Abstract: A binding for a snowshoe has a base secured to a footbed connected to the snowshoe frame, and a tongue piece above the footbed, connected at front to the footbed in a flexible hinge and positioned to engage the top of a user's boot, from the toe to the arch. At each side of the binding, between the tongue piece and the footpad, lacing extends in zig-zag configuration from the front to the back of the binding, passing through lacing eyes and slidable through the eyes with relatively low friction, for drawing the tongue piece down onto the boot. At the back of the binding, a heel strap is positioned to extend around the heel of the foot, and this heel strap is connected to the lacing at both sides, such that when the heel strap is tightened via slip-through type adjustment buckles, this pulls on the lacing to tighten the lacing at both sides and snug the tongue piece down against the boot, firmly engaging the boot in the binding.

  • Publication number: 20030126766
Abstract: A harness for a snowshoe has straps, buckles and strap slip connections configured such that a single pull will snug the harness down to the boot, both at the toe and at the top of the arch, firmly engaging over the shoe or boot. The straps, which may be formed as a single strap, extend up from one side of the toe end of a footbed secured to the snowshoe, and pass through loops and buckles of the harness assembly in such a way that the ends of the straps, or a loop of the single strap can be pulled from between the buckles to tighten the harness at toe and arch areas simultaneously. Mechanical advantage preferably is provided at the toe end, by the strap looping back once before it reaches the buckle. The strap or straps are arranged and connected such that a flexible harness shell that extends up from one side of the footbed “floats” in position, accommodating a wide range of shoe or boot sizes.

  • Publication number: 20030126767
Abstract: A snowshoe having a tubular frame supporting a flexible deck has a molded tail piece connecting the tail ends of the tubular frame. The tail piece has two dowel members which are angled to form a rear apex, such that the tail ends of the tubular frame extend over the dowel members for secure connection. In addition, the molded tail piece has a connecting bracket extending forwardly, with a wide slot in which the tail of the stretched membrane decking is secured. In this way a rear support and connection point for the decking is provided by the tube end connector, while also providing tension on the tail piece retaining it in place without the need for fasteners.

Abstract: The present invention features a firearm safety mechanism with an improved trigger pull, wherein the weight of the safety mechanism is not on the trigger when the hammer is in the “full cock” position. The advancement presented in the present invention serves to separate the trigger from the trigger bar during the period when the trigger is pulled. As a result, the weight of the safety mechanism is not borne by the trigger while the hammer is fully cocked. This is accomplished by providing means for positioning the transfer bar into the extended position free from contact with the trigger. The present invention further features means, dependent upon the trigger, for facilitating the relocation of the transfer bar from its extended position into a retracted position upon release of the trigger subsequent to discharge of the firearm.

Abstract: Al2O3-rare earth oxide-ZrO2/HfO2 ceramics (including glasses, crystalline ceramics, and glass-ceramics) and methods of making the same. Ceramics according to the present invention can be made, formed as, or converted into glass beads, articles (e.g., plates), fibers, particles, and thin coatings. The particles and fibers are useful, for example, as thermal insulation, filler, or reinforcing material in composites (e.g., ceramic, metal, or polymeric matrix composites). The thin coatings can be useful, for example, as protective coatings in applications involving wear, as well as for thermal management. Certain ceramic particles according to the present invention can be are particularly useful as abrasive particles.

Abstract: The Invention relates to a tornado or hurricane shelter that is located above ground and at ground surface, large enough to provide a place of safety for up to ten people and is handicap accessible. The structures shape is oblong and a oblong spherical radius at the top. The basic frame and doors are solid thick hardwood planks bonded together with glue and fastened with lag screws and the windows are high impact plastic fastened to the structure with bolts. The door is a two part door with a sight window in the top, the side windows are removable from inside and they blend to the shape of the structure. High strength wire ropes go over the shelter and attach to turnbuckles which attach to earth anchors installed deep into the earth. Wire ropes and where it attaches to the earth anchors with turnbuckles is covered with a non metallic cover. The upper part door attaches to the lower door and the lower door attaches to the basic structure with heavy duty hinges and latches that are commercially available.

Abstract: A decking assembly is mounted to a building roof or wall to thermally insulate the buildingt. The decking assembly has a first panel with an outside surface and a foil covered inside surface and a second panel having an outside surface and a foil covered inside surface. The foil covered inside surface of the second panel faces the foil covered inside surface of the first panel. At least one spacer is positioned between the panel so as to create an air space defined by the foil covered inside surfaces. The air space has an open inlet and outlet to create a continuous conduit for the flow of air from an entrance side to an exhaust side. The air space can be divided into two separate compartments by a barrier panel that has foil on opposite sides.

Abstract: An invention for cemeteries that unifies cemetery displays and the burial monument, and does away with the clutter of ground level displays. It has a receiving base adapted for attaching numerous displays. The receiving base is bonded to the monument or its base at an elevation that will reduce problems being experienced by maintenance personnel. The attachment is achieved by using extra strength adhesives that provide long term bonding. The displays can be joined to the receiving base in several different ways, but studs with male threads and displays with incorporated female threads have received favorable attention. The receiving base can be utilized but not limited to the attachment of vases, potted plants, religious symbols or other personal items. A cavity lined with female threads located in the display's bottom or sides simplifies the union of the base and display. All displays can be attached or removed at the convenience of the user.

Abstract: A block has a finished surface that provides an attractive appearance. The block is relatively large in size, allowing the quick construction of a wall, such as a retaining wall, using the block. The block includes one or more lift and alignment devices in the block that allow the block to be lifted using a suitable lifting apparatus, such as a crane, forklift, backhoe, etc. The block includes one or more recessed portions in the bottom surface of the block positioned to receive the protruding lift and alignment device of a previously-laid block underneath, thereby helping to align the block with the previously-laid block. The block includes one or more voids that extend from the top surface to the bottom surface of the block, and that align with each other when the blocks are stacked into a wall, thereby allowing fill material to be placed in the voids to strengthen the wall. The preferred embodiments also include a wall system with various different blocks that may be used to build a wall.
