Abstract: A router is disclosed for use in a network to carry data packets therein. Each router provides a hop along a path through the network extending from a source network address node to a destination network address node. Each route for routing data packets contains a destination network address to a next successive hop along a path between the source network address and the destination network address. Each router has a central routing processor in communication with its forwarders over a control medium to provide routing tables to each forwarder defining the next hop for forwarding received data packets for each destination address. Routing table updates of the forwarders by the central routing processor are sequentially downloaded to all forwarders simultaneously from the central routing processor, using a negative acknowledgement protocol. The central routing processor selectively responds to a negative acknowledgement message from a forwarder to re-transmit routing table updates.

Abstract: A data communications network includes a ring configured for spatial reuse, such as a resilient packet ring. A first bridge is coupled to the ring and to an end station such as an interworking bridge or router. A second bridge coupled to the ring learns an association between the first bridge and the end station by monitoring packets originated in the network by the end station and sent on the ring by the first bridge. The second bridge learns the association by obtaining an identifier of the first bridge and an address of the end station from received packets. When the second bridge receives packets destined for the end station, the packets are forwarded as broadcast transmissions on the ring if the association between the first bridge and the end station has not yet been learned, and are forwarded as unicast transmissions to the first bridge on the ring if the association between the first bridge and the end station has been learned.

Abstract: The present invention is a method and system that enables reference processes that have access to a long running object to maintain the current access to this object while this object performs a re-initialization operation in order to refresh data contained in the object. The system of the invention comprises a long running object manager that controls the re-initialization process of an object registered with the object manager. In operation, a reference program establishes a connection to the long running for purposes of accessing information in the object. This connection to the object is noted in the object manager. At this point, during the connection of the reference to the long running object, there is an event to trigger a re-initialization of the long running object. The object manager notifies the object of the trigger and holds the references that are connected to this object. The object receives the re-initialization signal, performs the re-initialization and sends a reply to the object manager.

Further, those IDE devices which are powered on at a give time, have the appropriate logic level asserted on CSEL line so that only one IDE device powered on at any time is a “Master” device, and only one IDE device powered on is a “Slave”.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and system for sharing a single GPIO line of an integrated circuit (IC) between at least two circuit components connected concurrently, wherein at least one of the circuit components is to provide input via the GPIO line and at least one circuit component is to receive output via the GPIO line. The input and output can be provided at separate times with the status of the GPIO line changing accordingly or, provided that the input is provided at a lower frequency relative to the switching frequency of the GPIO line, an input to the IC can be provided concurrent with an output from the IC since the low frequency input typically persists until an input cycle of the GPIO line. The present invention finds particular benefit when implemented to interface with GPIO lines of a microprocessor.

Abstract: A dynamic allocation of available ASV buffer memory space is performed on each pack in a DVD-A bitstream one pack at a time. Concurrently, an ASV buffer table is updated for each type of data pack currently being processed. The ASV buffer table includes pointers corresponding to the various fields that form a particular ASV frame. In this way, only that memory that is required to store a particular ASV frame is used thereby allowing the ASV buffer memory to be configured on the fly in such a manner as to efficiently store the required ASV frame data. When a particular ASV frame is to be displayed, or otherwise processed, the ASV buffer table is accessed, and the particular pointers for a specific ASV frame are looked up and used to access the desired ASV frame.

Abstract: A dual access peripheral interface uses a shared data bus (16) for communication with dual master units (30,32) coupled to a common peripheral device (34). Each master control unit provides a shared subset of control bits to a logic configuration block (48), which combines the control bits in a logic operation to present to the slave peripheral unit (34). The logic configuration block (48) is configured by configuration bits accessible by only one of the master units (30). In this way, both of the master units can access the peripheral at the same time with the logic of the logic configuration block determining the ultimate control of the peripheral.

Abstract: An inter-OS control software for switching OS's in operation executed on a single CPU is installed, and plural OS's are made alternately executed. A control program is executed exclusively on one OS, which controls the controlled apparatus. A supervisory control program and a development environment program are executed on another OS, and a memory space is divided so as to make no effect for the operation of the control program. A higher real-time performance and reliability can be established with a single CPU architecture.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for hot-docking is disclosed. In one embodiment, a portable computer system includes a bus bridge and a bus coupled to the bus bridge. The bus may have one or more peripheral devices or peripheral interfaces coupled to it. The bus may also be coupled to a docking interface having a bus switch. The bus switch, when closed and the computer is coupled to a docking station, may couple the bus to a peripheral interface in a docking station. The bus switch may close responsive to docking, thereby completing the electrical coupling of the bus to the peripheral interface in the docking station. The closing of the bus switch may be controlled by the docking interface such that operations on the bus are not interrupted during the docking procedure.

Abstract: A system and method for notifying an operating system of an error signal transmitted by a communications medium is disclosed. The communications medium connects a plurality of electronic devices. The operating system includes device drivers and is capable of configuring communications between one or more applications and the communications medium. A detector is coupled to the communications medium. The detector receives error signals transmitted by the communications medium, one or more error signals associated with one of the electronic devices. A BIOS is coupled to the detector. The BIOS is capable of determining an electronic device associated with a first error signal. The BIOS generates a hot-eject signal identifying that electronic device in response to the first error signal. The operating system blocks communications between the applications and the identified electronic device in response to the BIOS generating the hot-eject signal.

Abstract: A data storage system that has one or more IDE disk drives, each IDE disk drive connected to a USB to IDE controller, and the USB to IDE controllers are connected to one or more USB controllers. Within the data storage system (array), USB to IDE controllers are integrated into disk drive carriers. The logical interface presented to the storage array is strictly USB, and the insertion or removal of the drive carrier corresponds directly to USB device insertion/removal from the USB bus. Hubs can be used to associate up to 127 USB devices to a single USB controller, and multiple USB controllers may be utilized to increase overall system. Using the simple four wire interface of USB and the extend lengths of USB relative to IDE, a passive center plane design for the storage array is made possible by the present invention.
