less protective portion. The materials used to form the protective portion and the less protective portion may be chosen so that the guard provides a large degree of penetration resistance while still remaining flexible. The color of the protective portion may be different than the color of the less protective portion to provide a user with a visual indication of the protective area of the protective guard.

Abstract: An undergarment for use by a hockey player comprising a torso portion having a head opening, and arm openings; two pant leg portions extending from the torso portion; and a neck guard assembly comprising an integral neck guard at the head opening, and a releasable attachment means coupled to the neck guard to permit the neck guard to be securely positioned. Each pant leg portion carries at least one sock support. The undergarment further includes a genital protector support, sized, shaped and positioned to support a genital protector. Also included are a pair of sleeves and a sleeve cuff assembly on each of the sleeves. Each sleeve cuff assembly includes a fastening means which is sufficiently adjustable to allow a wrist guard to be selectively positioned on a player's wrist.

Abstract: A manicure/pedicure glove for treatment of damaged skin areas and/or enhancing nail growth is presented. The glove comprises a single layer of breathable material having a second layer of material in a particular treatment area. The second layer of material is impregnated with a wax-based preparation and may or may not be separated from the external layer in the treatment area by a thin plastic film or exterior coating to ensure non-leakage. Alternatively, the glove may only cover the finger or toe tip. In use, the glove is provided. A hand or foot is inserted into the glove and the glove worn for a sufficient period to permit the wax-based preparation to penetrate into the treatment area. The glove is then removed and may be disposed or, or alternatively may be used for a specified number of repeated applications.

Abstract: A bicycle helmet that allows ventilation to a cyclist head. The helmet comprises a hard internal shell, a hard external shell, and a shock absorbing foam insert located between the internal and external shells. The helmet consists of a generally open concave structure having a number of fore and aft extending structural arms, transversely spaced from one another and merging with an annular bottom edge rim at both their fore and aft ends. Each structural arm forms a U-shape in cross-section, for reinforcing the helmet structure. The shock absorbing foam of the insert engages with the grooves formed by these cross-sectionally U-shape structural arms. Air ventilation passages are formed in between each pair of successive U arms, extending through corresponding openings in the shock absorbing insert and through the open mouth formed by the annular internal shell. The radius of curvature of the structural arms is greater than that of the shock absorbing insert.

Thus, fatigue on the eyes and surroundings thereof can be relieved by the magnetic actions of the magnetic bodies and the warming effects of the warming member, in addition to expected effects of restoring ocular functions, recovering from various ocular diseases, and so on. Furthermore, the surface of each of the eye pads is gradually curved like the inner surface of a sphere. When the eye pads are press-contact to the eyeball parts at predetermined pressures for a long time, the cornea can be warmed by the warming members so that the shape of the cornea can be changed along the shape of the eye pad, resulting in the effects of recovering from eye sight disorder such as pseudo-myopia, moderate farsightedness, or moderate astigmatism.

Abstract: A cleaning system for swimming pools includes a recirculating pump system which has a suction inlet and a water outlet. A suction return is located in the pool; and the suction return is connected to the suction inlet of the recirculating pump system. In-floor cleaning heads are located adjacent the ends of the pool and operate in a 360° circle to sweep the bottom of the pool and place debris in suspension. Intermediate the 360° rotatable cleaning heads, between the ends of the pool and the suction return, cleaning heads which sweep in substantially a 180° arc are directed toward the suction return to move debris toward the suction return for removal by the recirculating pump system.

Abstract: A disposable drainage container to be used in a medical procedure. One embodiment of the container comprises a sloped base and walls that are integrally formed with the sloped base. The container is adapted to collect fluids from the medical procedure and is made of a composition and shaped such that it is substantially rigid and such that it is not collapsible under weight of the fluid from the medical procedure. The container further comprises a drainage spout disposed within the sloped base that is configured such that it can be sealed to collect the fluid from the cystoscopy procedure and such that it can be unsealed to flush the fluid from the cystoscopy procedure. The composition is also disposable, is compatible with a surgical procedure environment, and provides substantial rigidity to the disposable drainage container.

Abstract: The wooden bed frame shown in the figure is designed to reduce the effect of the house Dust Mite upon a sleeper allergic to such Mites. The bed incorporates a number of features each of which contribute to reduce asthma attacks for sleepers sensitive to the House Dust Mite. The bed frame includes a footboard (2) and a headboard (1) outwardly inclined at an angle of between 5° and 25°, preferably at 15°, to the vertical. The headboard (1) and footboard (2), both extend beyond the width of an air mattress (not shown) lying between stringers (3 and 4) to ensure good circumjacent air circulation even when located against a wall. The mattress is supported on slats (6) mounted between the stringers (3 and 4). In use the air mattress may be covered by a quilted cotton material that is readily washed and dried so that it does not act as a natural host for House Dust Mites.

Abstract: The invention relates to an improvement in bleaching of kraft pulp. In ECF bleaching chlorine dioxide is most often a prefered bleaching chemical in certain process positions. The disadvantage is that residual amounts of organically bound chlorine in form of AOX, i.e organically bound chlorine in effluents, and/or OCl, i.e. chlorine organically bound in the produced pulp, is obtained. A normal approach has been to reduce charges of chlorine dioxide.

Abstract: A recycling process for liquid treatment of denim scrap comprising placing denim scrap on a support surface to form a thickness of flat, layered denim scrap. To the top surface is applied a compression plate to form the thickness of denim scrap into a compact cake. Then treatment liquid is passed through the interior of the compact cake in a direction parallel to the surfaces of the scrap, the liquid passing between opposed surfaces of the denim pieces. The denim scrap is preferably cut into relatively uniform sizes having their largest dimension less than about 4 inches.

The device has a housing which has a generally cylindrical cavity defined within its interior, and a rotor assembly housed in the cavity. The bottom of the housing has a downwardly facing opening defined therethrough which extends laterally across the bottom of the device, and the rotor assembly protrudes through the opening to provide a means for easy movement of the device by an operator. The housing has a passageway defined through one portion thereof to provide a fluid connection between the cavity within the housing and a vacuum source which is externally applied to the device. The rotor assembly is preferably assembled from a plurality of spoked wheels mounted on a rotor shaft fashioned to be held in eccentric bearings mounted in the sides of the device. There is no significant compression of the carpet or pad since the device does not “wring-out” the carpet.

A swinging door safety device comprises a pair of spaced parallel bars connected to one another at one end by a crossbar. At the opposite end of each bar, a counterweight is provided. With the rings mounted to oppositely facing door knobs such that the crossbar spans the leading edge of the door, gravity acting on the counterweight biases the device to rotate such that the bars extend outward from the leading edge and prevent closure of the door by contacting the door jamb. The device is manually rotatable to a position wherein the bars do not extend forward of the door leading edge in order to fully close the door. A sliding door safety device comprises a mounting bracket secured near the leading edge of the sliding door. A lever is pivotally mounted to the bracket and rotatable between a stop position and a retracted position.
