  • Patent number: 6655502
Abstract: A method for monitoring the thickness of at least one friction partner of a vehicle friction brake, especially the brake linings of a vehicle braking system; for each braking action, the actuating time, the applied braking pressure, the relative speed between the brake lining and the moving brake element, as well as the prevailing temperature in this region, being taken into account in a wear model in such a manner, that the wear determined by the wear model is subtracted from a starting thickness of the friction partners, in particular, the brake linings, and each wheel of the vehicle being monitored individually. A preferred polynomial formulation is specified for the wear model. In the brake lining, at least one wear stamp can also be provided, upon reaching which the current, existing brake lining thickness and/or the polynomial formulation may be appropriately corrected.

  • Patent number: 6655509
Abstract: An impact damper as a connecting member between a bumper and a chassis of a motor vehicle for the purpose of damping the shock loading during a collision between this motor vehicle and an obstacle through hydraulic damping forces and gas-spring forces. This impact damper includes an inner tube which can be displaced telescopically inside an outer tube, thereby changing the volume of a pressurized gas space, which interact by means of a separating piston with a first liquid space, which communicates hydraulically via a restriction orifice with a second liquid space, which is bounded by a deformation element. The separating piston is arranged in a floating manner in the inner tube and thereby brings about a static equilibrium by pressure compensation in the liquid spaces and in the gas space.

  • Patent number: 6655512
Abstract: A vehicle damper includes a valve having of an imperforate, deflectable variable orifice disk with an outer periphery that is only partially clamped against a valve seat, during low velocity operation of the damper, by a variable orifice support disk having an outer periphery that is not coextensive with the outer periphery of the variable orifice disk. The portion of the outer periphery of the variable orifice disk that is not clamped against the valve seat deflects away from the valve seat during low velocity operation of the damper, in response to force on the variable orifice plate generated by pressure of fluid in flow apertures closed off by the variable orifice plate, to provide a variable orifice for fluid flow through the valve and digressive performance of the damper. The valve may take the form of a compression or rebound valve on the piston of the vehicle damper, or a base valve in a dual tube damper.

  • Patent number: 6655520
Abstract: A braking drive for a control cable or shaft has a drive shaft with a radial journal. A contractible brake ring has opposing ends defining a gap, with the journal in the gap The ring has an exterior surface biased outwards and two interior detents. A stationary interior housing circumscribes the ring, with an interior surface in frictional contact with the ring. An exterior portion of the housing has bosses being disposed within the detents of the ring. Friction between the ring and the housing interior arrests rotation of the journal and drive shaft until a force on the exterior portion of the housing moves the bosses, transferring the force to the ring via the detents, whereby the ring is contracted, releasing the frictional brake between the housing and the ring, thereby allowing rotation of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 6655538
Abstract: An adjustable-length shelf system attached to a telescoping rod assembly formed by two hollow tubes, allowing this rod to house a chosen tension mechanism, so that the shelf can then be secured between two supports. The shelf system consists of the main shelf piece attached to the first hollow tube, a telescoping section of shelf not attached but slidably overlaying and fitting within the main shelf piece, and a shelf bracket attached to the end of the second hollow tube. In the closed position, with the telescoping section positioned into the main shelf piece, the rod is extended to fit in a given space between two supports. Once the rod is installed, the telescoping section is extended and secured to the bracket.

  • Patent number: 6655540
Abstract: A strap mounting space is formed around a boss formed on an upper cover and a lower cover which, when assembled together, form a case for an apparatus. One, or each, of the upper cover and the lower cover is/are formed integrally with a respective boss, preferably at each corner, so that the respective bosses at corresponding, common corners of the upper and lower covers, when assembled, are in an aligned and abutting relationship. A slits is formed in one of the corners of the upper and lower covers, extending around the respective boss(es) thereof, making up a strap mounting space. A screw 9 is inserted into a corresponding axial hole extending through each boss, affording a sufficient strength of the abutting bosses for supporting the case, with the apparatus therein, by a strap received through the strap mounting space.

Abstract: A sectioned storage container for liquids has an inner plastic container to be filled with a liquid and a plastic receptacle that surrounds the inner container so that an intermediate space is formed between the inner container and the receptacle. The inner container is made of at least two blow-molded monolithic parts connected with one another by a groove-shaped vertical recess extending in the sidewalls, the container bottom, and the top of the inner container. The receptacle has an insertion opening for the inner container so that the inner container projects with top portions thereof upwardly from the receptacle through the insertion opening. The sidewalls and the receptacle bottom of the receptacle have a groove-shaped vertical recess which is matched to the recess of the sidewalls and the container bottom of the inner container. A peripheral vertical reinforcement strap engages the vertical recesses and reinforces the storage container.

  • Patent number: 6655543
Abstract: A highly adaptable beverage container insulator is designed for a significant size range of beverage containers. The insulator is tubular with open ends that are formed from two elastic panels. Each panel has straight top and bottom edges with elastic hems. The side edges of each panel are slightly curved to maintain the properties and proper appearance of the insulator. To form the insulator, two of the panels are joined along their side edges to form a tube. The insulator is placed around a beverage container to better insulate the container and maintain the temperature of the beverage located therein. The insulator accommodates significant variation in the size and shape of beverage containers. For example, a smaller version of the insulator is readily adaptable to conform to both a standard twelve ounce soda can and to a ten ounce juice bottle.

Abstract: An improved emergency code cart (100) is provided. The cart contains a number of drawers (130), each containing medications (305, 310) and instruments (315) required for a particular code algorithm. The contents of each drawer are organized according to ACLS (American Cardiac Life Support) or other guidelines. The cart also contains a computer (175) which is programmed with ACLS algorithms or other guidelines which are the current standard of emergency patient care. The cart's computer monitors the patient's EKG, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and other indicators, providing diagnostic information to the medical personnel in the code team. Upon select of a code algorithm, the computer provides prompts according to the algorithm, issues alarms when the algorithm is not followed, provides automatic synchronized cardioversion, prints an EKG rhythm strip, and documents all activities occurring in a code, including withdrawal, replacement, and use of medication and instruments.

Abstract: A pre-formed bags dispenser comprises a container (1) having an access aperture (8), a stack (9) of pre-formed bags (10) located in the container and having a first portion (12) deviated, preferably folded, at a transverse bend (11) from a second portion (13) containing mouth ends (18) of the bags, and attachment means (20) in the container separably attached to the mouth ends (18) at lines of weakening (22), e.g. perforations. Front walls (15) of the bags at the second portion (13), tensioned by the bending of the stack, are presented towards the access aperture (8). The bag nearest to the access aperture can be drawn out through the aperture by pulling its front wall, with one hand, relative to the attachment means. As the bag is so pulled its mouth is opened and the separable attachment to the attachment means is released. The attachment means, in one form, comprises a bar block separably joined to the mouths and/or handles of the bags.
