  • Publication number: 20030205093
Abstract: A sheet separation and feeding system for measuring substrate bending stiffness and thereby basis weight on a real time basis. Provided is a corrugator having a plurality of parallel ribs, with one or more sheets of the substrate provided below the corrugator wherein a predetermined gap exists between a topmost sheet of the sheets and the corrugator. A vacuum is applied between the corrugator and the topmost sheet, wherein the vacuum is sufficiently large to raise the topmost sheet, thereby deflecting and bending it into a profile corresponding to the arrangement and size of the corrugator ribs and bending stiffness of the substrate. One or more sensors are provided for measuring the deflection of the topmost sheet. The vacuum, an air knife output and/or a fluffer output are then adjusted according to predetermined rules and the measured deflection.

  • Publication number: 20030205097
Abstract: A sample testing device has a buffer container that can hold buffer fluid, a filter with a securement for holding a test strip, the test strip, a test strip container having a receptacle to accommodate the filter, so that when the filter is held therein the test strip is disposed in the receptacle, and a sample collector for holding a sample. The sample collector receives the buffer container, and the sample collector has a piercing member which, when the buffer container is placed in the sample collector, pierces the buffer container. Buffer fluid in the buffer container then contacts the sample. As buffer fluid flows through the sample collector, the buffer fluid that has contacted the sample passes through the filter to the test strip.

Abstract: A wire chopper module for processing spent electrode emerging from an EDM system employs replaceable inserts that are also movable relative to the feed path of the electrode. Shifting the position of the inserts relative to the feed path of the electrode allows more than one portion of each cutting edge on the insert to be used. Each insert has more than one cutting edge and can be rotated and re-inserted to present a completely new cutting edge. Removable multi-edge inserts that are repositionable relative to the feed path of the spent electrode permit renewal of the cutting edges of the wire chopper module with increased frequency and reduced cost. The wire chopper module also incorporates a flywheel to increase the moment of inertia of the rotating cutting inserts as an aid in overcoming jams. Abstract: An apparatus includes a vessel and a radial adsorption bed within the vessel and either an axial adsorption bed for a storage tank within the inner diameter of the radial adsorption bed. In one example, the radial adsorption bed surrounds an axial adsorption bed. A process that can be conducted in the vessel includes directing a gas mixture across the radial adsorption bed, thereby causing adsorption of at least a portion of a gas component present in the gas mixture and producing partially purified product. The partially purified gas is directed through the axial adsorption bed, thereby causing further purification of the partially purified gas and producing product gas. In another example, the radial adsorption bed surrounds a storage tank. The storage tank can be employed to store a gas generated or used in a separation process conducted in the radial adsorption bed. For instance, the storage tank can be employed to store product gas or void gas generated in a vacuum/pressure swing adsorption process.

Abstract: An adsorption method is disclosed for removal of acid gas from a sulfur compound stream. The method relates to a novel process to remove acid gas from a sulfur compound stream by adsorption on an adsorption media adsorbent followed by regeneration of the adsorption media after the adsorption capacity has been reached. The adsorption media comprises an activated alumina, which has been previously treated with one or more alkali metal compounds, one or more alkaline earth metal compounds, or a mixture thereof; and then regenerating the adsorbent after the adsorption capacity has been reached.

Abstract: The present invention generally offers a system and a method that allows a vessel to treat water while providing corrosion inhibition. An oxygen stripping gas source produces oxygen stripping gas that may be pumped directly to, preferably but optional a venturi injector, or may first be pumped into an empty tank and then delivered to the injector means. Water being pumped through the injector via a transfer piping means comes into contact with the oxygen stripping gas, and dissolved oxygen in the water transfers to micro-fine stripping gas bubbles generated by the injector. The water and the micro-fine bubbles are pumped from the injector and into the tank, where the micro-fine bubbles float to the surface, and the oxygen is released into the tank's headspace. The deoxygenated water may be re-circulated through the system for additional deoxygenation or released from the tank into the surrounding waterways.
