Abstract: A fabric having at least one hydraulically napped surface comprised of tangled fibers is disclosed. Because the fiber tangles are created from intact, undamaged fibers, fabric strength is not adversely affected by treatment. In addition, laundering enhances entanglement and the aesthetic qualities attributed to this fabric property: surface texture (hand), resistance to pilling, drapeability, and the like. These subjective characteristics have been quantified using values from the Kawabata Evaluation System. A process for creating such fabrics has also been disclosed. The fabric passes through one or two treatment zones in which high pressure fluids (e.g., water) are directed at the fabric surface as the fabric moves away from a support member. IN the case of dual treatment zones, a substantially lower pressure is used in the second treatment zone.

Abstract: A system for correcting twist in airfoil components includes a first fixture assembly for holding a first end of an airfoil component and a second fixture assembly for holding a second end of the airfoil component. A rotary drive unit is provided for rotating the first fixture assembly. A gage is included for measuring twist angle in the airfoil component, and a controller controls the rotary drive unit in response to input from the gage to twist the airfoil component. In operation, the airfoil component's twist angle measured by the gage is fed to the controller. The controller computes how much the airfoil component needs to be twisted to achieve a desired twist angle, and the first fixture assembly is then rotated sufficiently to twist the airfoil component to the desired twist angle.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for handling a container having a removable cover, e.g., a vial for holding a biological fluid specimen. The container may have therein an internal element that is releasably coupled to the cover, such as an assembly for processing the specimen in the container. The method involves applying an external force to the covered container sufficient to release the internal element from the cover, and then dislodging the cover from the container. The external force may be an acceleration force applied to the container, such as an impact force to the bottom of the container, or direct contact with the cover with sufficient force to deflect the cover inwardly. A vertically mounted pressing member and a movably mounted gripper can be used. The pressing member may act to eject the cover from the gripper after the container is clear of the gripper. Abstract: A tool guard attachment for a rotary hand tool of the type which has a housing with a nose portion from which an output shaft protrudes and which typically has a mechanism for holding tool bits or implements is disclosed. The tool guard attachment, which mounts to the nose portion of the rotary hand tool, has a guard housing with an enlarged guard portion at the outer end thereof which provides a shield or guard for a flat circular tool implement that is mounted on an arbor shaft assembly that in turn is connected by a U-joint to a drive shaft assembly at an acute angle relative to the arbor shaft assembly. The drive shaft assembly engages a driver nut or the like that is mounted to the output shaft of the rotary hand tool. The angle between the drive shaft and the arbor shaft is offset about 10 to 30° so that the rotary hand tool itself does not interfere with the cutting blade engaging a work surface at a perpendicular angle during operation.

Abstract: A rotational angle detector detects, with a detecting unit, a rotation of a rotary body rotating in cooperation with a steering wheel as a detection signal having a cyclic waveform that gradually increases or decreases in one cycle, calculates the detection signal as a rotational angle of the rotary body, and stores the detection signal. The rotational angle detector is used for detecting the rotational angle of a steering wheel of a car and allows the angle detection at a high solution in a simple structure.

Abstract: A variety of measuring devices are provided for determining a radius of a work piece having a substantially circular cross-section without contacting opposing sides of the work piece. A guide portion includes a first side and a second side which contact two points of the work piece. A probe measures a distance to the work piece. In some embodiments, the first and second sides of the guide portion form a Vee and the probe is disposed in the vertex of the Vee. In some embodiments, the first side of the guide portion may be moved relative to the second side in order to accommodate a wide range of work piece sizes.

Abstract: A guide for marking or cutting at an oblique angle corrugated sheet material for buildings, decks or the like comprises a base that is mounted on the surface of corrugated sheet material by means of clamping members that grip the corrugations on the face or surface of the sheet material. A protractor rotatably mounted on the base include a straight edge that provides a guideline for a marking tool or cutting tool. The straight edge can includes a number of interconnectectable or hinged extension sections that can be used to provide a longer straight edge for marking a guide path over a considerable width of sheet material. The present invention is a lightweight, relatively inexpensive and relatively compact tool that can readily be used on the job site for making accurate, oblique cut lines in large siding panels.

Abstract: A system for high-pressure drying of semiconductor wafers includes the insertion of a wafer into an open vessel, the immersion of the wafer in a liquid, pressure-sealing of the vessel, pressurization of the vessel with an inert gas, and then the controlled draining of the liquid using a moveable drain that extracts water from a depth maintained just below the gas-liquid interface. Thereafter, the pressure may be reduced in the vessel and the dry and clean wafer may be removed. The high pressure suppresses the boiling point of liquids, thus allowing higher temperatures to be used to optimize reactivity. Megasonic waves are used with pressurized fluid to enhance cleaning performance. Supercritical substances are provided in a sealed vessel containing a wafer to promote cleaning and other treatment.
