Publication number: 20030143492Abstract: A system and method are provided for fabricating an orifice plate for use in an ink jet printing system. Initially, a substrate base is provided, and a controlled-release layer is applied to a surface of the substrate base. A conductive metal layer is adherently coated on the controlled-release layer. At least one dielectric peg is created on a portion of the conductive metal layer, and a nozzle layer is applied on the conductive metal layer to partially cover the dielectric peg. Photolithography is used to define a trench that covers the nozzles prior to formation of a second reinforcing layer. Publication number: 20030143536Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and a method for amplification of nucleic acid sequences of interest. The method is based on stand displacement replication of the nucleic acid sequences of interest by multiple primers. In one preferred form of the method, referred to as multiple strand displacement amplification, two sets of primers are used, a right set and a left set. The primers in the right set are complementary to one strand of the nucleic acid molecule to be amplified and the primers in the left set are complementary to the opposite strand. The 5′ end of primers in both sets are distal to the nucleic acid sequence of interest when the primers have hybridized to the nucleic acid sequence molecule to be amplified. Amplification proceeds by replication initiated at each primer and continuing through the nucleic acid sequence of interest. A key feature of this method is the displacement of intervening primers during replication by the polymerase.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2001Publication date: July 31, 2003Applicant: Yale UniversityInventor: Paul M. Publication number: 20030143538Abstract: The invention provides methods of detecting a nucleic acid. The methods comprise contacting the nucleic acid with one or more types of particles having oligonucleotides attached thereto. In one embodiment of the method, the oligonucleotides are attached to nanoparticles and have sequences complementary to portions of the sequence of the nucleic acid. A detectable change (preferably a color change) is brought about as a result of the hybridization of the oligonucleotides on the nanoparticles to the nucleic acid. The invention also provides compositions and kits comprising particles. The invention further provides methods of synthesizing unique nanoparticle-oligonucleotide conjugates, the conjugates produced by the methods, and methods of using the conjugates. In addition, the invention provides nanomaterials and nanostructures comprising nanoparticles and methods of nanofabrication utilizing nanoparticles. Finally, the invention provides a method of separating a selected nucleic acid from other nucleic acids.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2001Publication date: July 31, 2003Applicant: Nanosphere, Inc.Inventors: Chad A. Publication number: 20030143540Abstract: Provided are proteins having NF-kB activity, which are used for diagnosing, treating or preventing diseases associated with the excessive activation or inhibition of NF-kB. Using plasmid pNFkB-Luc, cDNA encoding a protein capable of activating NF-kB has been cloned from a cDNA library constructed from human lung fibroblasts, and the DNA sequence and the deduced amino acid sequence determined. The protein, the DNA encoding the protein, a recombinant vector containing the DNA, and a transformant containing the recombinant vector are useful for screening a substance inhibiting or promoting NF-kB activation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2001Publication date: July 31, 2003Applicant: Asahi Kasei Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Akio MATSUDA , Goichi HONDA , Shuji MURAMATSU , Yukiko NAGANO
