The flocking bristles can be dispensed using a flocking dispenser. The flocking dispenser is moveable in a longitudinal direction forward and backward along the sides and tip of the applicator. During or after movement of the flocking dispenser, the applicator can be rotated around its longitudinal axis. The movement of the flocking dispenser and rotation of the applicator can be controlled to provide the desired pattern of flocking bristles. The density of distribution of the flocking bristles can be controlled by varying the speed of movement and rotation of the applicator and the amount of flocking bristles which are dispensed from the flocking dispenser. For example, a high density of flocking bristles can be applied to extend radially from the tip.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved apparatus and method for removing condensates, such as chlorides, from a dry etch, vacuum effluent stream. Dry etching of metallizations under vacuum conditions, using RF plasma and other techniques, is used in the processing of semiconductor devices and other applications. The apparatus and method remove accumulated chloride deposits that would otherwise restrict and ultimately plug the pipe that carries the vacuum effluent stream. The present invention utilizes an inner tube that is placed on the interior of the pipe and magnetically coupled to an outer tube that surrounds the exterior of the pipe. Translation of the outer tube causes translation of the inner tube, thereby removing accumulated condensate from the pipe. The apparatus may be configured so as to sense the accumulation of the condensate and automatically actuate the apparatus to remove the accumulated condensate.

Abstract: A hybrid component (30) having a cast single crystal superalloy portion (32) and an attached powder metallurgy material portion (34). The component may be a blade (30) of a gas turbine engine having a single crystal airfoil section and a powder metallurgy material root section. The powder metallurgy material may extend to form a core (36) within the airfoil section and may include cooling passages 38. The single crystal portion has a relatively simple geometry so that casting yields are optimized. The powder metallurgical portion includes the lower stressed and more complicated geometry sections of the component. A method of forming such a component includes casting the single crystal superalloy portion, then using that portion to form part of the mold for forming the powder metallurgy material portion.

Abstract: Nickel-titanium alloys that have been deep drawn in a cold working process have linear pseudoelastic behavior without a phase transformation or onset of stress-induced martensite. A medical device made from a structural element which has been deep drawn and subsequently formed into a desired medical device geometry will experience such linear pseudoelastic behavior.

Abstract: The present invention provides a line pipe of, e.g., the API standard X60 to X100 class. The line pipe has an excellent deformability, as well as excellent low temperature toughness and high productivity, a steel plate used as the material of the steel pipe. Methods for producing the steel pipe and the steel plate are also provided. In particular, a high-strength steel plate excellent in the deformability has a ferrite phase is dispersed finely, and accounts for 5% to 40% in area percentage in a low temperature transformation structure mainly composed of a bainite phase. For example, most grain sizes of the ferrite phase are smaller than the average grain size of the bainite phase. A high-strength steel pipe excellent in deformability is also provided, in which a large diameter steel pipe is produced through forming the steel plate into a pipe shape. The steel pipe has the above-referenced structure, and satisfies the conditions that YS/TS is 0.95 or less and YS×uEL is 5,000 or more.
